I have only had one Mike Stacey but it couldn't have been farther away from a SW in playability. Closer to a pre dot meucci is more like it. It was whippy as hell.

All have very very similar hits and tapers to SW at a fraction of the cost.

Experience

Well, I have a friend that had a 'fancy' South West with inlays and everything, he said it was a $3,200 cue at the time. I compared my $1,100 Custom Shurtz to it, side by side. The difference in hit was minute, and could have been because of different ferrules and tips.

Both were forward balanced, there was a slight difference, and I preferred the Shurtz over the South West for balance.

That's the only experience I had comparing with a South West directly though, and not from memory. Bob Owen is the cuemaker for Shurtz, Gabe's Dad, and his waiting list now is 6-8 months. The phone number is
(316) 269-3844.

having both side by side so far I would have to say an Ed Young and SW are very similiar in terms of hit - feel and taper comfort(feel)

I play with an OMEN cue
people ask me all the time if it's a Southwest
and I'm proud to say no it's an OMEN
plays just as good as any Southwest Ive ever hit.I've heard people call it a poor mans Southwest.
I think it's a smart mans Southwest.
Looks awesome,plays even better.

I also play with an Omen. The feel, balance and hit are all superior to any SW I've ever played with and I've played with several. Mine also has a somewhat "SW style" but I wouldn't trade my Omen for any southwest.

What brand/cue maker makes the closest feeling and playing cue to a South West?
Please indicate time of wait list.
Looks don't count.

Please stop making threads. All of your's are the same, and have already been discussed. SEARCH key in between NEW and LINKS works great for these questions. Stop with these types of threads, they are pointless.

JCIN has the right idea.

But once again i must ask, PLEASE STOP MAKING THREADS. It hurts my head to read all this dumb crap.

best,

Justin

P.S. I would say you deffinately want a Cuetec. best playing cue out there. SVB uses one and it made him the best american player in the world!!!!

You know, I totally missed that. Sounded like it was an actual question.
Your participation is appreciated in this forum and this thread, but if you want to read minds you should find a mind readers forum of some type.

I don't think it was hard to read your mind, trolling for a response by asking a question to start the thread. The first post by itself would have been fine, but to reply to your question with the answer in the second post doesn't leave much for anyone to think any differently. Blast me if you wish, those two posts immediately next to each other seemed kind of schizophrenic to me!

Not taking anything away from Mr. Owen but the South West is worth at least 3-4 times what he paid. The same can not be said for the Shurtz.

But the subject was playability, so the increased value means nothing... To some.

I've played with several Omens. Not bad cues. Not the best. A great hitting South West will play better than an Omen any day. But... hit is subjective. The kind of hit and play I look for in a cue you may hate. C'est la vie.

As for looks, some Omens are downright South West knockoffs. Some are not. But... WAY cheaper than a South West. WAY less wait. So not a bad alternative.
