Help With Table Choice

Realize that a lot of people like diamonds because the deeper shelf makes it harder to make balls, thus harder to play on. If you want a harder table, you may want to choose that. Both tables are excellent tables, and you can't go wrong with if in good shape. Also, all but the newer diamonds bank short, so I imagine this one would too.

Not so sure about the new diamonds banking short. Since rkc redesigned the rails in order to "bank perfect", perhaps he can be summoned to explain. I can't comment, as I have only played on the new ones once. Yeah I know, I don't get out much..

I think that's what he said - all BUT the newer Diamonds...

I am in the upstate of SC. The guy sold the Diamond today so I guess I will keep looking. I offered him a little less for the GC. It is in consignment in his store so maybe the owner will take less.

IMHO the biggest problem with Diamond tables are not the short banking rails or the deep shelf on the pockets. Even the fact that most halls are still using Gold crowns is not a big deal. The real problem with Diamonds are...........they just don't last

long in the used market:grin:.

Good luck with your hunt!

I am so confused and need some advice. I have found a used 9' Brunswick GC and a used 9' Diamond Professional and I can get either one for about $2300 with new Simons 860 felt. I cant physically inspect the tables because they are 3 hours away but the seller does get great reviews on Kudzu. The seller says the Diamond is actually a better deal and would be priced more if it did not have a few scratches. I like the look of the GC because it is kind of retro classic but I dont want to buy a table just for looks. Which way should I go. Thank you for all of your advice.

They both play great.............with one exception. Make sure the rubber is in good condition.

I did have a bad experience with older Diamonds having dead cushions.

Diamond Table Is Sold

The Diamond table sold today so now the guy is offering me a 9' Porter table for $2500. I have done some research on the Porter tables and they seem to get good reviews. Does anyone have one or ever had one and if so were you happy with it?

Thanks

What happened to buying the Gold Crown? It sounds like your off of that but you haven't mentioned why.

Don't know anything about Porters and the lack of discussion about them on here leads me to believe you won't find many that would take one over a GC.

I believe Bob DeTurk(Pa) has reconditioned GC's. Look to a guy like him or a 1st class mechanic that reconditions, sells, delivers and installs tables. Just a thought......you'll get a complete, quality set up...no missing parts, etc.

Update

I think the guy selling the tables suggested the Diamond because it was his while the GC is on consignment. He told me the GC has a broken pocket and a few other minor issues. I found another place closer and I will go look at them in person. I would been lost without all the help from you guys

Thanks again

Do it right the first time. Sorry if I'm repeating..... be selective where it comes from and who installs it. You will have years of fun with it.
