Update: It turns out the butt is warped :( I'm bummed. Wayne at Robertson said it still plays fine. Theses are the best shots I could do. The shaft is straight as an arrow.

Seems its got a bent screw. Do I have any hopes in trying to repair it? Or should I shelf it as a display only. Its plain wood no wrap no inlays no silver or gold.

Go ahead and rip me apart because I have a beautiful red table.:rolleyes:

Oh...it can be bent back with the right tool...might not be perfect but can get real close.

Or...just have the pin replaced by a cue repair person.

Probably cost around $20-$30 to have the pin replaced.

Take it to Wayne Ball over at Robertsons in Tampa, he can fix it, he works out of Ricco's old shop and does excellent work, or call Frankie Doodle in St.Pete 727-384-2200, he can fix it also.

What's a good rate? Should I ship it to one of the repairers on here? or do it locally? I saw an earlier post on a beautiful ivory repair job. I can't recall his name though.

you should send it to robertson's. i have 2 ricco cervante cues, showing his mustache on the butt, also labeled robertson. apparently they sponsored a series of cues made by rocco c.

I called for Wayne but, he was in the shop running the Lathe, they said he runs out for a bite sometimes around lunch and makes random trips to home depot, but is in most every day, if he is not there, you can drop it off and he will call you back and let you know how much it will be.:grin-square:


if you decide to ship it for some reason, I have an excellent heavy duty shipping tube you can have.

I recall where I was going with the rates. I worded myself poorly. Is there a preference to metals brass or steel for the pin? Maybe, is there any anything else I should ask them to check? It's gotta be a 17 year old cue maybe older.

BTW, I didn't mean to come off as a jerk in regards to your rates question--I intended that to be more directed to the guy who threw out an estimate. As far as I am concerned, if someone wants to offer to do it for a price, that is cool. Just throwing out a number without offering can cause problems.

Are you certain it is a bent pin? A lot of times people think the pin is bent when all that is needed is for the joint to be refaced or even just cleaned. Any small piece of gunk in the joint when it is screwed together will make it look like a bent pin.

If my eyes are working right. It's bent. I noticed it last night and I had a couple of the guys look at it and they agreed. The worst is that the cue is no longer straight. we are pretty sure it's not the shaft.

It's the only cue we owned for years. So neither one of us is experienced at this. Our others are recent acquisitions.

I'm feeling good now. Shelving it would make me very sad.

Tom hay is in florida ,really is a first class cue repairman and cue maker.
A pm to him might be a good first step in the right direction.

Changing the pin is also a good way to change the weight distribution. Install a heavier pin to move the weight balance forward and a lighter one (aluminum or G-10) to move it back. Keep the same thread as the shaft though, lol. Many good references here for repair folks. I always use Proficient for any restoration stuff. Good luck!
