Coach Lee Brett • A perfect example of

Sean, you just don't get it. :grin:The "artists" who create these new methods of expression are simply "helping" those who didn't "get it" from other inspired works of art.

You aren't stepping aside and letting the new methods of expression pass you by. You are mainstream and you are wringing your hands with anticipation for the next great pool instructional video to come along. :winknudge: Glad that a very good player like yourself found value in Coach Lee Brett's video.

LOL!!

Thank you, I really needed that dose of levity this morning.

I purchase products based on 1.) need (if I don't truly need it, I don't buy it); 2.) analyzed value (I look beyond the flashy/revamped lingo, read the fine print, then take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

In Lee's case, item 2 addressed item 1 indirectly. Wanting to always help our pool brethren (like Lee), this was a case of the ends justifying the means. And I'm happy with my purchase!

Sean:
I certainly don't attribute Lee's lingo to be malicious/exploitive marketing as I've described or as Pat suspects.
I didn't say anything like that. I was just pointing out some of Joey's product-promotion hyperbole.

So.............. have you seen Coach Lee Brett's video in its entirety.
No need to yell, Joey - I'm not a product you're promoting.

I've seen enough of Lee's video to see that he might have some unique and useful ways of approaching the game. But your example of follow through - probably the most common advice given by everybody in the game - just isn't one of them.

Patrick Johnson endorses Coach Lee Brett's pool instructional video.

Sometimes, you just don't like to answer certain questions. I thought you might be hard of hearing.

So, while you haven't watch all of Coach Lee Brett's video, you find that he has some unique and useful ways of approaching the game, and you already knew what he was talking about as it relates to the shot Earl missed.

It is just as I mentioned previously, even professional players don't always do the simplest things and when they don't, they pay the price just like all of us.

Joey:

Actually, Pat has a point. All too often (but not necessarily in Lee's case), marketing folks "trying to invent a new mousetrap" will invent new lingo to describe something that already has well-founded and understood terms to describe it. But people will "bite" on the new lingo, thinking the item/issue it describes as something newly-discovered / newly-tagged. It's the same ol' marketing exploitation all over again. As a sales guy yourself, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about.

In Lee's case, however, it's more a case of different lingo used by Brits vs. Americans. I certainly don't attribute Lee's lingo to be malicious/exploitive marketing as I've described or as Pat suspects. In the UK, they say "getting through the ball." Here, we say simply, "follow-through."

And, Lee's DVD is excellent! I have it, and I'm still going through it as I have the time. He does use different lingo, but I'm familiar with that lingo, being an ex-Navy man that'd spent some time in the UK and their "colonies." ;)

As for what I see Earl doing wrong in that match (I watched the whole match, btw, not just the missed 10-ball), he did two things wrong: 1) he didn't step correctly into/into the shot line, and tried to adjust later; 2.) exaggerated elbow drop -- it's one thing to utilize elbow drop; it's quite another when you don't stroke the ball properly and kinda just "drop your arm into the ball." If you watch Earl's stroke carefully in that one, you'll see point #2 in all its glory. He just kind of lazily dropped his arm into the ball, instead of actually stroking it. I don't think the cue tip went more than an inch into the space formerly occupied by the cue ball.

yes, in England, we say getting through the ball, follow through means something completely different.
Follw through is when you think you only farted, but you didnt, you followed through.

Some questions just aren't worth the time.

I said it looks like he might.

and you already knew what he was talking about as it relates to the shot Earl missed.
I guessed easily enough. And as I said, it's not "incredible information that is seldom shared in a video format".

Maybe you just chose a poor example. But it's a good example of your tendency to promote products and vendors rather than objectively review them.

So true, no moments are ordinary, Earl proved that pros have to approach the table like a pro ALL the time or they will look like an amaturer in a second.

I thought Lee's video was awesome and I've adopted his way of thinking to my game and it has helped out for sure. The concept of "out of the box" thinking and "in the box" execution has simplified the game for me and helped me do what I know how to do without letting other thoughts get in the way when it comes time to pocket balls.

Even seemingly simple aiming adjustments should not be done at the table for me; I now step back away from the table and approach it if I need to change my aim and the balls are going into the pockets more consistently.

Lee's video is money well spent.

Hi Joey,

Yes its me, your favorite nightmare, SJD (typo on my user name, and I can't get it corrected..I see you have found another clever way to get your "aiming dissertations" (AKA sales hype) on the main forum..Not nice to fool Mr. Howerton..:nanner:

Just wondering if you caught Schmidt and Duell's TAR match..They spent a good 10 minutes (both of them) "bashing" aiming systems (all forms)_So its not just us 'old guys' who feel that way..:boring2:

Hang in there though, you'll find your pool 'nirvana' yet. (maybe)

PS..Has Barton given up ?? :woot:

You know, it is all going to be suddenly unfair when I ban someone for a long, long time for just being petty.

First, language. Come on guys, you know we have kids around...not that they care to wade into an aiming civil war..but watch it all the same.

Ad Hominem.

Really??, look it up.
Poolsharkallen...really?

Learn it.

You'd rather talk about grammar than principal?

One day soon I am going to react ( probably over react ) and send someone packing and then I'll be the bad guy here.

Knock the crap off!

Yes, not only is money on Lee's video well spent but as you said the "thinking outside of the box/inside the box" in Coach Lee Brett
s video has not been mentioned in any video that I have seen.

THERE ARE MANY THINGS IN COACH LEE'S VIDEO THAT HAS NOT BEEN SHOWN OR DISCUSSED IN OTHER POOL INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEOS, contrary to what Patrick Johnson is trying to insinuate.

MahnaMahna <----- hoping Joey doesn't start "promoting" a loocal instructor who I want to take future lessons from, as his typical BS will ruin it for me.

good post Joey

I actually understand that each of us has a basic need to have our few minutes in the sun. The sun is there for all of us.

Unfortunately, there are a few people on AZBilliards who choose to stalk posters and needle them just so as they can get a rise out of them. When that is your only contribution to the forum, it sadly becomes apparent even to the moderators who can't and don't keep up with the hundreds and thousands of posters who pass through this forum.

Poolshark Allen is one of those, unfortunately. I truly wish I could say otherwise.

I enjoyed all the post about what Earl did to miss .It's true there has to be a method to your madness . In practice these things have to be done so many times that they become natural during play.If anyone out there is like me and starts thinking about em to much during a match .....Uh Oh .

Now about that sun factor .You know my mom has a saying "the sun don't shine on the same dogs A** all day long , the earth moves ":rotflmao:

Joey may take a while responding to me as I am not a top shelf player these days.Just a banger with alot of knowledge.....It's ok Joey ,your still like my long lost kin or uncle figure .I'm about a week away from being fully suited into my new career .It's looking like I may have some time to play a little pool
as well as work .Thanks for all the good stuff you pass on and starting a few good threads after Tunica .:canoodle:

Is the moral to your mom's saying, "Keep your a** moving"?

You and Pool Shark Allen are two peas from the same pod.

LOL @ MomMa.

Come on, tell the truth. You're not going to take lessons from any pool instructor are you? Come on now, tell the truth. :killingme:

I see you're still chasing me around the forum. That's all the sun you get for now. :thumbup2:

Look, this thread is about learning what mistakes you shouldn't make when playing pool.

Get back on track and let us know what you want to learn. Maybe one of the forum members can give you a hand and you won't have to spend the big bucks for pool lessons from one of your loocals.
