Newer trends vs. "old school"

It's not just pool. It's everywhere. People have no manners or respect for others.

One example:

I see someone in a parking lot trying to walk across traffic. I stop and wave them across. They intentionally walk as slow as possible and never acknowledge me. It would never even occur to me to act like that.

Lack of class in pool is the symptom, not the disease. It's part of society. Entitlement mentality, I suppose...

The nail has just been hit on the head!

That only happened because he didn't show him ReSpEcT. He clearly had his hoodie up before he crossed the street, which means, obviously, he gotz the juice.

Yo.

Fo drizzle.

Excuse me, my kidneys are hurting, I need to pee. That reminds me very little of this fella I met back before the dinosaurs ...zzzzz...

Us younger guys don't complain when you oldies run to the rest room to p!ss every 5 minutes, because your bladder is to thin to hold liquid any longer than that @ your fragile age..

I will bet all of my vcash against yours that at age 59, I can hold my pee longer than you can .

My urinary tract belongs in the Smithsonian !!!

Maniac (often goes beyond 10 hours)

I got the JUICE now PlAyEr !!!

Just get yourself a catheter ,and a fecal bag ,, that way you can continue to spend every bit of your time trolling this topic..

Dont be mad at me , you're the one who said it, "38 outta shape, fat ,balding, and still don't know how to drink out of a big boy cup.."
You sound like the perfect candidate for a nursing home.. Let me guess your still a virgin ,and your mom still feeds you ,,and wipes your manhole when you make a boo boo as well ??

I don't text at the table, or wear headphones for that matter, but if I needed to text or take a call, I'd make you wait,, there wouldn't be nothing you could do, but wait until I was done with my call or text anyway, If you was to run your mouth about it , Id set you straight by any means necessary ..

A emergency on your part doesn't constitute as one on my behalf.

PS, I can hold my own in life ,as well as at the table,, there isn't nothing I'd tell you in this forum ,that I wouldn't tell you to your face.. I'm fully willing to back my words up on any ground.. Regardless of your creed, size or reputation,, I will hold my own !!!

Your complaining about frivolous peeves , makes you look as if you're no more than a relic whose time has past him by.. Is it that your jealous of those whose prime is at hand, when yours has diminished ?!?!

You get respect if you earn it !!!!!

You don't get it off me, just cause you're older in age, you must prove you're worth respecting ,before I'll treat you with respect..

That respect your elders doesn't mean jack to me,, especially when alot of the older guys I came across are narrow minded ,and think they know it all, until they're proven wrong.. Then they get all flustered, and there lips seal shut when they're face to face with adversity..

When its a forum setting there mouths run a million miles per minute, in reality ,not all, but a big amount of them are chumps..

It boils down to this...........

If you give me respect ,I'll give respect in return,, if you don't ,then you'll get what you get...

Play your game, and that's it,, dont worry about someone texting, or wearing headphones, its not your place to care ..

Us younger guys don't complain when you oldies run to the rest room to p!ss every 5 minutes, because your bladder is to thin to hold liquid any longer than that @ your fragile age..

Let ppl live how they want,, if it isn't directly effecting you, then you shouldn't care..

If the music to loud ,get earplugs.. If your opponent chalks while your approaching the table,if it aint your chalk, then let them chalk..

Its 2012, not 1950 ,,your hay days have pass, so now you complain how the worlds changed, cause you cant do anything at your age but complain..

Like it or not ,that's the way of the world old timer,, and you can cry about it until you're blue in the face,, that still wont change the New world,, we are your future ,love it ,or hate it..

 :yikes: :wave3: :yeah: :ok: :joyful: :clapping:  :poke:

Talk about chumps.........

^^:rolleyes:I hold my own, unlike most of the ones complaining ,who couldn't hold their urine with a swimming pool liner..

Actually, it kinda reminds me of the "Bed Intruder" song -- but the original:

(Oh, heck, why not just songify it?

Too bad I don't have AutoTune -- anyone out there have AutoTune to songify the "Skillz-e-lite" song?

And this perfectly illustrates why pool will never be a major sport...

59+

I am turning 60 this fall. The new lack of courtesy that bothers me most is players' feeling that they can grab my cue without my permission. This has now happened three times with my Szamboti. The first two times, I kept hold of the cue and didn't give it up. Once I keep hold and don't give it up, I need to take it home because they know something is up. Last week, someone grabbed it while I was not holding it. Fortunately, no damage.

You don't touch someone else's cue without permission! Mine is a simple looking cue. But lately, I cannot take it anywhere.

takes me back...

I agree, Maniac. The times they are a changin'.
Why, just last week I was attempting a very delicate three-railer, when a fat woman walked by and farted whilst I was in mid-stroke.
Not only did the sound startle the hell out of me, but the smell made my knees buckle. Needless to say, I missed the shot and lost the game as a result.
But seriously. Playing with someone who is constantly on their cell phone, either talking or texting, really annoys the hell out of me. In my day, if you wanted to talk on the phone, you ponied up a dime and used the payphone up by the soda pop machine. If you were gone too long, someone at the table would yell out something like. "Get off the phone fer crissakes, you'll see her tonight!"

Man, I wish I had an ice cold Pepsi, in a 16 ounce bottle, with a bag of Planters peanuts poured down the neck. Pure heaven.

Wow! That statement takes me back about 45 years to my old snooker hall. Me and my buddy started doing that (I can't remember why and no one else did it) and I haven't thought about it or done it since then. I think it cost us a total of 25 cents for the pop and peanuts.

We survived match-fixing in Vegas, we can make it past teenage angst.

You don't understand Greg ... I mean you might have bought it, but the children are "entitled" to have whatever they want

---

Now then, back on the tracks ... cellphones are just part part of life now. Understanding when and where to use them is a difference matter.

I'm not old enough to remember the 'old days', but I do recall different places I've played. Justin touched on it last night in his Podcast. I'll phrase it a slightly different way though; when I lived in Europe they had cellphones and texting years before we had heard of it. 8 year olds on the train had their mobiles out, it was just common place. But they understood when and where to use them.

In the Riley's I played at it was the same way. The snooker room was almost completely sound proof, with no music of any kind. On the "American Pool" side, they had the music turned up a little, but there were no fights, no tough talking, just pool. No sharking, no whining, just people playing the game.

I miss that.

I shark easily

Last week, at our APA match, I played poorly and was played poorly. I like to think my poor playing is solely under my control. That is 90 per cent the case. My opponent turned his back to the table to went to the bar, or to the bathroom, or to visit others on the other side of the room (out of sight of the table). He did it every enning. I racked balls in a big money pool hall when I was a kid. I am 63. Most pool sharks didn't "shark" their fish. They just hooked them and gutted them. In the end, the fist wanted to buy the hustler a beer. Even in such an place, there was a measure of courtesy and (sort of) a mutual respect.

The kind of gamesmanship played on men last Thursday would have gotten your ass kicked. I lost at eight ball 5/2 but won at nine against the same player. He played few sharks because I confronted him in front of everyone. At my age, it is no fun the beat me up - though he could have if he wanted to.

Everyone gets to be young and stupid

At 68 I guess I would be an old timer and I like it. Probably the best time of my life for relaxation and just kicking back and enjoying life. Rude people are boring so I simply don’t play with them or even talk to them. At my age I have learned a few things in life that can be useful to others.

I think the jerks in life do not realize that there is a lot they can learn from some of the older polite guys and the rude people are the losers. Several times a week I simply walk away, shut up or ignore the often young and stupid player.

He usually doesn’t realize that I am laughing at his stupidity, arrogance, and generally rude behavior. The last thing he is going to get is a game with me. It is a shame, he misses the fun we have, the shared times the rest of us have and the simple joy of playing the dozens yet having respect for each other.

The young and stupid miss a lot in life and that is as it should be.

One our local "legends in his own mind" asked for a game of one-pocket last night figuring it would be easy as he could hit any ball he wanted to. He did the same thing, wandered away whenever it was my shot, used his phone incessantly, waved things around in front of me in the rare occasion he was around. He lost 3-0.

On the other side of the fence one of our railbirds, who's a little above your age range often shows the rest of us how the game is meant to be played. An old time billiard player, he rarely if ever misses. None of the kids ever want to play him; he doesn't shark or get sharked, he just drops them in the holes with a little grin.

I was also once full of piss & vinegar too. You grow out of that and grow into pool. Then you reply to threads like these.
