Congrats to John Schmidt 14.1 Champion

John didn't just take down the World 14.1 title, but he beat Efren to do it, and he came through a super tough field of players. Congrats!

Way to go John!

This accomplishment in 14.1 by John FAR outweighs anything his haters on here have done or will ever do.

John Schmidt wins 7th Annual Dragon promotions Straight pool tournament!
John Schmidt beats Efren Reyes 200 - 169 in finals to win.

...

Great accomplishment for Efren to come second in a niche game he never plays

Efren NEVER plays Straight Pool! And at age 57 travels half way round the world to compete against the best on the planet. He only finishes second in a close match. The man is unbelievable! :thumbup2:

I am not a big 14.1 fan. That may have changed after watching this.

At one point, I thought John was going to run out the match on a single turn.

Then, I thought Efren was going to do the same(getting his first 100 ball run?).

Two different styles, or so it appeared to me as an uneducated observer, but equally effective.

This was a real treat-thanks to all.

Congratulations to John. Well done and congratulations to Efren on such an amazing performance in a game that is not his specialty.

Great job John. That was a tough field of players to get through. You deserve the win.

Agreed. Now certain "haters" can't throw it from the hip at John that "he is just a practice hero" and has no 14.1 titles. This is a long time coming, and I'm glad that he took it down.

Congrats John!

Jay, remember that the only two 14.1 championships that Efren ever competed in prior to this Predator championship, was the 1995 Maine Event and the 2000 14.1 US Open -- which he won, and placed third, respectively.

It's not a question of whether Efren plays straight pool often or not, but how *thoroughly skilled* a cueman he is. It doesn't matter the game, Efren can play it, and play it well.

Efren's my all-time favorite player. I was sad to see him match up against John, because one of them was going to lose, and I was split down the middle as to who I wanted to see win.

Congrats John and Efren for giving us a match to remember!

He did a great job. Would've liked to have seen Efren get more than a half hour break between beating Appelton and playing John. But John played a great match no doubt.

Congratulations John. Glad to here you one. I like you style. We need more people like you in pool.

2 weeks before the Maine event was the first time Efren even tried 14.1.

I think it is the perfect game for him now. He can manage the balls to have no long shots 99% of the time and will soon learn to outsafe anyone.

So you're saying we have to wait at least 8 more years for him to play 14.1 again (since he only plays once each decade)?
