FS Vintage Tad Kohara

Just posted this cue up here for you lol. Seen it on Craigslist and posted a link to your add. VERY nice old TAD! GL with the sale :thumbup2:

Thanks cuefan,

I've just had modest interest in the cue here but curiously over 3000 views so the cue will probably end up on eBay at some point.

roy are you sure that is ivory! it is very rare for them to have ivory! if you can confirm it as ivory i will wire the money and pay shipping and insurance. and is this the same one on craigslist?

i believe that is yellow micharta, wich was commonly used back then!

Bill

I believe the seller truly believes its ivory.

Whether the substance on the butt of that cue is ivory or not is an entirely different matter.

I believe it's ivory but what I'll do is make a trip over to Tad's and verify it.

I'm the original owner and I purchased this cue close to 40 years ago so it's possible my memory might be wrong.

Now there is a good idea. I guarantee you if maybe 25 of the 3000 looks were made by guys that believed what you had was ivory, it would be gone.

Thanks

Kevin

When the cue was new it wasn't yellow.

It has yellowed over the years.

That yellowing is more a property of Micarta than it is of Ivory, especially as yellow as yours is. Sure would be great if it were Ivory though, can't wait to find out!

You're right but true ivory does yellow with age also as do some plastics.

So I guess we'll see if my memory is full of it or not. lol

Since the question of whether the cue is ivory or not has come up I've been doing some research on the net on how to tell real ivory and some sources say the older the ivory the darker it gets with age but some plastics do the same thing.

Monday I'll give Tad or Fred a call and go over there find out for sure.

I'm going to be embarrassed if it isn't ivory. lol

And you'll have a gem on your hands if it is Ivory.

Kevin, even though it's been close to 40 years since I bought this cue I'm very confident that it's ivory, I don't think that Tad even used micarta inlay in his cues in the late 60's and early 70's but I could be wrong.

I'll say this, I'm 99% sure of what I have but there is always the possibility that I might remember it wrong.

At any rate, I'll make a trip to Tad's on Mon.

If they say it is Ivory and will verify, I think you'll see your selling experience drastically changed.

Keep me in the loop.

Thanks

Kevin, I think those 25 may have made a big mistake.

You've essentially been asking guys to gamble on the fact that it's Ivory and that hasn't resulted in a sale for you. You can keep waiting for someone to step to the plate or you can change the game.

I'm well aware of your beliefs. I don't doubt for a moment that you believe it to be Ivory. That wasn't enough to get me to hop up, and I wasn't alone.

Get it verified by Tad as Ivory and I think you will see quite a change in the interest in your cue.
