I attended the 'Make it happen' 8 ball event at Sandcastle Billiards last Thursday thru Sunday. I watched all 16 matches, and I just wanted to tell everyone about the event.
For those of you who do not know how this worked I will inform you. Pat Flemming of Acu-stats and Ed Lidawi the owner of Sandcastle put together a round robin tournament involving 6 top pros. Anyone who paid up front for the vip package got a chance to vote on the 6 players invited. A list of about 20 names were available. The players were Alex P, Johnny A, Efen R, Darren A, SVB, and Corey D.
They played on a 10 x 5, race to 8 each match. Each player received a $1000 for each win. The loser received nothing. There was no entry fee. I think the hotel cost was also covered. So, there was little cost to players.
All matches were played in the accu states arena. This is made it possible to see each match. You did not have to decide which match to watch.
The matches were great to watch. Corey's kick shot on the 8 ball against Efren was the shot of the match. If you get the dvds look for this shot.
That one thing that stands out for this tournament was the ability to listen to the commentators in the booth with headsets. You needed a little box that was provided. Danny D and Bill I did most of the matches. They were great. Soooo entertaining. They are knowledgeable and funny. This little addition made it so much more interesting to watch than just sitting in silence.
