Gene Albrecht

Banks,

I'm being respectful to you because I see nothing disrespectful about your post.

And since most of your posts are reasonable, let me ask you a question, what difference does it make to anyone, you included, whether or not someone gives a "plug" to anyone else? Why should it matter to anyone?

I'm going to be who I am and I'm going to do what I do until the management tells me otherwise.

I believe that it is far better to promote the sport of pool in every aspect than it is to run around the forum, calling fellow posters names, making mean-spirited comments, arguing about which aiming system people should be using or trying to tell someone that they are just dumb for listening to certain recommendations, constantly making negative comments about things that don't interest me or that aren't to my way of thinking or constantly whining about a forum member's style of posting.

If anyone has a problem with my style of posting they should just put me on ignore. Isn't that the best way of dealing with something that you detest? I'm not going to change. It's who I am. No one is going to change me. I'm going to be polite, courteous, respectful and friendly to everyone until they show me that they don't deserve to be treated that way. I'm going to keep sharing my knowledge with others no matter what anyone says. If I choose to write about Gene's measuring system as a part of the accolades THAT I CHOOSE TO BESTOW on him, that is my right and I'll continue doing it as I please, unless the management asks me not to. Then I'll either discontinue doing it or just leave the forum.

For me, when I don't like a poster's writing style I simply ignore them without putting them on ignore. The only time I respond to their negativity is when they try to needle my ox or me, otherwise, I just don't read their posts.

I realize my post is rather long and I apologize to Gene for having the thread go in the direction it has. It was his day in the sun. 3rd place in a field of talent like this is something to be proud of. And his measuring system for cutting balls REALLY is remarkable.

Joey, I appreciate the respect and I regret that I've said some things in the past that I probably should not have.

It isn't always that it 'matters' to people what others say, but the message that it appears to be delivering. When people think that there is an ulterior motive behind what is being said, they tend to respond differently. I understand what you do for living and that it is often a gray area in which one's business sense mixes with their general views. Some may come to believe that there is always an ulterior motive for somebody's posts based on patterns.

Gene has been doing great lately and sounds like he's having a ball. He's got a passion for pool and people and he's doing quite well with both. I hope he keeps it going. Heck, you haven't exactly been a slouch lately either.

Believe it or not, I came away with some good information from both sides during the main forum, ahem, 'debates'. For that, I must thank both sides.

Agree, imo this sort of post can do nothing but make the forum shittier and stir the pot. If someone has a disagreement with either aiming systems or gene's plugs, they take it up in those specific threads. There's a report thread button, a red rep button, and you can always PM MrWilson.

In the meantime, injecting venom into a harmless complimentary thread will not improve anything for anyone.

CreeDo,

I can't argue with you - you're right. I probably shouldn't have hit send on that one but I can't take it back now and an apology would be empty since I meant what I wrote. So what can I say?

The OP wasn't even raving about how well Gene played in this past weekend's tournament (which he did by the way). I would have never jumped into the middle of a congratulatory thread and posted what I did. The wording of the OP mentioned that Gene played tired, not well.

I think Joey pretty much admitted that this was just another plug for Gene's system in his subsequent posts, and I've just grown tired of them. It's easy to say just ignore him if I don't like what he has to say but therein lies the problem - I do like reading Joey's posts when they aren't simply unpaid advertisements. So, I'll just go back to reading his posts and rolling my eyes to myself and keeping my mouth shut. Which is what I should have done in the first place.

Lastly, I do feel like this place is dying a slow death. But unlike most of the people on here that are constantly complaining about the non stop "hating" and trolling, I feel like the reason this place is going to die is because of the lack of debate. What brought me to this site in the first place was the very healthy level of back and forth that went on. Now it seems, anytime anybody disagrees about anything all the sensitive types get all bent out of shape. I guess I'm just not like that.

Probably should have quit after the first paragraph.

Well BD, that's a pretty reasonable reply. And on some things we agree. For example I like Joey's posts but not his ads. I think he does them because he likes the idea of helping out the guys he's met, doing what he can to promote their projects (and indirectly, pool in general).

But who knows, I don't live in his head, I could be off-base.

As for healthy debate, I guess it depends on how you define healthy. For some, any debate is healthy debate. I certainly don't want to see the forum become sterile and censored.

But I've been part of those 20+ page CTE threads and I've come to the conclusion that certain topics simply cannot be discussed rationally on AZB. It always degenerates into a shouting match and leads to bans. I've actually been pissed for hours after walking away from the keyboard after interacting with guys like JB.

I don't think these threads help AZB, they create a hostile atmosphere. They literally make people quit the site for months (voluntarily or not). So what I've figured out is that the sensible policy is what you might call the eyeroll response.

I guess it's understandable if you can't help but reply sometimes. I tell myself I won't argue politics or religion but I get sucked in anyway.

The forum's been here for over ten years and is still the main place to go, I don't think the bleeding hearts are in any danger of taking it down :)

I often wonder what the hell is wrong with YOU people. Why wouldn't you comment if Basement Dweller's comment was out of place?
As I said, I don't know if it was out of place or not - that wasn't what I was posting about.

The forum is suffering from people just like you.
In other words, the forum "suffers" from whoever dares to suggest that you might be criticized.

It's none of your business what I say or when I say it. You are sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong. If you don't like my posts, put me on ignore or report my posts to the management.
Calm down. I think all the BIG BLUE SHOUTING (another thing you're known for) demonstrates that you think you're special here and shouldn't be subjected to criticism by "common posters".

If I was a professional player, I certainly wouldn't waste my time in these forums, getting heckled by these haters.

Thanks for voicing your opinion. I'm afraid that it will take more than just opinions to shut the hecklers up.
Joey, you know I like a lot of your posts, even the infomercials....
...and I like how Machino handles himself on here.

But I don't think a lot of the professional players take care of their game
very well. If they need to be nursed and mollycoddled to post on here,
well, then they might be good players but they probably aren't very good
posters.
This forum is for people who can stand up for themselves....
...I gotta feeling you won't see CJ go on tilt...or go away 'cause he
couldn't handle it.

I say let 'em roll up their sleeves and get down in the mud once in awhile.
If a top player will only post on here under the condition that everybody agrees with him....
....I say "Who needs him?"

just my opinion....pt

Gene is an older gentleman and a few years ago he fell and destroyed one of his shoulders. No matter Gene plays lights out and could crush 95 percent of the members of this forum. If you doubt me go play him. It just so happens that Gene has some informative instructional material that has helped many players. Gene also doesn't mind getting on the phone with a stranger to try to help them with their game FOR FREE.

I don't mind plugging Gene and his system and his quality as a man. I wish there were more men like him not only on the forum, but in the world.

The signature blue, bold fonts are mine, that's for sure, but it doesn't make me special and I don't think I am special. The blue fonts are just my way of emphasizing things that should be "highlighted".

Your arrogant, mean-spirited replies are signatures of yours as well. I guess we all have a cross to bear.

Gene handles himself quite well but if it had been left up to the haters, he would be long gone. Most top players don't have Gene's staying power.

CJ won't put up with the heckling and the mean-spirited comments either and he nor ANYONE ELSE should have to put up with it.

You can read whatever you want into my posts as I don't care what you read into them. Roll your eyes and suck it up because I'm not going to change and I'm going to keep calling out the haters until they stop hating. The tag-team hating has become a regular staple for some on this forum and it gets old after a while. Maybe that's why some people get testy when they are harassed.

Treating people with respect should be a given in forums of this type. To me this forum is mostly about having fun and learning a little about how other people perceive the world of pool.

Your idea of a healthy debate differs greatly from my idea of one.

Hey JoeyA, keep posting, you add a lot to the forum.

I like Gene's posts a lot too. He's out shooting pool every day; at a pretty sporty level too. I want to hear what he says, might be some good stuff!

Gene is in town this week. New Orleans to be exact. He gave a PERFECT AIM lesson which he allowed me to attend and I have to say, he gets better each time I witness his lessons.

A smart person wouldn't dip a toe here but I guess I'm not very smart so here goes...
For starters, I like Gene. I've spoken with him on the phone and he seems like a great guy.
Now, I don't think it's fair to call so many "haters" on this forum. Disagreeing with someone or voicing a difference of opinion isn't hating. I laughed at the post that started the mess -it was funny. Joey seems like a good guy and from what I gather shoots pretty sporty too. I'm not about to put any of the above posters on ignore because everyone posts something that makes me laugh, or think, or even respond in support or opposition.
We should all know by now that the internet is not for people with ultra thin skin. By posting in a public forum you should be prepared for anything. Please don't escalate things to shouting with font changes. I pretty much agree with every poster here except the hater comments. I argue on here on occasion but certainly don't hate other posters.
Just had to throw my two cents in... my apologies.
Carry on...

Green for you sir........

I wonder how many people on this forum (everyone) knows how difficult it is to simply pay your expenses while "on the road". It is a difficult road to travel. It is an impossible road for most.

Gene has a reservoir of knowledge to share. Unlike most road players, he is willing to share that knowledge for pennies on the dollar of what it cost him to learn. I'm not going to go into his health issues are anything else. I'm just going to say that Gene is GREAT for this forum and GREAT for your town if he is passing through.

There aren't many like him anywhere. If anyone doesn't like my posts, PLEASE put me on ignore. I won't mind. Because I'm not going to change. Sorry but that's the way it is.

And if any of you guys who aren't married and you have a spare room to share, you might consider offering Gene a place to stay. You will be the richer for it. If that goes bad, I'm on the hook and will take the heat for it.(but it won't). :D

I posted this story last month, but I think it needs to be understood by more folks here who want to see pool grow....

When Gene was in town at Big Dog's, I watched him give lessons to some Persons. One was a young woman who was struggling to make balls. After a few instructions, he set up the old long shot where the cue ball is on one end near a pocket and the object ball was just past the middle of the table to be made in the far corner pocket, a straight-in shot. She nailed it about 4 or 5 times. BAM split the pocket each time.

You should have seen the look on her face, the smile, the realization that she COULD really start playing good pool now. It was an epiphany.

THAT is how pool will grow, if it ever does, not through some con man fooling everybody in instant success.

And as to some folks not liking the constant selling jobs: tough! If there's one thing missing in the pool world, it is good marketing systems. Maybe this isn't the best way to do it, but at least it is something!

Nothing wrong with marketing stuff... just that, generally speaking, this is the inappropriate AZ forum to be doing that. Last time I checked, if you've got something "for sale" there's a specific forum for dat. :-)

I'm celebrating the journey of one of the best pool players that has ever graced our forum. It just so happens that he has a product to sell.
You of all people, I would think would attempt to celebrate with all of us and appreciate how lucky we are to have someone like Gene Albrecht that posts on our forums. It's sad that you and a few other haters think that players of Gene's caliber and character should be stuck off in the corner of some for sale forum.

It's no wonder that the pro players don't want to post on AZ Billiards.

It's a wonder that Gene is still tolerating this bigotry that pops up on the main forum from time to time.

I had some fun last night, watching the poolactiontv.com livestream out of Tallahassee Florida at Zingales pool room.

It's kind of funny, how you can see all of the bad things that others are doing, while you're sitting at home, eating chips and cheese.

Gene was playing Jesse Engle in the semi-finals and it was clear that the two of them were tired as they could be. These multi-day tournaments can take the steam out of your game.

In Mobile, AL I remember Gene teaching one of his students his signature measuring system for calculating the cut angle on an object ball and in the Tallahassee tournament, Gene used that measuring technique in the match with Jesse on three different occasions and made all three, difficult cut shots.

Hopefully, I'll get a chance to see Jesse and Gene again in the near future. They don't normally get this far South. Hope they both come by Buffalo Billiards in Metairie, LA .

Thanks for the plug JoeyA. :D
