Curly Redwood and?

I'm going to have a PJ cue set made using some very nice curly redwood that I received from Meridianblades. My question is what species of wood will compliment the redwood?
I've been leaning towards a nice quilted maple but would appreciate some suggestions.
 
Padauk! I can post some pictures of redwood burl and padauk, if you want. Even have a few pieces of very old padauk for sale!

I bought 13F. It will be handle wood. The forearm and buttsleve will be ebony but accented with 13F. It will be the first RT made in years with 2 others in the works.:smile:

I'd stay away from the quilted maple. The two figured woods will fight for attention, not compliment each other.

It is like wearing a striped tie with a striped shirt. It won't work out well.

Pair a pattern with a solid. Ebony would look great, Tulipwood might work. Straight grain bubinga or rosewood would probably do well.

I've decided on a black, BLACK ebony. I was really leaning towards quilted maple or curly maple but with what I have in mind for ringwork I feel ebony will really help to bring out the beauty of the redwood.

Thanks to all who posted here including Larry for the pictures of the wood, and those who pm'ed with suggestions!

Gonna be a hell of a nice 3 cue set Djay :smile:

Shooting cue is going to be a PJ with Redwood buttsleeve and forearm, 2 OB Classic Pro shafts with Kamui Black tips and a black elephant ear wrap. The buttcap and joint collars will be black.....maybe water buffalo horn. It will also have a screw on ebony extension.

Break cue with an ebony buttsleeve and forearm and a redwood handle, 2 purpleheart shafts stained black with black canvas phenolic ferrules and Odega tips. There will also be a Limbsaver installed.

Jump cue with a black stained maple 2 piece handle and 2 purpleheart shafts stained black with a black G-10 tip/ferrule combo.

All cues will have redwood and ebony trim rings and black G-10 joint pins.

Well I changed things up a bit. The wrap on the shooter will be black Ringtail Lizard. The buttcap and joint collars on the shooter will indeed be black Water Buffalo horn.

The break cue will be as described with a Curly Redwood buttcap and joint.

Ebony is a great choice. I'm working on a redwood burl and ebony right now :)
