The horrible APA

Remember on az billiards you can never say anything bad about a league or cue maker or your either a winer or full of shit. I don't care if either one shits on your head and asks if you like your new hat you have to smile and say how great it is or you'll be ran off the board! God forbid anyone have an opinion

Gee, somehow you visit a different AZB than I do....the version that I frequent, anything related to the APA is always how awful it is. How its terrible pool, how all the LO's are corrupt or incompetent, the players are all drunks and everyone sandbags.....

Yet somehow it continues to be the most successful thing in pool here in the US. Every year, more people play APA than anything else. If it were possibly so horrible, how could that continue, year after year, with all the doom and gloom here on AZB?

This makes about as much sense as me posting something like, "I was gonna post a reply but decided not to..."

I always enjoy reading these APA posts. Whether they are anti or pro APA they are always amusing.

I hate the APA

I hate Vegas

The tables are bad

Valley tables suck

There are too many sandbaggers

The same team always wins

The same team always goes to Vegas

They allow smoking

They don't allow smoking

There are beer drinkers

They don't serve beer

We play too late

There are too many fat girls

There are too many skinny girls

The girl with the big tits never racks at my table

They are all bar bangers

I like the BCA better

I like TAP better

The 23 rule is bad... we can't load our team

What is this ball in hand crap

APA 9 ball sucks

I lost to a lower skill level because if the handicap system

The handicap system system sucks

I run up the innings in my matches so my skill level doesn't go up

They raised our 2 to a 3 in the city cup tournament

that old lady beat me .... she is not really a 3

Every year, more people play APA than anything else. If it were possibly so horrible, how could that continue, year after year, with all the doom and gloom here on AZB?

I had some great experiences playing in the APA, it's just that the cons far outweigh the pros in my opinion. No, there isn't a bunch of drunk idiots bringing UFC XXX to league nights, and we don't have league operators laundering the players' money (at least I hope not). But eventually, like anything else, you'll realize that some things (and especially the countless petty things) aren't worth it. I don't want to travel 20 miles to play in the back of a run-down bowling alley on a garbage pool table where I can't fully stroke, chairs and people are crowding every side, listening to doors slam open and shut while pizzas are being ordered and made and customers/employees are running into you after you're down on a shot. (This was, the last time I played in the "travel" league)

Some great experiences: Winning the team 9ball championship for the first time, going to Cities (minus the lack of practice tables and space), the thrill of seeing your teammate edge out an opponent for the title, etc.

Just moving a hundred miles or so in the same part of the country gives such a grossly different experience with the APA that I wouldn't begin to try to make a blanket statement about that (or any other) league play. I'd be happy to just have the option of a non-traveling league location available on a variety of nights. Playing pool with different levels of skill and enthusiasm has its charm.

Since one has to pay to join the APA, and pay every time you play.

Seems silly to B**** & Moan about something you volunteer to do.

Am I right?

Actually it is so NOT true...but it's funny to hear people complain about it anyway!

edit: Newsflash! The US Army is rumored to be investigating the APA's "brainwashing techniques", to determine whether there might be a military application for the hundreds of thousands of subliminally addicted 'lost souls'. Similar techniques are believed to have been used by companies such as Costco and Apple, to develop and maintain their respective memberships (in the MILLIONS for either company, on any day).

APA, bad?

Dont play APA, just Gamble all the time.

P.S. the APA is the developmental league of pool...., you might have to improve your game & move to the big league..., just gamble all the time!!

Not once did I ever regret leaving the apa. Players will moan and groan no matter what league or tournament you play in. Its a fact there's always at least one cry baby through the night. I've actually seen the sandbagging, and other scandals. Therefore, my money goes elsewhere.

Why this is still the successful league that it is, I have no clue. I just hope it's not the socializing-meet/greet, that gets people to stay and join. That would just mean there is an absurd amount of no life having sob's in pool LOL!

That is too funny!
I had my APA experience in Chattanooga, TN. It has been several years since I chose to no longer participate. I have the privaledge of listening to a few of my friends who are still APA members. I tell them the same thing, week after week. If it's that bad, quit!! I've seen the corruption. I've heard the lies. I've endured the biassed judgements. You're not telling me anything I don't already know. That is the world of the APA, accept it or stop contributing! I think that was the message the original poster was trying to send...
I still like to read these threads. They can get quite humorous at times

BHr...Nah, he forgot the MAIN one...

The league operators all rape the players (financially), give nothing back, and are becoming millionaires for doing nothing.

LMAO

The league has it's flaws, but has it's purpose(though many question what that is) it seems to keep a strong membership.
Every LO will be different, and the one in our area is not perfect, but he does put more money back into then league that required by franchise agreement....I'm sure many do not, and we are a small organization.
I was in Vegas......I managed to have a good time....pool or no pool...it's Vegas.....and didn't cost me a dime.....

Its because it a good social event ,, If I knew then what I know now I would have stopped way before I did and hit weekly turnys and Pro am events instead

However it does have its place for some both my parents loved it my mom till she passed and my dad still plays

Too true.

The only complaint I have is one not even concerning APA, but slow players. I play masters and one team is slower than anything I have ever seen. The only time I've gotten out before 8pm (it starts at noon) is when that team wasn't there (we have two divisions).

Because of that I won't be playing masters anymore. I have no patience for super slow play. An example would be that we played em first week. First match, race to seven was two and a half hours.

The APA is SOO bad.

They give me a fun place to play pool with great people every week.

They bring in thousands and thousands of players that would never play pool if it weren't for the APA

They give me a cheap form of entertainment doing something I love to do

They have a junior program that teaches my kids the fundamentals of pool and how FUN it can be...wtf is that?

They paid me money when we won our league

They gave us a trip to vegas when we won our City tournaments

They gave us money to get to vegas

They gave us money to spend in vegas

They gave us a couple rooms to use while in vegas

They gave us a ton of mini tournaments to play in while we were there

Our league rep gave us coupons for free foods while we were there, saving us even more money

Damn you APA and all you do for the pool community cause let's be honest...if it weren't for the APA, pool would be NOWHERE near where it is now...

I liked the idea of the APA as a social event more than anything else. My problem, which fortunately none of you have brought up so hopefully none of you have run into, is the fact that you can end up with a crappy team captain.

I had the experience of 3 weeks into my paying dues and 2 of my team mates paying dues (that I witnessed), that somehow our ENTIRE team was completely derelict in paying dues and had a nice red notice on top of our score sheet from the LO. So for 3 weeks, at least 3 people paid dues, and our captain used that money for drinks or god knows what. Between that crap and the constant arguments from the other teams of "your 2nd player didn't shoot like a 4" and other grumblings .. I got tired of it quick.

Pool was at its peak far before the APA came along. Where exactly, is pool now? I'd love to hear more on your insight regarding how incredible the pool community is because of the APA. Arizona must have it good!

APA is a place to meet some good people and hopefuly avoid some of the unavoidable BS that comes with being in the APA. I no longer play with the APA because of the not so good people and the terrible corruption of the operator and the league's resident idiots.
