Why are their so many Haters, in a pool forum?

The question is - do you just pass by information that you feel is completely inaccurate and may, in your opinion, hurt someone's pool game or do you comment on why you think it is BS.

I actually think passing by a thread you disagree with is doing the forum a disservice.

I just feel people have strong opinions on certain subjects and they are airing their opinion. If the forum had no emotion it would be a very boring place in IMHO.
Well said.
Some people who can't handle criticism like to accuse others of "hating"...another misuse of an expression by today's grammatically-lazy society.

"You don't agree with me so you must be a hater!"

Just another example of how soft we have become. We want to express our opinions, but can't handle disagreement or contradiction...in other words...hearty and spirited debate!

I also think people who accuse others of being trolls over use that expression as well. Sometimes people are labeled as being troll-like because of the low number of posts, or because they say something that sparks a discussion and then are nowhere to be found.

Well, sometimes that behavior IS troll-esque, but other times we should appreciate that not all users want to post often, or they simply have more important things to do.

When someone on AZ doesn't like what someone else says they call
them haters, sounds childish like something one might hear in a school yard, elementary school.

I laugh when I hear grown men use that term!
Good post.

It seems to me that the folks who call other people haters just because someone disagrees with them are among the most close-minded, hypocritical and intolerant people in this forum.

We should all be able to express ourselves without being labeled names like haters.

Everyone has the same option, read a post or thread or not read a post or thread!!! Very simple. If you do not like what a person writes in the forum, pass it by. I would really like to know why people cannot be nice and kind? I thank you for your input. I am speaking of pool players, so it is pool related.
Many Regards,
Lock N load.

from what i can tell a lot of them just have superiority complexes and self esteem issues. it just seems that that would explain why they pretend to know everything about everything and get angry with anyone that disagrees. so much so that they start in with name calling and insults

The same reason new guys come in here and instead of laying back and assimilating over time-They try to DOMINATE the board from the start! The reason- "It takes all kinds." even people with no social skills.

I agree with many who say that the term 'hater' or 'troll' gets misused.
But in this original post, Lock has a good point.
I think that anyone who denies the right to exist is a hater.

Yeah, the Lock Society is our own little sandbox where there's a lotta
back-slapping, self-congratulation, and hyperbole.....
...but if you can't stand us having some fun, go to another thread....
...or disagree.

But if you don't want us to exist...you be getting a little steam.

By the same token, those who begin to single out a poster's words they choose to use in a post, this is also a mechanism for disagreeing with what the person is saying. If they can't reply with a comprehensive opinion that may differ from the poster, they then say the person's words they choose, e.g., "troll," "haters," et cetera, is overused.

You can't win on this forum. I contribute as much positive content to AzBilliards as I can possibly muster, and then there's one post that somebody takes issue with, and all of a sudden, I'm a [fill in the blank.] Nobody recognizes the good content I do try to provide. Rather, they can to take issue with, as an example, my stance on pro players. It's as if everything else I post here about is forgotten.

Forget the amount of times I've donated money to pool-related causes, members falling on hard times, players trying to compete in China, charity causes, pool education fund, et cetera, et cetera. It gets old.

And if you don't think there are multiple-identified banned posters on here posting on AzBilliards for the sole purpose of causing hurt and/or anger for their own personal entertainment, then you may not be reading this forum as much as I do. I can point out poster names today that have been banned and are still posting under another identity. In fact, not once, not twice, but a half-a-dozen different identities. For whatever reason, even though it's against this forum's stated rules, it continues to happen.

I love a spirited debate, but I don't care for having somebody single me out, slam me with curse words, call me a "groupie" at almost 60 years of age, et cetera, et cetera.

Yeah, it might be time for me to take another hiatus from this place, a permanent one. I really can't take the heat anymore, so it's time to get out of the kitchen. I really am trying to regain my enthusiasm for pool, but reading AzBilliards lately is a big downer.

Jennie, a lot of us recognize your contributions here.

Remember, it isn't he one you're talking to that matters so much as it is those who are lurking, or sweating the match, so to speak.

I suggest using those "haters" as a tool to expose their dishonesties. It's a lot more fun and, imho, does a lot more good for the forum, pool, and your piece of mind.

Poolplayer2093,
This is a great post!

And why are their so many posters who, when posting there posts, don't know how to spell they're?

Keep the gloves on, JAM.
It's an imperfect world where ever you go.
Let your friends determine how your day goes.

There is no such thing as a troll. You have a choice on whether you want to engage in a particular discussion at anytime. If you walked past someone on the street and he called you a 4 eyed moron, do you HAVE to engage him? Of course not. You can walk right by and keep going.

However from the other side of the isle, there are some people whose vanity is so deep, they think that every post is about them. So they engage every post that they think is about them. It might be about a cue, case, NPR arguement, whatever, if they think the post means THEM, they are all in.

I hate when the so-called haters drive out good posters.

I hate that.

hate hate hate

You know what else I hate? I hate when haters misquote the famous hate quote:

I hate IT when that happens.

The original quote is:

I hate when that happens.

Whew....that's enough hate for one day.

double hemlock,
You said a mouthful in this post. We do not bother anyone at all. I give respect where respect is due. I respect anyone man, or lady until proven other wise. And then I still do not bother them. If everybody liked the same thing all houses and cars would look the same because everybody liked the same thing. But if you have something I do not like I do not knock it. That is what you like. Period!
Many Regards,

I see your point, but let me present this thought.

On a public street, how many people witnessed the person being called a "four-eyed moron"? A few within earshot, I would surprise. :p

For the most part, on the street, nobody knows anybody else. They're all strangers.

On this forum, there are a few of us who are known entities. I am not posting under a fake name and concealing my identity. People know who I am. As such, there are many more people witnessing the name-calling, bullying, flame threads, et cetera, and it does get personal. This is why you read about people committing suicide or getting into legal problems because of their participation on the Internet.

I appreciate your sharing your thoughts, but I kind of think posting on this forum is a lot different than walking down the street and being called a name from a stranger. Rather, lately it's more like attending a party and having half the party-goers conceal their identities and wear masks, while the rest of us are not afraid to display who we really are. :embarrassed2:

If I had to do it over again, though, I would have never, never, never posted as me on this forum. NEVER! Big mistake.

Jeff, thanks for the good words.

I believe posting should really be enjoyable. Like playing pool, it should be fun, I think.

In my honest opinion, I think a lot of problems occur when egos clash. When the IPT came to the fore, some -- not all -- of the naysayers were ones that the IPT did not include in the original 200 members. In other words, if they were included in the original 200 members or acknowledged as a referee or tournament director, then they would have been all for the IPT.

The same holds true today with commentators. Have you ever noticed how upset some people are about Commentator A should be doing the job instead of Commentator B?

Industry members have sometimes slammed other industry members for various reasons on this forum, which I've always thought should occur offline. This isn't the place to do it.

I guess I'll never be a Jean Balukas in the pool world, but I'm definitely the Efren Reyes of my work, which is what I do 14, 15, 16, and 17 hours a day. If practice makes perfect, then I should be flawless in what I do. :D
