Just a personal story but this past weekend was my local regionals for APA. My team was alreayd qualified for states but we were playing for money and I was playing a 4.

After playing like shit the whole match I had let the 4 get 30 points while I still needed 27. I decided I had had enough and proceeded to get my 27 points while holding that 4 to his 1 point. It was wonderful and was the highlight of my weekend considering I played like a pile of horse shit in all my other matches.

Very cool, Congrats.

I know what you mean Z.
Where do you play?

I played a male 2 last Tues. In our local town money 8-ball league here in GA.
I play at a 6 lvl. so I had to beat him 6 games to his 2.
I won the 1st 3 games & then I made a mistake or 2 & he won 1 & now he is on the hill.
I then went on to win the next 3 by playing safe & tying up his balls.
My record is now 12-0 for the season.

Actually it's kinda written in a confusing way.

The way the title reads:
"I held my opponent to a single point"

The way the actual post reads:
"I held my opponent to 31 points"

(he was at 30, then made only a single point while zpele made 27).
But that doesn't make sense either because 4's only race to 31 points so the game would have been over. So maybe the 4 had 29 and he only allowed him to reach 30.
Or maybe the 4 had 30 and never got another point for the rest of the match.

Either way, good comeback ^ But try not to cut it so close next time.
I think you got a little lucky if the 4 couldn't close it out needing one point, unless you actually broke and ran 3 racks in a row.

I've gotta agree, it was pretty confusing the way it was written..

So what was the final score? What is your handicap level if he is a 4? I'm reading it just like Creedo does.. Maybe none of can read??

Congrats!

Last night I played my first match after being raised to a 7 and also played like a pile of horse shit. :frown:

Because you can't read or because you dont know how the league is structured?

It's more because you can't write.

To say that you "decided" that you had had enough is rather presumptuous on your part. Likely scenario is that you were praying to the APA gods for the SL4 to miss his many opportunities to make the one point while already having the excuse that the match didn't matter as your team was already qualified. The fact that you feel great about the other guy losing the match but you playing like crap shows your priorities for improving and playing the game are questionable. Good luck on continuing on that path.

If I become a good player, do I have to act like this? Because with my health insurance, I can't afford a lobotomy.

Ty,
Mike

Sounds like a match I played at regionals on year. Played a 3, 6-2 race. Broke and made the 8 first game and the white got kicked in so I was down 1-0. Had to grind them out to win. 6-1.

WoW, that's a great comeback, good job.

I was all set to play 1 of the stronger players lastnight & he didn't show up until later, so the other team picked a female 2 for me to play.
I beat her 6-0

A nice comeback win certainly makes a person sleep better that night.

A month or so ago I was playing a SL9 in an APA handicap 9-ball match. I was a SL6. He needed to make 75 balls to my 46. I won the lag and broke dry. He ran that rack, broke and ran the next rack, and got all the points in the third rack in one inning. So after one inning I am down 30-nothing and he is breaking. He's already made up his handicap difference. He breaks dry in rack four. I opted for a safety as the 1-ball offered too tough of a shot. I played a decent safety but he made a fantastic cut shot on the 1-ball through a small window I had left him but got bad shape on the 2-ball. He tried a tough shot, missed, and I made three balls before missing shape. He got the remaining balls and now leads 37-3 after 4 racks and two innings.

I am going to make a long story shorter to say that after rack 4 I made 43 balls to his 36 (I won the match 46-73 ) by shooting as well as I ever have in my life. Zero to 1-inning games after that. The last game came down to both of us needing the 9-ball for the win and I was at the table. I got a bit funny on the 9 and considered playing safe on it. I looked over at my scorekeeper and asked how many balls we both needed and was told that we both needed this 9-ball to win. I looked over at my opponent and said to him "f*ck it, I'm going for the win" to which he replied "Absolutely!" I banked the 9 long rail for the win. It felt good to have gotten into the "zone" for such a brief moment, long enough to secure the win.

I got moved up to a SL7 the following week :(:grin::grin:.

Maniac (sorry for the long-winded story!!!)
