Well it doesnt look like pink ivory sooo Cocobolo would be my guess, it has some nasty dust for sure, breath some once, you wont do it again lol
I've never had poison ivy nor poison oak nor sumac. The same with cocobolo, that is until around 5 years ago. I now get a rash that itches like crazy on my neck and arms. It also has become difficult to breath. Every time that I use it the reactions become worse. I've got two cues to build right now that are cocobolo based.

It probably will some day. It didn't bother me for 2 years then I got it. It 's like poison ivy. I use to pick it and rub it on me and I never got it. Then I got it on a picnic and ever since.
Once you get the cocobolo herpes, you will dress like me when you cut it.

I have heard that it does get worse after you are sensitized. I bought a tyvek hazmat suit with hood and feet and a big face shield at Grainger. Total cost about $30.
The only thing exposed a little is my eyes. If I get itchy eyes I will buy some swim goggles.
I love coco and I will work with it until I am hospitalized.

Stew is so allergic to Cocobolo that it feels like he is pissing razor blades if he is exposed. For 30 years it did not bother him.
Ouch, I hate when it feels like I am pissing razor blades!!!! LOL :help:
BTW, our 89 year old panto designer friend will be at the show and the party on Sat with some of his cues.

I do get a rash and itch everywhere for 2 weeks. NOT FUN.

I have not had any allergies to it or any woods that I know of. But I went camping a few weeks ago and some campers near us left some nice looking split oak when they left. I loaded it up in my arms and walked back to our site. My arms broke out in a really bad rash. I have been wondering if it was just the oak or had that split wood touched some poison oak. In my shop I don't load wood up on my forearms so I may be more sensitive to wood than I thought. My son can't even touch Cocobolo without it burning his hands instantly.
Once my daughter said I had pulled her a piece of Cocobolo instead of Bocote to fill an order. After looking at it again I told her that she was wrong, but she still insisted it was Cocobolo. So I told my son to come look at this piece of wood. After I handed it to him he just held it looking at it and said "What am I looking for?" Then I looked at my daughter and told her, "See I told you it was Bocote." :smile:

The full suit only costs $7.
I told people that cocobolo made my hands hot and they said I was crazy. It has always done that but the last 2 times I cut it I got the itchy rash and red itchy eyes.
I always wear the respirator so I never get breathing problems.

I feel for ya, I consider myself very lucky that I get no irritations from Cocobolo yet, But a couple of close friends really get tortured by the stuff.
I used to make cocobola cues all the time and never was effected until I made about 6 cues at one time and it ate me up. I quit maked for several years and then one day someone ordered one and I had to make it, no problem.
As long as I only make one every so often and wash real good after I do then I do not have any problems. I do leave the room while the CNC does the cutting and have a filter system that takes the dust out of the air.
