How does it play? Does the extra inch help or not really? Did the balance change much? Pros? Cons?

Thanks!

Best to try one out for yourself. I would be willing to meet you sometime in the N. Dallas highway 75 area. I have a few 60" cues you could try.

Or, if you live closer to the mid-cities area, you can come to Pockets (Euless) on a Sunday evening, Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday night and ask someone in the back room for Maniac (or Tony). I not only have 60" cues, but I also have a 31" Jacoby butt (with 29" standard or 314 shaft) you could try out. Call me if you want to. 817-999-3618. I possibly may not have a match to play this coming Sunday evening though.

Hey Larry and Tony,

I really appreciate your offer and I will take you up on it!!! This kind of stuff makes AZ worthwhile. But unfortunately I am booked solid for the next couple of weeks with work, travel and family commitments. So I will get back with you later this month. Thanks again for the kind offer!

I play with a Downey that match your specs. I originally ordered a 30/30 split and didn't like it all. Troy took the shafts back down to 29s and it plays great. I think the extra inch was enough to mess with the deflection and it messed me up. The balance point barely changed, 19 1/2 inches if i remember right. I also get the extra inch for reach shots. This of course is just my opinion, hope this helps.

That's what I play with. My cue was originally 30" and 30" but I am not crazy about most 30" shafts, so I tried a 29" shaft and liked it. I've just moved my grip up an inch or so and found I had a little better control - so I stuck with it.

I prefer now also a longer size.
29 butt and 29 shaft- fits perfect for me. A cuemaker needs really knowledge in my opinion, to manufacture a real good 30 inches shaft.

Update: Some data for you.

Okay, I did some balancing/measuring with my 31" Jacoby butt, my Larry Vigus 30" butt, and my Willie Speed 60" cue. Just for sh*ts and giggles, I measured my 60" Vigus break cue.. I balanced the two butts with three shafts: a standard maple 29" shaft, a 29" Predator 314, and an 30" OB Classic. I measured from the balance point to the end of the buttsleeve, not the end of the rubber bumper. Here are the facts:

Jacoby 31" butt:
29" standard shaft = balance point @ 20 1/2"
29" Predator 314 = balance point @ 20 3/8"
30" OB Classic = balance point @ 21 1/2"

Larry Vigus 30" butt:
29" standard shaft = balance point @ 20 5/8"
29" Predator 314 = balance point @ 20 1/4"
30" OB Classic = balance point @ 21"

Willie Speed 60" cue (30/30 split)
12.4mm standard shaft = balance point @ 18 3/4"

Larry Vigus 60" break cue (30/30 split)
Lyptus shaft = balance point @ 19 7/8"

I don't know if any of this is meaningful to the OP, but there is the only data I can contribute. The only thing I got out of my effort was to determine (imo, of course) that using a longer butt with a standard length shaft does not alter the balance point to any noticeable difference.
