Low priced cue owners

Before I found out about this site, I had a $30 cue, an $80 cue, a $110 cue, and a $140 cue.

Since then, I've spent $160, $300, $450, $120, $250, $750, and $350.

Granted, I've sold all of them and kept the last four, and more or less broke even for the most part, minus shipping charges.

Before I found this site (several years before I actually signed up) I had two cues. Now I have more than forty...and counting....

I have 2 Joss butts, one the cheapest model available and one I bought here for $125 shipped. I am very happy with how they play and wouldn't consider changing.

I have a Joss laminated shaft from a previous custom Joss I had purchased and then sold that follows me to whatever cue I am using. I work a lot, make decent money, could go and buy something more expensive but why bother when you're content and know what you like?

I have several expensive cues (Kikel, Barenbrugge, Josey, W Hunter) but just took a very nice Joss in trade. Steel joint. What a fantastic hitting cue, I've been practicing with it all day. Perfect balance, in fact, I thought it was lighter than the trader told me and had to weigh it to believe they were correct. I'm not sure how a cue could play better than this Joss. Proved to me you can get a great playing, good looking cue without breaking the bank.
 
I shoot with a relatively cheap custom from the Philippines... it's straight and shoots well. I love the feel of it and it's a 59".

Before shooting with it since I was waiting for it to come back for a repair, I shot with a Players for almost a year. $70 stick and I did some of my best playing with it!

As long as it's straight, has a good tip, and you're used to it, that's what really matters.

I don't remember Mike ever telling me about his military experience. Sounds pretty interesting.

Mike stopped cranking out cues a couple of years ago, I think because of health issues. When he was still making cues, he always wanted me to try out his latest offerings. I don't think it was always to try and make a sale off of me. It was mostly to get a "players" opinion on hit and feel. I told him I probably wasn't the best person to be doing this, being that I'm only slightly better than many bangers in the pool room. But he knew me pretty good and valued my thoughts.

One day he wanted me to try out a sneaky pete he developed. When I did, I was stunned by the quailty of hit I got from it. I told him it would be absolutely perfect for me if only the shaft diameter was shaved down a 1/4 mm. Sure enough, he told me to stick around and he'd be back soon. He returned with the diameter I wanted and a sale was made. I still play with that cue.
 
I've never spent more than $200 on a cue. My first cue was a Joss that a friend gave to me. I gave it back, after two years of playing with it, and thanked him. Then I bought a low end McDermott. Traded that for a Viking. Sold the Viking. Now I have a purple heart 4 point sneaky pete from Schmelke. I'd considered it a semi-custom. His cues are definitely worth looking into.
 
Never spent more than 200$. I have a Cuetec R360 I use every time I play (laugh away). I do have about a 600$ McDermott that I liked, but I need a new shaft. That one was given to me though.
 
I have high end cues.
I play with a cuetec right now.

But i will never pay good money for cue ever again.

I know 3 guys who got Elite's for around $100 each, and one guy who got a Fury for under $200.

ALL these cues play good.
Like, REALLY good. The fact that they were so inexpensive just emphasizes the fact that you don't need to pay a lot of money for cues these days to get the performance you want.

Some of the inexpensive cues play just as good if not better, then their "custom" counterparts.

I also have a 98 Predator.
Played with it for a long time.
Shaft getting smaller.
Decided to try the R360 LD shaft and see for myself.
Well worth the small money

The butt is for looks but the shaft and tip does the job.
