Build a champion in a month or 2. Is this possible?

Zach is right on schedule..............

We got in the Thanks giving tourny at the Flamingo in Independence.

Zack snapped it off for about $1100 payout.

All the playing and matching up has him right on schedule.

Bad news is he is getting sick with the same crap that I've had for 10 days. I'm still sick. Got real weak at the tourny.

We both would be bad bets at the St Jo tourny. I havn't hardly played since Shooters tourny and Zack might end up real sick in a day or 2. He don't think so but allot of people are getting this bug and it's no fun.

But who knows. I'm diabetic so everything kicks my butt. Zack is 23 and real healthy.

Here it is.......

Do you have a link that shows proof of 42,000 deaths per-year caused by second hand smoke?

It only takes 20 minutes of secondhand smoke exposure before breathing is impaired, a new study shows.

Researchers from the University of Athens, the Hellenic Cancer Society and the Harvard School of Public Health had 15 healthy study participants go inside a chamber meant to simulate a bar or car filled with secondhand smoke particulates for 20 minutes to see how their breathing was impaired.

In just that short amount of time, air flow through the participants' airways was impeded.

"The observed short-term effects of secondhand smoke tell us that even a short exposure is indeed harmful for normal airways," study researcher Dr. Panagiotis Behrakis, M.D., FCCP, of the University of Athens, said in a statement.

The new findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Chest Physicians; because the study has yet to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, findings should be regarded as preliminary.

Similarly, a study published in 2007 in the American Journal of Public Health showed that cancer-causing NNK -- a compound that comes from the smoke of cigarettes -- builds up by 6 percent every hour in bar- and restaurant-workers who are exposed to secondhand smoke during their night shifts, TIME reported.

"We were somewhat surprised by the immediacy of the effect and the fact that we could measure the average hourly increase," study researcher Michael Stark, principal investigator at the Mulmomah County Health Department in Oregon, told TIME.

Earlier this year, a study in the American Journal of Public Health showed just how many lives secondhand smoke claims in the U.S. each year: 42,000, Livescience reported.

You can look it up further now that you know where to go.

Pretty sad. No wonder I feel so bad and i can't control my blood sugar.

That's alot for your body to fight especially if you already have something wrong with you already.

Diabetes is tough to control already.

With this proof it's hard to believe there are 20 or so states that still allow smoking. In Mississippi they still have smoking sections in the restuarants. I ordered some food in a waffle house. She brought my food and the guy next to me lit one up.

I walked out. Threw $10.00 on the counter and said. You got to be kidding.

Hello Geno and Zack,
Happy Thanksgiving to you both. I see you are proving a lot of people wrong with your road player champion building with Zack. Already winning tournaments and money. With a 23 year old player. Much less time than your thread listed too. I think that is great Geno. I am proud of you and Zack already. Don't let anything kick your butt! And keep Zack on track. I like what you are doing for pool players all over the USA.
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

I play Zack tomorrow on the winners....

Tomorrow at 10:30 we play.

I don't know why we play so early. There's only 4 left in the winners and maybe a dozen on the losers side.

The kids playing pretty good. I think he will win this one.

Had a good tournament.......

Zack is sicker than a dog but still played pretty good. the smoke in Sharkeys was pretty bad.

I put Zack in the losers. It was really tough to do that because we bought half of Zack in the calcutta. Everyone thought I was going to dump. it was tempting but we kept it on the square. Cost us about $500 for sure though. I know why players dump in the calcutta. Hard to beat your horse.

We didn't buy any of me in it because I didn't feel very good but I did start shooting better. I'm getting over this terrible cold just in time.

Zack got 5th. I ended up with second. I beat Joey Gray the first set and lost the second.

If we were players just running around trying to make it with the pool it would be kind of tough.

The room is about 170 for 3 days. Entry fees were 30 each and half of Zack was 50. Gas to get here was about 100. Together we spent about 80 in quarters.

total $460 invested and won $750 in the tournament. Profit of $290.

That's not counting food and other expenses.

This is why it is so tough for a guy to stay on the road for too long.

The road will eat you up a little at a time.

This is also what I am trying to teach Zack how tough it really is.

Our goal right now is to get Zack some eye surgery. Laser .

He wears contact lenses and the smoke is real hard on the eyes for him. I used to wear contacts also and I just had trouble all the time.

Especially if we are going to have him play someone for a long period of time.

Tomorrow I have a couple of lessons. That's going to be fun. We got some $100 sets for Zack to play and I got them coming out of the woodwork to play me.

After my 2 lessons I'll be playing a young guy some 9 ball.

Been a fun 3 days. And the weekend isn't even over.

Might have to head back to Kansas City to do a couple of missed lessons.

Geno you need a camera to follow you around. Sounds like reality tv the stuff you talk about in your posts. Seriously.

How much did you go for?

U going to still be in the KC area next weekend for that lesson?

Congrats. Who came in 3rd?

I played him for second and third.

That Brandon plays pretty good too. I had him 4-0 and he came back and had me on the hill.

last game with him lasted about 45 minutes. Allot of safes. The kid plays smart........

If I can set up at least 2 lessons for monday I will be coming back to KC for one day. Maybe 2 if I get more lessons.

Got allot of players interested but they just won't spend the money on themselves.

One guy asked me tonight if Perfect Aim is why Zack plays so good.

Zack is like a perfect Aim poster child. Plus he eats and sleeps pool all the time. But you need to have your aim right on every shot.

Next thing i know he asks Zack to give him a lesson for half price. I'm going to have to teach Zack to teach Perfect Aim.

For half price they get Zack. And I'm sure he can teach it just fine......

Got a producer from California calling this week......

Geno you need a camera to follow you around. Sounds like reality tv the stuff you talk about in your posts. Seriously.

This is the real stuff and Zack is right on schedule.

The lessons I give not only help players tremendously but the income keeps us rolling.

Have to see what this guy has in store but whatever it is it would be good for pool.

Can't wait to hear from him.........

It's a possibility.........

I don't think so, but I wish you both the best.
Will you be coming to Phoenix area?

I need to get out of the smoke. Go north and it's cold. Go south and it's allot of smoke. Phoenix is a great pool shooting non smoking state as you know.

Many cities in the south have made their own smoking ban but it's hard to stay out of the smoke when the tournament is in a smoking place that not included in the ban like the suburbs.

Phoenix is a great place to be if your a pool players. Hope to get there in the near future.

There's always something going on there.

Gene/Zach,
Be careful with laser eye surgery. Two of my friends have had it done and can no longer read close up. Particularly if Zach is young his eyes will change after a bit and he'll just need it again, thinning the eye lens even further. It's probably easier and cheaper if he just keeps a couple of disposable contacts and changes them every four to five hours if it's really smokey--this has worked well for me. I know plenty of people that have had good success with laser eye surgery, but feel sorry for the handful that it hasn't worked well for. In a job where eye-sight is everything, anything short of perfect won't work, and is more of a risk than anything.
Good luck to you all and the potential film/documentary interest. I look forward to hearing more about your adventures.-Ryan

Congrats to you Geno for your second place finish. Beating Joey Gray, is a task in itself. He was in New Orleans, Louisiana a couple of weeks ago. At Buffalo Billiards. Tell Zack to watch out with that laser surgery, it does not always help. Geno you are doing a great job. Their should be more people like you. I bet Zack did not think you could beat him! Hope you and Zack had a great Thanksgiving.
Many Regards,

Today I did 3 lessons. Got to make the grocery money.

I got Zack playing one of the young up and coming players here, Brandon .

They're only playing $20 sets. Zack needs the work.

Zack knows I can win. I beat Joey Gray in the first set and was feeling pretty good. Joey just put the boots to me the second set.

I broke dry 3 times. That will finish off just about anyone in a final match.

Tomorrow we go back to KC to do a couple of lessons that I missed while I was there last week.

Not sure which direction we will go to next. it would be nice to go back to Wisconsin for Christmas.

The nice thing about trying to teach Zack to do the right things out here it keeps me on track also. Eating and sleeping right is huge. We need to get more real excersize at the gym though. that will come.

And just for the record. For right now Zack doesn't ever have to beat me and usually doesn't but this will change soon.

it's fun watching this transformation happen.

Heading back to Kansas City for a day......

It's been fun in St Joseph.

Now back to business. Zack is sicker than a dog. He's got that runny nose chest cold thing that I've had for a week. I just need to have him playing people cheap sets to stay where he is.

This is one of the tough things while on the road. I pool player just playing pool is kind of screwed. The rooms still cost the same and all the other expenses. The good news is there are 2 of us and I have a little ace in the hole. It's called Perfect Aim.

Got 2 lessons in KC so that is the mission today. Probably get Zack some $50 one pocket action at Shooters. I know the person he's going to play will be very surprised. They might even brteak even with Zack being sick but it would be hard for him to lose.

One more day on the road. Just need to make it a positive one one the money and survival of the road.

Rough day at the office.......

Well, we had a pretty rough day.

Got up and decided to go to Des Moine Iowa. They have a $1000 added tourny there next weekend

Called my lessons in KC and told them I would be back. One of them couldn't make it from work anyway.

Packed up at 11:00 and barely got enough sleep. Zack is still sick and could have used allot more sleep. I just needed more than 7 hours.

It took about 4 hours for the trip with stopping and eating. Got a room at 6:30 in Des MoineJust got down to the poolroom to play in their Monday night 8 ball tourny.

Zack and myself got 1st and second. We're both pretty tired now. Niow is not the time to match up and play someone.

There is a guy that is drunk shooting off his mouth about betting 10,000. Nice guy but he thinks because he's putting up the money he has the right to shark you with a little comment before a tough shot here and there. On one bank I had in the side he says. If you make this you win, as I'm stroking it. Pretty sad but that's the nature of the drunk backer.

As soon as he asks his player to play me some big money matches he comes back and says let's keep it friendly and just play for $100. I really like the game if I wasn't so tired.

I decided to play some tonight for the 100 a game thinking this would keep it going for tomorrow when I'm fresh.

I didn't play very good. On top of being tired I hurt my shoulder a LITTLE BREAKING IN THE TOURNY. IT JUST FEELS WORE OUT KINd OF.But I can still play.

I play real bad the first 5 games and get stuck $300 right away.

I look over and Zack is playing a guy one pocket for $100 a game. They had been playing for $50.

I like $50 but not $100. Zack is sick and didn't get enough sleep. I have a method for my madness. I'm starting something that I really like so I can continue it tomorrow. Zack needs to rest. Plus he has the drunk guy over there haggling him while he is trying to play.

He loses $200 and quits.

One thing one the road is you don't want to play tired and sick. We got both. I'm just getting over being sick.

I lose $700 and Zack $200.

We're meeting them back at Big Dogs at 4:00. I think the outcome will be a little different. At least I hope.

I also got to get Zack to shut off his darn phone. For some reason He thinks it needs to be on so people can call him when he's sleeping. the problem is that I wake up everytime it rings.

it woke me up one time last night and I didn't get back to sleep for 1 hour. I also have sleep apnea. It's hard enough to sleep but to have a stupid cell phone wake me up is rediculous.

The cell phone will be shut off after last night. had enough of people from other places waking me up to say hi to Zack. Friends are friends but you need to sleep and you need to sleep well.

Back to the drawing board.

Hey Gene,
I wore contacts for over 30 years till I had my cataract surgery, and then I still needed a small correction in one eye. I highly reccommend 1-Day Accuvue Moist lenses. You can get some trials from an optometrist. I would try them before I had the eye surgery. I play a lot of pool, and they work really well for me. SteveD
