Ebay listing question/warning

The easiest way to tell if an ITS GEORGE CASE, is VINYL

is to check the Latch,

If it has a locking (a key slot) latch mechanism, it is NOT a Vinyl version, unless the latch was changed.

The ITS GEORGE-V, cases have a latch that is same style as the regular ones, but it does not have a locking mechanism.

PS. From what I can tell, this is an early 1990's ITS GEORGE case, and the case is a tan ostrich leather print, but it is a real leather.

PSPS--I just read the ad a bit closer and realized they are advertising the case as, "REAL OSTRICH SKIN", this is not true, ITS GEORGE never offered real exotic skins, they are cow-leather or bull-hide that is formed with a print of the styles they advertised, like-"Ostrich Print Leather" is a printed cow leather with a simulated bumps of the ostrich. Once again hope this helps out.

I dont know if the seller is stating an untruth, because a lot of people think that the leather are from the real animals, just not educated in what ITS GEORGE used.

It looks correct for an Ostrich print leather George case. But having the pocket taken off the case value is really destroyed. Hard to imagine doing that over a busted zipper, they can be replaced.

I don't know how you could make out anything that was "rubbed out" with those pictures. But, I have an It's George V, and it's the writing is center aligned on the bottom of the case. If this was a V, the "George" would be shifted to the left, and there would be an empty space on the right. As the "George" is dead center on the bottom of the case, it's not a vinyl and no V has been removed. It doesn't really matter, as the case is missing its pocket, and shows a LOT of wear.

I have an It's George brochure from approximately 1990. It indicates that exotic leathers were available upon request and shows a picture of python, shark, and elephant cases.
 
Devilish nailed it here. And, as AtLarge stated, real skins were available although quite rare. Also, not noted, is this case has the lip that comes and around from the ends. This was only done with the last ones out of Mike's shop before Brunswick came into the picture (and Brunswick continued it as well). So although this case would be more desirable than a Bruns model, the lip is just one more detractor for me, aside from the missing pocket.

One thing you can learn right now.. you can ALWAYS learn more, and you'll still not know as much as you'd like. This site is a treasure trove of knowledge on just about anything pool related. You just have to ask in such a way as to get the ones with the knowledge you're looking for to answer.

ps I wouldn't pay $400 for that cue and case!! Both are beat to hell and back in my opinion.
 
I know that. I have a brand new STL5 in my case, a beat to stl4 is not what im looking for. Given theres the crack in the butt cap and all that.

Im looking for a lower profile case though, what do you think would be a fiar offer for me to make on the case if hes interested in selling it byitself. Im getting sick of carrying around a rather heavy 4x6 case when I only shoot with one cue, and I usually play one pocket.

As for the always wanting to learn more, thats why I am here. I started shooting pool around a year ago.

I doubt that he would sell it by itself. But if he were to do so, I still wouldn't be able to offer a price. As beat up as it is, it would be worthless to me. I'd rather get a brand new GTF vinyl (Kopy Kat) case than that thing. And more than likely for about what he would want for just his case.
 
hmm.

if you look closely it does look like there is a smudge or something over where a V would be. you can't go by spacing since they vary from cue to cue. like others have said the value dropped when the pocket was removed. if the pocket was in place the lining would show leather on a leather and a woven cloth facing on a vinyl.
