If u don't have a rear chuck or your piece is short, center drill the rear of the piece and use 60 degree dildo in the back to keep the piece straight. Drill all but the last 2 inches then turn it around and finish.

A lot of your better cue makers bore out the head of all bits and insert wireless security cameras in them so they can see any inside movement.

No off of the top of my head I have no names and might have made that up but I'll bet I get a few heads whirling. :grin:

It really is just that easy. I need to find those blanks as I only have one made for my .775" coring drill and want to make one for the .650" also. It really does save a lot of time. But you have to have a lathe that has a centered steady rest with removable collets for it to work.
 
OK, so I went ahead and followed Chris' advice about using the steady rest as a guide. I took an old butt sleeve scrap and bored it out and got it to fit in the steady rest. WORKED LIKE A CHAMP!!! Hole is nice, straight and even.

I have some pieces of cutoffs lying around. I can make one from wood in about 5 minutes.

What do you think.... cocobolo, curly maple, padauk, or bacote ?????

Drill guide

I found a of 1 3/4 delrin I had lying around and made a gun drill bushing. It is not really a bushing because it does not spin, the drill is just held steady as you start the hole in the work piece.

If it was myself the choice from that bunch would be cocobolo for sure. It is the oiliest.
