Mosconi Cup Coverage and Discussion Dec 10-13.

That UK commentator that's doing interviews between some matches, is that a mink, a muskrat, or a polyester rug on top of his head? :scratchhead: Whatever it is, it looks... warm.

That would be Andy Goldstein, I've seen him up close and it's his real hair and with the temperature around 0 outside and English HVAC being what it sometimes is, staying warm is important. I think you're jealous. Perhaps follicularly challenged?

Good day for USA 3-2 ahead - the fans are like 85%for Europe - feel sorry for the US to play in conditions like that...
I'd say it was more like 95%.

While it's nice to have the whole room rooting for you, Shuff seemed to be enjoying the amazing volume. The crowd does (nearly always) go silent for the shot.

I had high hopes for a 4-1 finish for the night.

It was about 6 hours of pool including getting there early to get a good seat. Fortunately there are two late-hours fried chicken places on the way back to the hotel. And Guinness in the room refrigerator. The chicken places here also offer spicy lamb sandwiches.

Shot clock runs for USA while European fans rant and make it hard to shoot. It's BS. Don't start the clock until the crowd Shuts TFU.
That's not the way it works. You have to be able to think with the noise on. The crowd is quiet for the shot. The event producers -- the ones who pay the players win or lose -- are not interested in a library atmosphere.

The chicken shwarmas in London are the bomb (and most of those places stay open late)...I've never had a bad one; except the ready-made ones you buy in a Tesco--those are dangerous. If you like Indian food, you won't find better anywhere in the World (India, included).

Earl absent yet again.

Has Earl Strickland been banned from competing in the cup? I was able to catch some of his matches this year on streams and he seemed to be playing very well and had a great attitude. If anyone knows I would like to hear your thoughts.

Well for starters Earl didn't get enough points to make the team. Although I heard he will never again grace york hall.

Wish Earl was there
He'd shoot their livers out lol

Shawarma isn't Indian food. Point taken though :)

for those complaining about the crowd, have you ever seen the Ryder Cup?

The home crowd is part of what makes these events special and the reason they alternate venues.

The Ryder Cup is 1000 times the event that the Mosconi Cup is and golf is traditionally the "gentlemen's" sport, yet, every 2 years when the Cup is contested the home crowds are loud, boystrous, and at times a little crude and over the top. This goes for Europe and the Americans. For the most part, everyone is will behaved but there is nothing wrong with cheering for the home team or even against the visiting team.

Every missed putt by the visiting team is met with loud cheers much like a scratch by the American's yesterday. From what I saw and what was confirmed by Bob Jewett, the crowd is silent during the shot, which is the way it should be. After and between the shots, the jeering, and banter is all part of it.

The players either respond to it and love the pressure or they fold like a cheap suit. That's what makes this event unlike any other and hopefully continues to grow in popularity because it can only help the sport from a viewership standpoint.

Thirty years ago I attended a “friendship” billiards match in Germany between Germany and Austria. In the first round, two young Austrian brothers (the Horvaths) played two Germans at balkline. The level of play was stupendous. The Austrians won both matches. During the break, I was in the restroom washing my hands. An elderly German gentleman at the next washstand said to me, “Those were great matches, weren’t they?” I agreed that they had been and said that it was a shame that neither of the home team players had been able to win his match. The other gentleman said to me, “Oh, come on! We don’t want to become a soccer crowd.”

If The Mosconi Cup is what it takes to make pool popular, my prayer is that pool remain a boutique, niche sport that you have to watch being broadcast on the WEB for four hundred viewers by billiard-crazy entrepreneurs. One afternoon in the quiet, knowledgeable atmosphere of the CSI US Open One Pocket Championship is worth a thousand hours of The Mosconi Cup. The “practice room” at the DCC has more dignity at four o’clock in the AM than York Hall. Get out your dictionary of British English and look up YOB and ASBO.

The Mosconi Cup—Go USA, but wake me when it’s over.

That's weird. I watched it last night on espn3, am watching it again right now on the same link to make sure it still works. It does. I'm in Michigan and don't have cable for tv, so if it works for me it should work for you. Here is the link again.

Thanks for trying help....however, I still get the "choose provider" window when I click on the replay. You would think Dish network would be one of the networks on the list. Lord knows I spend enough money with them.

As soon as I found out who both teams were I stated the USA had a good shot at an up-set if they could jump out to a big lead that would take much of the 95% Europe fans out of it. USA had a chance to do this the first day. A lot of people here are on Brandon's case, but no one seems to blame Shane or Dennis for giving a point/match to Europe.

I'm not saying the USA can't win from here...but it will be very tough now. Johnnyt

Why dont you go to a place that has Wi-fi and ESPN and use their IP addy?? I know its a hassle but seeing this stuff live is fricking awesome. I get a racing pulse in certain spots and get out of my chair and scream a huge YEAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! followed by clapping!! It really is something to experience.

Do that or go to a buddies place if you have that option ;)

What's that you say Johnnyt? How did Shane and Dennis give a match point to Europe?
