for those complaining about the crowd, have you ever seen the Ryder Cup?
The home crowd is part of what makes these events special and the reason they alternate venues.
The Ryder Cup is 1000 times the event that the Mosconi Cup is and golf is traditionally the "gentlemen's" sport, yet, every 2 years when the Cup is contested the home crowds are loud, boystrous, and at times a little crude and over the top. This goes for Europe and the Americans. For the most part, everyone is will behaved but there is nothing wrong with cheering for the home team or even against the visiting team.
Every missed putt by the visiting team is met with loud cheers much like a scratch by the American's yesterday. From what I saw and what was confirmed by Bob Jewett, the crowd is silent during the shot, which is the way it should be. After and between the shots, the jeering, and banter is all part of it.
The players either respond to it and love the pressure or they fold like a cheap suit. That's what makes this event unlike any other and hopefully continues to grow in popularity because it can only help the sport from a viewership standpoint.
