i see alot of people lumping shuff in with dechaine after the mosconi cup. not to bash dechaine, i can't even imagine the pressure, but brandon played well. he made the big shot at 4-3 in the doubles match with dechaine, mike dogged that 6 and the 4 in the next game, not brandon's fault. and he came out of the gate in that last singles match against melling breaking and running his first 2. then luck and rolls took over and there was nothing he could do about it in a race to 5. that last shot tells the whole story when melling crapped in that 6 ball. if brandon would have had the chances mike had against nick vdb, he wins 5-1. he basically just caught melling catching cards on the river 4 straight hands.

i feel bad for mike. he's plays great and deserves to be there. nobody could understand the pressure he was under. nobody has every played down 10-9 at the MC with his team and country counting on him. if anyone ever does and comes through, please...bash away.

and archer was a BEAST. he would have had to be the captain's pick had it came down to that.

congrats to all 5 guys. the euros got all the rolls on their home turf and the US still went 11-9. i hope we get 'em next year with the same 5 guys.

I agree. Nice job boys. Get 'em next year.

Congrats to the entire team! Definitely a high pressure environment. Although he obviously needs further seasoning and a few professional wins under his belt, but Landon Shuffett is a player to watch. I was most impressed with his game, and how he dealt with Strickland at the Tunica event this year.

I would have to disagree that Europe got all the rolls. USA did get there fare share of the rolls, the difference being when Europe got the rolls they took advantage of them and won the game/match. That was not always the case for USA.......some of the rolls they handed the Jelly right back to the Europe.

"I expect good rolls to come my way and when they do I will take advantage of them." The Monk says this in his book. Some of the USA members did not do the second half of this quote.

does it really need another thread?

I don't think so.

I agree.

In any case...

I think now that the smoke has cleared it seems the vast majority of people here have come to realize that Brandon played pretty decent given he's a rookie and it was held in a war zone. Seems the negative posts have dwindled since the first day or two.

It bothers me that he and Mike have received so much negativity here. I wish some posters here would be more capable of putting themselves in their shoes. Some of the posts here, if I were Shuff or Mike, might have made me question myself.

Good first Cup Shuff. Keep your chin up big guy!

Gotta fight.

Both for your right to PARTAY, and to see KEnt/ Parker winner.

If I had a team and there was one shot to win the whole thing I want Shuff to shoot the shot at this time in his pool career.

All the things that he has done week after week after week have not only gotten him to where he is right now but have prepared him for that one single moment.

Congrats to all the guys.

the only reason the US team even got close was the rolls, they got a ton of them. Archer is the only on that played well. The truth is the truth. Mike even said it himself after his match on the final day.

I stayed up all night watching the last day. When I got to work I tried to put myself in Mike's shoes. I set up the shots he missed and tried them.

For free, with no pressure, on my newly recovered table with generous pockets.......I missed every shot the first time I tried it.

I used to criticize barbox league as well. Having lived in Germany I was no stranger to team play so I knew the pressures of playing on a team and being the deciding player. But then I got to Colorado and played league and quickly found out that this is also pressure and even though the pockets are big the shots don't get easier when the outcome matters. And that was done without a hostile crowd.

As for all the negativity, it's normal. Players that miss in any sport are going to be criticized just as much as they are idolized when they hit the winning shot. It's the reason we play and the reason we watch, thrill of victory agony of defeat as it used to be said on Wide World of Sports.

All the players who were on the Mosconi Cup team deserved to be there. For the three spots that were chosen by rank list the players had to earn their way there. Brandon and Mike did this. Rodney, Earl, Corey and any other American professional player had the exact same opportunities to play their way onto the team and not have to hope for an invitation.

Maybe this coming year will see them working harder to get back on the team.
