Diamond Ten Ball Invitational

Yes, I'd bet whatever that someone with just 1k cant get in.

Didn't a person who was a sponsor play in it and stink up the joint really bad?

Jay wants people who can play. It would break your heart and bankroll if you were seeing a no one shoot in it "just because he had $1000" when you as a player can get up and run out racks.

You are correct, qualified players only, those with a track record against good players.

I want to announce a major change in the Diamond Ten Ball event at Derby City this year (actually Jan. 29-Feb.2, 2013). We will be expanding the field to 32 players and the added money will now be $18,000, making the total purse $50,000!

First place will pay $20,000, second place $10,000, third and fourth $5,000 each and fifth through eighth $2,500 apiece! I have 24 players already entered but will accept requests from qualified players to get in. You can contact me at jayhelfert@yahoo.com or via PM right here. The entry fee remains $1,000 and must be paid by Jan. 27 in cash or prior to that via check to Diamond.

This will be the biggest and the best Ten Ball event ever held! You won't want to miss this one. One more reason to come to Derby City this year.

Race to 15?

Single or double elimination?

Will there be a stream to watch this for those that can't attend?

All matches are Ten Ball, Race to Eleven on the 10' tables. It's single elimination and it takes two wins to make the money. I know the final three matches (semis and finals) will be in the Accu-Stats arena. Those are all available through accu-stats.com. There may be other feature matches in there as well during the earlier rounds. I won't know that until the time comes.

sounds great. Looking forward to it

This will be awesome Jay!! Hope that the matches can be posted so that those of us not lucky enough to be there can keep track.

Best,

Russ.....

Jay,

Before deciding to go to a 32 man field did you think, by doing so, the event would eventually become diluted? I really think this is what will happen over time. While the decision has been made, I don't feel it is the right one for the sake of longevity as well as keeping with the elite feel this event always offered in the past!

Also, don't you think this will effect the action rooms? The very reason DCC is such a success is because of the gambling! Having your 10 ball event is great but as DCC grows I feel it will be tough to keep players interested! Having 32 players in your event maybe lessens the likelihood of them playing in other events, such as the 1 pocket challenge and straight pool.

There comes a point when too much takes away from everything...and I feel that is what is happening here! Trying to shove too much into the overall 9 day event changes what DCC is all about....GAMBLING!

Good luck with your event and I know there will be premier matches here as well I will want to sweat! But over time original appeal of DCC keeps changing and not in a good way in my opinion!

Good luck with you tourney!

Good point Gary, but we have always intended to expand this event to 32 players and make it a focal point at DCC. We were only waiting for the 10' tables to be ready. So now is the time. I'm not worried about finding 32 quality players. They are knocking on the door now and asking to get in. It will be a strong field with no soft spots for anyone! By the way there is no more One Pocket Challenge, at least not for now.

I agree with Jay. You could probably expand this to a 64-player tournament with even bigger money and you'd have super strong players come out of the woodworks to load up the brackets. With not a gimme in the bunch.

Sure, the 32nd best guy might not be as strong as SVB or Archer ON PAPER, but that's why they play the game, right? Even in a race to 15, you might see someone like a Sossei, Compton or Gray get on a roll and shock the masses (NOTHING against those 3 players, btw. They're crazy strong).

Thanks, Jay for your response!

After re-reading my post I can see how this could be taken as being brash although that was far from my intention! I remember when you first spoke of this last year and hoped then it wouldn't go happen. But like I said, I know there will be some great match-ups and I will be there for 4-5 days to hopefully sweat the whole tourney.

Thanks Jay!

ps...Although I have seen you lots of times, I will be sure to introduce myself this year!

weres johnny archers name at surely hesplaying in it.

Johnny has not responded to my inquiries about playing. I'm not sure if he's even coming to DCC. Newest entries include Brian Brekke and Eric Durbin.

If Johnny wants staked, I'm in. Another poster here also offered to stake Earl.

Yes, it's all on 10' tables and we will be playing matches both day and night. We will have four tables to play on, two in one area and two in another. I will consider the recommendation of extending the semis and the finals into longer races. I hope we get a lot of people to come to see this one. I'm digging deep to make it the best one yet! :thumbup2:

might want to think about the payouts too..last year you win 2 matches u get 3500 and with 18 k in the pot u win 2 matches u only get 2500...even poker dont pay 40% for first place seems top heavy to the winner

This is only a 32 man field.... It's hard to compare this payout to poker since their fields have between 2k and 5k players in them.... Closest field size to this in poker would be the one drop tourney that limited their field to 48 players...

Entry fee was 1 million dollars, 5.5 million went to charity leaving 42.5 million in the prize pool.... Payouts were as follows

1. 18.3 m 43%
2. 10.1 m 24%
3. 4.35 m 10%
4. 2.64 m 6%
5. 1.83 m
6. 1.62 m
7. 1.4 m
8. 1.23 m
9. 1.1 m

Also, if you look at their high roller tournaments that have fields this size... You'll see that they pay up to 50% for 1st sometimes....

That being said, I think it's amazing that Jay has put together a tourney where a player only has to fade a 32 man field to win 20K!!!
