8-ball, I get the bottom 2 pockets, you get the rest

depends on who breaks

depends on who breaks. If i have the bottom 2 and i'm breaking you are in serious trouble

I dunno but it sounds like a fun proposition. Gonna try it when I shoot next. Can you say if it's a hard break or not?

With a hard break I'd think the guy with 4 pockets has the edge. But maybe that thinking is how guys get robbed.

Trolling or just don't know any better?

How would you do that?

If you don't know how to break on a barbox, you shouldn't be asking these questions. Unless you plan on not calling fouls on yourself.

I'm back to thinking that you're just regurgitating things that you've heard/read. Way too much like PP.

Historically, this has been thought to be a 50/50 proposition. Is there something so wrong about discussing pool here? I wouldn't expect this sort of backlash, especially from my own cousin!

I would think the guy with only the bottom 2 pockets would be at a disadvantage, but I'll try it when I get back to the hall, probably this weekend. I could see where there would be a lot of safety play involved on both sides by the simple positioning of the cue ball at various points on the table.

who has the advantage?

Very interresting thread! is this for all balls or just the 8ball, anyway its sound like a fun way to play old boring 8ball, i cant believe i been around pool over 30years and never heard of this way to play 8ball, Chris please explain the way this type of 8ball is played and the rules if they are different then regular 8ball, Thank you!

The corner pockets where the balls were racked are called the 'foot pockets' and the two pockets where you break from are called the 'head pockets'...the foot pockets should be the advantage over the other 4 pockets in 9 ball.

(it is an advantage in 8 ball too, IF they have to hit the 'head' ball first)

Best of Luck !

Thank you Jimmy! What a pleasure to receive your advice. I have written down every word of it!

I think his questions are interesting as do a LOT of other members who have boosted the page counts up to 25+/

And I know for a FACT that he has the right to ask any question he wants. There are no dumb questions...only dumb answers.

Rite on Eagle, once again if you dont like a thread dont post in it!

Hmm...

You get the foot pockets and I get the rest.

You break, you don't run out, I'm winning around 80-90% of the time.

Its a proposition I'd make to players who break and run around 10% of the time. Any higher and I'd lose money no doubt.

I don't know how one would break if you have the foot pockets. Slow soft break and you leave a cluster which can be unpredictable when breaking into them. But it does screw the player with 4 pockets as they'd have to get foot pocket side with the white for most shots and running out in that situation would be tough.

You could hit the crap out of the break and risk leaving 2 or more banks in order to run out and with just 2 pockets and 7 opponent balls in play means the chance of your 2 pockets being blocked are high.

In conclusion? Regardless of what pockets I have I'd let the opponent break because a break and run would be tough and unless you play 8 ball, 1 pocket and 14.1 to a high level you won't run out. It also gives me more space to manoeuvre if I get a chance at the table and even if my first shot is a kick from a safe I like my odds.

Are you so sure? I have on good account one of the all-time best players saying that this game is a 50/50 bet. And another of the all-time greats has posted here saying that the man with the foot pockets has the advantage (if breaking the headball).

Can you be certain about your conclusion?

Yes, yes I can.
