Update on Danny Medina

Samm and Marc are currently in Europe, and Melissa is the one setting up the paypal. Falls under one of those not in my control things, but the tournament is in my control :)

I wouldnt wait till Tuesday to get paypal set up. You need one now why its a fresh topic on everyones mind. How bout Samm or Marc, I know Marc has paypal, you may collect a few thousand before Tuesday. Ask Samm or Marc if their paypal can be used, I know they are regulars there in that crowd as well. And very reliable.

Just would hate for you to miss any donations due to someone not being on here next week and forgetting to do it.

Wish you all the best.

Very sorry to hear about Danny's condition. Anyone that ever met him or watched him play should have some cherished memories of a fearless gunslinger with the ability and pool smarts to run off several racks seemingly anytime he pleased. Do any of you remember the night at Table Steaks when he played that set against Archer? I think in 96 or 98, SRO, what a night to be there, thanks to Danny for all the memories, you're the best.
The tourmament, are the number of enteries going to be capped? When this gets beyond ABZ, if it hasn't already, I suspect folks will come out of the wood work to play. Any thought to possibly more than one tourmament at different places?

He has been released to the house and will be receiving Hospice care. He IS in desperate need of $400. asap for pain medication (one month supply) and sadly the family will soon be needing help with the burial. Probably $4,000+

If anyone can do anything to help please send paypal to: melissa@melissalittle.com

in the notes put Danny Medina fund.

Thank you all.

We are still in desperate need of items for the raffle. Anything will help, doesn't necessarily have to be pool related.

Thank you so much for putting it in The Action I really appreciate it.

Danny Medina

Listen up everyone, I truly want to thank everyone who is sending donations to my email account melissa@melissalittle.com - I visited with Danny tonight and he is still in good spirits- ALL of the money will go directly to his daughter Stephanie:-) I usually do not post in the forums as I am used to using Facebook:smile:

If you have any questions please feel free to call me personally or email me... I also had my dad build a little website to generate more donations and it should be up and running by this Tuesday. The address will be www.danny-medina.com

Also just an FYI, Danny asked me to help him because we have been close for many years and I truly want to thank everyone for coming together on a player in need.

And we are still looking for donated items, gift certificates, cues, sports stuff, cases, signed memorabilia, dvds and anything else you can think of that would go well at a raffle and silent auction.

Thanks again we will keep you updated,
Brandie and Melissa

I will donate a 9 pack of assorted Talisman Pro tips that sell for $71 on their website (lists for higher if bought separately). 3-soft; 3-medium; & 3-hard. They come in a cool looking package that looks like a 9-ball rack.

See you Saturday.

Dave

He is now home with in home hospice care. There has been an outpouring of family and well wishers and it is so appreciated, but exhausting. Please feel free to email me Mrs.dickman@gmail.com and I can print them out and pass them along when I bring dinner later. As you can imagine this has created a financial toll on the family and Melissa Little has been generous to set up a site

http://www.danny-medina.com/Welcome.html

to accept donations to help the man who has been a mentor to the industry for years. There is also a tournament on the 5th (see link above) with proceeds going to the family.

In the midst of this chaos there is a ray of light. Danny's youngest grandchild Angela is having her 5th birthday on the 6th. Unfortunately shopping has been impossible at this time. If you know Danny or he has touched your life in some way, please reach out to him. You can call me at 303-558-0647 or email me Mrs.dickman@gmail.com.

It seems like this community is getting smaller by the day. If you know someone that knows Danny or his family, please pass along this info....anything can help in this time of crisis.
Thank you.

First off, let me start by saying thank you to all those that have already donated items or money to Danny's cause. Time is drawing short and we still need more things to raffle and/or auction. I am normally not the person that goes online and begs a bunch of "strangers" for things, but I am basically begging!

I have heard some people saying "Well I didn't like him for such reason" but no matter whether you saw him in a good or bad light Danny Medina made a HUGE effect on the world of pool and deserves in his final days to be respected as such a person.

From the time that I was a little girl, my dad talked about Danny Medina. How he was not only a great hustler in pool but one of the top players in the world. That though he had done some bad in his life (who of us hasn't?) he also did some amazingly wonderful things in his life.

On Saturday Jan 5th I am honored to be running a tournament to celebrate his life, and what he has done for the community as a whole. There is no pool room in this nation that the name Danny Medina is unknown to at least someone. So please, if you are going through a closet, storage space, attic etc over the next couple of days and run across an item that you think may be worth something in a raffle or auction please send it out. If you go to the store and have an extra $10 bucks or something pick up a gift card that we can raffle off.

Again, thank you to all those that have already given and that are making the trek out here to Englewood, Co. for the tournament. Thank you to all those that have donated time for this cause by finding pictures and videos. I really appreciate all of you.

Thankfully yours,
Brandie Rejent

i appreciate your efforts, passion, and concern for Danny and his family. he was one of the greatest 9 ball players ever and few came through Denver to challenge him over the years. Most went home much lighter.
however when the term Hustler is used, I admit I have to laugh. I have to totally disagree with this. he was in fact, one of the worst hustlers I ever saw. the idea of missing on purpose or stalling, just did not come to his mind. i well know as I tried to get him to slow down or back off his opponet on many occasions and it was near impossible for him to do. He simply came to play and was going to try and make everyball on the table, no mater what.
years ago we were in the Pool Hall on Havana when a well known Car dealer walked in one night, walked right up to Danny and challenged him to some $50 eight ball.
This guy was a pretty well known snooker player and had some talent, and, very deep pockets. he knew his way around a pool room having grown up in Detroit and around the Rack in it's hayday.
They were about to begin when Danny said to him," I must tell you my name is Danny Medina"!The guy laughed and said," I do't care who you are and they began.
Danny beat on the guy until he surrendered after several consecutive games.
later i asked why he didn't just slow down a bit and try and keep the guy going. he said, " i don't come to hustle and lay it down, i come to play pool"!
That was just his mentality and the way he was.
I also realize Hustling is a broad term but to some, it is a dirty word.
I never went any where with him that somebody didn't recognize him though.
Again, thanks for what you are trying to do.
I plan to be there on or about the 15th and have some ideas of my own.
