Snake wood is a small log, that is too brittle to be made into veneer with a knife edge splitter. It is really impermeable and couldn't be softened with hot water so it would crack all over as it curled off the knife. Sawing is another possibility but veneer sawing is something that died out 100 years ago and would be really wasteful. As a final consideration, there is a real scarcity of snake wood and there is no demand for the veneer.
I seem to remember seeing a cue picture with recut points but it didn't particularly stand out.
