Which Cue To Buy Under $300

I would add $100 and order a josey. I have had three from a basic with a wrap up to a Cocobolo with Curl inlays all over it, and they all play the same GREAT. If you get one you will not look back they are a great cue and play great.
Given the choices I would say Pechauer.
Have you considered JOSS or perhaps a used custom? There have been some Frey sneakies for that money as well as a number of other very good cues, both big names and small, available here in the forums.
You can get a lot of cue for $300.
I generally don't like to advise people with such questions to add money to their budget. That's a poor strategy and poor advice I think. If everybody did that then nobody would ever buy a cue because there is always something better/more expensive.

I took a chance on a few of these and what I did was increase the length of the pro taper by about 5 inches, by hand with some sandpaper. I love these things. How wrong can you go with 2 shafts and joint protectors, free shipping for under a hundred bucks. I don't think you'll be sorry if you take a chance. :smile:

It pains me to write the name, "Dale Perry", but those Cues he
makes for under $200 are pretty damned nice and play nice, too.

LOL, truth be known, I bought 3 of these type cues. One I love the most was curly maple with 6 snakewood inlays. I bought the other two just for the extra shafts.
You can send him a message on ebay also and request a 2 or 3 oz weight, I think that may set you back 4 bucks. But, you can place the cue on a scale and cut back the weight with a hacksaw till you get what you want. That's what I did.
I hesitate to say outstanding, but, real nice. There may be a small ding or slight finish chip somewhere, ever so slight. But we're talking 75 bucks here, 2 shafts, joint protectors and shipping. :smile:
A couple of my buddies just pick those up. I was very surpirsed on how well they played. To be honest Im about to order one as well. For that price you cant go wrong. But for 300 bucks the options are plenty that for sure.

Well I am looking for an american made cue that might have a different hit than my Meucci or Pechauer which both have different hits. I was thinking Joss since they have a different joint and are US made. Was also thinking prulhiere SP with leather wrap, but hit could be like a McDermott I have already tried.

Prulhiere has some real nice prices. He does say that he took his original inspiration from McDermott so it may be similar but from what I read it isn't the same as McD. Something to consider.

The Dale Perry cues on ebay are damn good playing cues. His inlay materials are mostly resins but u can get them for under $200 and specify shaft diameter. When i first picked up the game again after a long layoff i bought one and shot it for a year before picking up a new custom. They do play really, really well. I had a top player in the area shoot a night with it and he was really suprised how well it played. Hit is subjective to the player bit i think these cues play pretty darn good. Dont forget Mr. Perry was at one time building really nice customs before he started doing the ebay cues. He knows how to build a cue!

When I first bought the Viking G-01 -- it was on a lark, because I was looking for an inexpensive wrapless cue to keep as sort of a "bang around" player. I was stunned with the quality of this cue.
The Viking Quick-Release joint is somewhat proprietary, but because of the popularity of the Viking brand, many after-market shafts (e.g. Tiger, OB) offer them with the Viking QR joint.
Check 'em out -- couldn't hurt!

If your looking for something a little different, American made, handmade American made that is. Just talked to Scott Erwin yesterday and his first number of cues are getting ready to ship next week since his father passed away. Scott has done a lot of cue making and I will have a couple coming my way. The black knight series is as solid of a cue that your going to find and will be around that $ 250.00 shipped price. I also agree with chopdoc, Joss is a great alternative.

Stay away from production cues, if u r ok with production...go with a Schon...best hit for the money, hands down.
But I'd go with a custom or a custom sneaky if I had to buy one today to be my player for around 300...I like the thought of that Omen, or that murrell sneaky...great choices...there were some mosses floating around as well in that price range-go used-save money, IMO.
