Help me make my Team Captain's B-day/Christmas brighter?

I'm not suggesting that either of the two post made recently.. yours and someone else's looking to help a female teammate, I believe.. are anything other than genuine. What worries me is someone using the same approach who is NOT genuine. Believe me, I could make a post that would have half the forum with tears in their eyes if I wished, but I am not in need, nor would I ever take advantage of the generosity of the AZ community. It's those that would, and do, take advantage at every opportunity they find, that worry me.

Chris

I understand completely, and am making the offer to anyone donating that I will pay in advance for the shipping costs associated, so I'm willing to be the one that takes a loss on offers that never get shipped. I have renewed faith in the human spirit and am willing to put that faith to the test! Just send me your paypal address and a shipping estimate, and it will be done.

Thank you again to everyone and offers are still being accepted as well, as the coup de grace would be to pair that cue with a ld shaft. Anyone with one that's not being used, would be appreciated highly. Love and peace and goodwill to all of you.

You guys are awesome! I would sure would love to see some pictures or video of these folks getting their gifts.

There will be pictures and if he's ok with posting the video which I'm sure he would be, I'll try to take some very amateur video with my phone.

Even after having a night to process what's taking place, I'm still so moved by the generosity of the people on this board. Thank you all so much.

Your contributions are going to make this a Christmas/birthday that he'll never forget, I've never been more sure of anything in my life.

i've got a extra tip tool. its basically new. test hit only :)
PM your address.
if he can't use it he can pay it forward to someone else.

He is also a member on here, and I didn't want to release too much info to keep it a surprise, but this is a guy that lost his job 4 months ago, lost his father 2 months ago He just picked up and got a seasonal retail job (which is definitely below his credentials) to basically pay for his evil ex's alimony and child support. !

I think the surprise part might have been ruined. Hopefully he's not reading your thread.

He's not the most active member on this site, but even if he knows it won't change how much it means to him.

besides the fact that there is nothing for sale in your thread and you are simply appealing to the generosity of az'ers to give things like cues and cases to your team captain because he's nice and it's his birthday soon, maybe you can at least try to stay with the rule stating bumping only once every 48 hours.

this from a man who is trying to gear up a midget in another thread.

maybe even better, move the thread to the main forum where it belongs.

and for those who were not actually able to figure it out, yes mia - this means you, the midget thread is a tongue-in-cheek commentary rergarding mindless imbecilic prattle.

nothing more - nothing less.

thanks.

best,
brian kc

Does responding to someone else's post qualify as a bump? I wasn't trying to bump the thread I was just responding to other posts.

As it stands currently:
Confirmation of item shipped from
21 Gambler
Kot_Bigemot
HalfDeadEd

I have received confirmation of intent to send from
Webb's Billiards

Unfortunately had to withdraw donation offer

Thank you so much. With all the tragedies going on currently it's nice to be reminded that there is good in this world. I wish a very heartfelt and grateful happy holidays to all of you and your loved ones.

Break cue donation was retracted anyone else have one they're not using?

Unfortunately the offer for a break cue had to be withdrawn due to financial reasons. Is there anyone out there that could provide one? Maybe the jump/break that was offered earlier perhaps? Thank you all again so much and may whatever God you believe in bless you all.

Happy Holidays.:)

oh for crying out loud, stop begging for freebies for your team captain's birthday.

it's not a hardship case, it's a "nice guy" who has a birthday coming up and you want to do something nice in return, right? so go do something nice besides panhandle the good-hearted people here on az.

here's an idea: How about you and your team mates who have benefited from this man's kindness; why don't you all reach in your pockets and show a little appreciation? crazy concept, right?

what's next, your wedding anniversary and you want az to get your wife some flowers?

the line is not necessarily that fine between kindness, charity and being duped.

I wish my fellow az'ers, who obviously have big hearts, could take a couple of steps back and see that maybe it's just a tiny bit ridiculous for a guy to come on here in his latest post, after being offered all sorts of free gear including a playing cue, case, glove, tip tool, chalk, etc., and now he's taking another pass at you because an offer for a break/jump cue has been withdrawn.

A BRAND NEW jump/break cue can be had for $50 or $60. how many people are there on your team?

don't get me wrong guys, I have an awful lot of holiday spirit and charity in me. however, I don't think you would have to look very far before finding many in more need. you know, genuine charity cases - people with no homes or food still because of hurricane Sandy, families in Newtown, CT, others who have fallen on *real* hard times, maybe those visited by a terrible illness; that sort of thing.

A level of need even moreso than the stay-at-home-dad who posted or my midget in need of a cue extension.

I can't believe this remains in the wanted/for sale section.

maybe they should start a new section on az for panhandling.

an fyi: the op who is asking for your 'gifts' has a grand total of 65 posts on az at this time, 14 of which are right here in this thread. not exactly what I would call a prolific contributor.

happy holidays.

best,
brian kc

It might surprise you if you knew the level of charity I'm familiar with. And the concept of paying it forward is not lost on me either.

I think it's just that I may be a little more selective about what I consider worth donating to.

What the op of this thread is presenting is no charity yet he is seeking charitable contributions. Playing on the generosity of az'ers, of which there is plenty.

It would have been better of him and his team mates to show their captain some love directly by ponying up a little of their own dough to get the gear they think he deserves - wouldn't they feel a little prouder doing it that way?

Some folks, however, have learned to panhandle and beg since it requires much less effort and it costs them nothing.

There's no hardship here. A pool league team captain who is reportedly a nice guy is having a birthday next week. We're supposed to send him free gifts, why?

I suggest anyone with some extra pool gear that they are looking to get rid of, please reconsider and think about the ways you can make a meaningful difference. Red Cross, Hurricane Sandy Fund, Newtown, CT Families, etc., etc.

And for the record, the fact that you have just 32 posts thus far on az makes no difference to me. You can have my complete respect with just one post.

My posting the 'midget in need' thread was simply meant to underscore just how ridiculous it is, imo, for the op to appeal to the kindness of members here to give their stuff away to him so he could presumably regift these items to his team captain as a birthday present.

The op putting up this thread, while he may think it is a nice gesture, also imo, demonstrates a real lack of shame or pride.

And it's posted in the wrong forum.

best,
brian kc

We've come up with some money which will be used to pay back those that were generous for their shipping costs and hopeful to be able to add a little more to it. We're a really young team with a lot of students so we can't afford much is why I reached out. I'm sorry that you have lost touch with the spirit of Christmas, but it's nice to know that's not the case for everyone. The other people on this site have opened my eyes to that and I'm very appreciative for it.

To address your point about not posting much, I haven't been a member for that long and I exchange most communication via pm.

And lastly to address my pride, I am a proud person that reached out as a last resort putting my pride aside so that my captain could experience something other than the annual disappointment that he's gotten accustomed to. If I won the lottery I would get him all of the stuff myself and you would never have known about it.

Good Post KC.... if everyone on their team reached into their own pockets and pulled out a double sawbuck, they could buy him a nice new Schmelke cue....

What exactly is the team doing for him??

1st charitable donation gift was received today. A partial box of blue master chalk and the tip tool. This tip tool is awesome! Going to wrap them up today! Thank you HalfDeadEd! Last to respond was 1st to mail! He also flat out refused the shipping compensation! Quality tip tool from a quality person.

Thank you so much sir.

3/8 x 10 or 3/8 x 11 shaft needed

We haven't received any of the cue donations yet, but I have received 2 butts. Is there anyone out there that has a cheap 3/8 x 11 or 3/8 x 10 shaft that's straight?

Or perhaps someone is looking for a butt with this type of joint that would be up for trading for a playing or break cue?

How'd things go?

the op's captain's birthday was Dec 23rd.

Today is Jan 5th.

you weren't expecting pictures this fast, were you?

they're probably still being developed.

Can't believe what gall this guy has. Pool is a game, and he's essentially asking others to help give his captain new toys. Not food cause he's hungry, or money to help pay bills, but cues and cases so he can go out and play league two or three times a week.

Unbelievable.
