Pool America Sports Begins

Jim,

Thanks for putting out the first match (Sharks versus Players). This should be good, and I recall it was very intense.

Many players on the Sharks are well known like Tony Robles, Jennifer Barretta, Zion Zvi, Borana Andoni, and Sean Alaska Morgan. Some have graced magazine covers, and have been discussed on AZ.

On the opposing team, other than Earl Strickland, can you tell us a little about the Players? The other team members, Jorge Rodriguez, Mhet Vergara have been playing since Chelsea, Masters, and now Steinway era. To me, true to being an action player, seem to have kept a low key profile, avoiding the limelight, and just letting their game on the table speak for them. I could be wrong, but this may be the first time some of these players have been showcased on video.

Checked site. Way too much stuff on page. Question, WHAT is pool america? is it part of bonus ball? looks like just a bunch of new york based players.

Its not bonus ball. There are no special ballsets required, nor new game rules to learn. Two teams playing each other in any combination of 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, and a rack of straight pool in a race to win 12 games. Only restriction is no one player win more than 3 games.

Not Bonus Ball

This is as far away from Bonus Ball as you can get. Two teams with players that actually play in the city they usually play in, and they play in poolrooms that are in that city. 8,9,10 ball and straight pool are played as a choice for each game in a race to 12.

These are the two New York teams. We are forming a Philadelphia team and would like a team from Boston, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Newark, and Washington for this region. A Chicago team is being talked about and also one from South Carolina. It will take some time, but it is underway.

This is great stuff Jim. I know it's gonna be a long term effort but this is an incredible concept.

Thanks

Thanks very much. I think that one of the biggest hurdles for me is to get players to realize that this is not something for me, but it is their system that is for them and I am just a vehicle for them to get what they need.

Here is the link to Jennifer Barretta talking about Pool America Sports, which is in the website.

To access the first video, just click on VIDEOS ON DEMAND on the top of the website, and then click on ON DEMAND.

Thanks,

Great matches

Jim,

I watched all the games last night through the Pool America web site. The final product is really top notch.

OK, but it is really hard for a first-time visitor to figure that out. If you want this to succeed you will need to make your website a lot better. When I went to the team links the first image on each page was "404 - file not found". Also, on one page I found the text
Fusce dapibus, tellus ac cursus commodo, tortor mauris condimentum nibh, ut fermentum massa justo sit amet risus. Cum sociis natoque penatibus et magnis dis parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus.
which doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Unfortunately, as Bob pointed out, sometimes the general public needs to be spoon-fed to understand things clearly, so keep it simple.
(Not that your video/interview didn't do that, but I suspect that not everyone has seen it yet either...)

Keep up the good work Jim

Thanks

Sorry,
I couldn't find the 404 things on the team pages, and I don't know where the filler copy is. If you send me a link to it, I will fix that.

Sorry, I just wrote the idea in from as many different angles as I could. If you can tell me which article is too complicated or confusing, I will try to deal with it.

Thanks,
Jim

Site seems new

I guess the site is relatively new. Maybe in the beginning, since people are unfamiliar with it all you can have the site simplified so that all you can do is watch the match. I think it makes sense for people to be able to begin watching within 30 seconds of landing at poolamericasports.com

Over time, as players and the events get more popular, then maybe people would be interested in reading their bios.

That is probably true, but why would people really want to watch anything unless they realize that this whole thing is made for them. I thought that explaining that up front would make the $9.95 go down a bit easier. All other pool that you watch is ripping off the players. Anything that is recorded at a tournament and then put up for you to watch for nothing is taking from the players. This is giving almost all of the money back to the players so they can have a life, and a future pro league. I want to make that very clear. This is not something to make me money, it is something to make pool players money. If it dies, it will be because you, the players, want it to die. Just don't buy the video. But on a positive note, if you think it is worth investing in an idea that could be good for your future, it could turn into a great thing.

Thanks,
Jim

I can see myself spending as much time on the new website as much as on AZ or Jimbo's army. Its not a PPV website, I think Jim is trying to envision more.

I saw the match, can't believe how close the final score, and how serious the players were.

If you click on one of the team links at the very top of your home page, there will be an image missing from it. For some browsers the error will be more important. Click: NY Sharks --> New York Sharks (the smaller one, just above the text "The New York Sharks are based in New York out of Amsterdam Billiards."

In general, for a new web site you have to click on all the links on all the pages. That is tedious and time consuming for complicated sites, but it really needs to be done.

As for the greeking (actually Latin, as noted) click on "Why Pool America Sports Can Work" on your home page. As with the other problem, this is discovered by clicking through the entire page tree.

One way to find the greeking is to go to Google advanced search and put in a word or phrase that's known to appear such as "Fusce dapibus" (no relation to the Fusco brothers) and also specify your domain: site: poolamericasports.com You will see a bunch of problem pages.

As for the complexity.... As soon as someone gets to your home page, they have to see immediately what you're up to. Is your main purpose to provide PPV matches of teams identified with cities? I think that needs to be stated right away. "Great teams of top players, three great games, weekly matches. See Earl Strickland lead the NY Sharks."

I find the rotating picture on the home page distracting.

At least on my screen and with my browser many of your title fonts look compressed and uneven.

The K2 Comments down the left side of the home page are from the Louis Vuitton Store. That's broken.

Hey Jim,
Just a suggestion but why not post a 10 minute "hightlight" sample video on the front page of your site. This way people will get an idea of what your trying to sell. Az'ers may understand what your trying to do but other potential customers may not. Give them something they can click on and watch for a couple of minutes. It's a video generation.....most people aren't going to take the time to read everything you wrote on the site. I personally hope it's a big sucess.

Yeah no doubt, I don't want to pay 10$ to watch something I'm not familiar with at all. Need a fan base 1st IMO

Duplicate post AGAIN, mods.

This is happening (again) without my doing it.

fyi,
