Too bad. Promoting standard rule sets is good for the game. Letting bars and halls negotiate rules fractures the game imo.

I let you be the Johnny Appleseed of pool rules. Go forth.

I have again found myself in a game of one pocket, and again the game was the subject of controversy.
I am leading 7-4. My opponent has just scratched. The ball I wish to hit is approximately 5% past the headstring, and 95% behind it. Just a sliver of the ball is over the line.
I suggest that I be able to shoot this ball because we had not established any rules regarding it before the game started. After lobbying with a few others, I am not allowed to shoot the ball. I even offer to flip for it, but no deal.
And would you believe, my opponent INTENTIONALLY spotted the 9-ball, because he thought it would give me the most difficulty (of course I made it).
So, do you think my case has any merit?
No, the base of the object ball has to be over the head string. Atleast thats the way I've always played........for the last 50+ years.

John, if the base of an object ball is on the head string and the shooter has ball in hand behind the head string, that object ball is playable (under WPA rules).
Truthfully I know that I had the short end of this argument, but it adds some excitement to the game if the rules are challenged once in a while.
Man, thats a tough one. Dont know anything about WPA rules never used them. Besides that, in 1P you dont get ball in hand.

How is this an "important rule dispute?" There's an unambiguous rule on point that was stated by pretty much everyone right away. The only dispute is whether you follow the world standardized rules or you make shit up as you go along.
It's the second one. ChrisBanks goes by the second one.
As mentioned before, I would have shot the ball on the spot even if allowed to shoot the ball on the line. Also, you make no mention of the fact that I was sharked by having the 9-ball intentionally spotted because it was thought to be the ball I would have the most trouble with.
And I am not too appreciative of the red rep given by you for no reason.
The fact that you would have shot the spot shot even if they would have given in almost makes it worse!
You stopped everything in the game, wasted other people's time, even proposed a coin flip knowing full well you were just being difficult.
Just like the way you are on here. So it sounds like the way most of the posters on here feel about you is probably how the people in the pool hall feel only they probably hold it in more since they are in person. Hope you learn to change bro.
You won't address that issue, but you are quick to put me in a negative light any way you can.
You fail to mention that I was sharked on the same shot. You won't address that issue, but you are quick to put me in a negative light any way you can.
Who cares what ball he spots? Just pull out your calculator and split the pocket!
A calculator would be of no use on that type of shot.
Now you're just being silly.
