i feel the enjoyment comes from crushing the oppponenet...and one has to work to position hizzelf to be able to do so.

Is anyone else horribly saddened to find that Luxury is not the pyt in his avatar? And to think...I was going to interview her for my first affair.

I have always had a video of me shooting pool in my signature. Had I used a video of her you would be much much more devastated right now.

What do you have against me? So much so that you are cheering against me?

It is certainly amusing to see an instance where you, the guy who spouts off about "Earl this, Earl that", are completely wrong about something Earl said, to one of our forum members. That is ironic, and hilarious.

If you can't enjoy what you are doing, why are you doing it? Why put yourself through it, why spend all the money that we all spend, why spend all the time... why would you do it, if you weren't having fun?

You have made a lot of "interesting" statements in your various threads. I believe this might have topped them all. Again, it makes you look like a troll, doing all of this to get a rise out of people.

'Or' is the most dangerous word in language; it creates conflict where there need not be any.

I also think you are not 29 years old as you say you are judging by your posts. It's almost like you/pangit/pocketpoint/thethaiger/english etc. are all very simliar attention seeking individuals who like to stir pots, avoid the important questions asked, and continually make threads that make people want to chew their arms off while responding to you...I guess you got the attention part down pat.

In my estimation, pool should be primarily work. Surely you may encounter short instances of fun along the way, but the overall experience should be classified as work.

Look at the faces of Dynamite, The Kaiser, The Hitman, The Pearl, The South Dakota Kid, The Fireball, The Scorpion, The Terminator, and you tell me if it looks like they are having fun to you.

Don't mistake a persons focus for unhappiness. In a sense they are at work but I doubt they look at it as a 9 to 5 grind. It's like Jim Koch says, do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.

But why do I get the feeling this will go right over your head?

I definitely feel like is work. I actually pay myself 100 dollars a week play pool. I make myself keep up with it every dollar I gamble. I actually document every minute that play pool whether it be to practice Or playing. I am afraid Then I'm going to get fired For having too much fun... I do make employee of the month every month though...

Wow! I feel like I'm in the minority here.

I play pool to relax from the daily grind of life.

Oh and to answer another thread in here... Losing sucks! (but I'm good at it)

DUH! To them it is work. Pool is their job.

To me it is still fun.

For the amatuer, pool should be fun. Each experience should be enjoyable.
For the professional, pool should be work. A serious endeavor.

Fun, to me, is something that is earned. There is nothing more fun that getting into the "zone" in whatever you are doing or playing. The zone represents total concentration and is an extraordinarily pleasurable experience. Idly watching a movie can't get the job done. It must be earned, or worked at. So, pool requires great effort, or "work" as you call it, but it is fun and pleasurable to do.

This may be, but I garantee that the majority of them first picked up a cue because they enjoyed it. I believe Luxury's Earl comments, btw,.

When your in, The Zone, your doing all the work that required to play at a high level. It's so much fun, at that point, you don't even realize it's work.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: "If your doing the hard work it takes to play at a high level, it's fun." One takes care of the other.

You can take your fun seriously, which is not the same thing as work.

Work has connotations of a chore you would rather avoid, but it's necessary to pay the bills. Which might be true for some pros. I remember hearing one say (deadpan) "I don't even like pool. I'm just good at it."

"Should pool be fun or work?"

Yes.

Now that that's out of the way, I think it's common to confuse the words "fun" and "enjoyable". Fun is a wild post-prom party. Enjoyable is sitting down with a good book.

With the right mindset, pool is enjoyable work.

both

I suppose it has been both fun and work at times. Right now it is work as I am trying to work on mechanics (which has turned my game into mush at the moment) but I am in agreement that when I am playing at the level I am capable of playing at, there is not much that I enjoy more.
