How do you guys feel about splitting in tournaments? I get kinda bummed if I spend a few hours watching a streamed tourney, only to have the last two split :embarrassed2: But on the other hand it can be a wise decision financially for road players.
American pool players aren't gunslingers, they're socialists.
Hence the repeated socialistic threads demanding somebody, anybody, Money Me, by subsidizing where no discernible value is offered.
Splitting pots is just one more indication of the lack of value offered by the sport to prospective angels - The Fix Is In.
If there are paying spectators, or outside calcutta investors, splitting is wrong.
If, like most weekly tournaments, you two and the guy running it are the only ones left in the room, who cares?
I guess I'm saying it's situational and common sense.

So....if I find myself in the finals of a tournament....lets say its a true double elimination and I am on the loser's side. The person in the hot seat is either my speed or possibly a ball better.
2k to 1st place
1k to 2nd place
I have to beat this person twice and I'm 50% at BEST on each set......
Taking the 500 is actually positive EV in this situation.....I'd say that would be quite the opposite to socialism.....
However, IMO any splitting should be done in private after the tournament. 2 players can agree to split, but I feel as though the tournament should be played out and the 2 individuals take care of their agreement between each other behind closed doors.
If there is official betting or a calcutta, obviously splitting should not be allowed in any form.
I was playing a handicapped event recently and got to the final. Found out that I had to give more spot than I had before to an opponent who had already beat me earlier in the event.
Yeah, I wanna split.
