Coos Cues
I own several cues that I have played with each a considerable amount. I have noticed that some cues seem to just be tougher than others. I admit I do not own cues to look at or resell. I use them. But I think it's fair to think no one cue gets rougher treatment than another over time. One of my custom cues that I play with a lot has almost zero dings on it while another one from a different cue maker has quite a few depressions etc in the outer finish here and there. I feel I treat them equally. Any idea what the difference is? Is there a finish that is so much more durable than others to account for this? If so why doesn't everyone use it?

Thanks,

JC

Finish could make a difference such as auto clear VS cyano (superglue). Probably what would make even more difference is the hardness of the wood the cue is made out of, some woods are a lot harder than others. Some pieces of the same wood are harder as well.

Some cue makers use epoxy as the sealer and then put polyurathene on top of that. The epoxy is pretty tough and helps in ding resistance. The poly on top helps with the shine as the epoxy does not seem to polish as well. Of course it takes twice as long to finish a cue.

Thanks for the answers

My observations have led me to this conclusion.

Whatever Jack Madden is doing should be emulated.
