My Lee Brett lesson experience

I took a lesson with Lee Brett this weekend and couldn't be happier.

Being a relative beginner I was wondering if working with Lee would be a good move. I found him an easy guy to be around and he instilled some fundamentals for me that paid off immediately. He was very patient and explained things thoroughly. He also left me with 4 pages of notes and tips to work on.

After the lessons , I played a local guy who usually beat me pretty handily. He still got the upper hand by a few games but mentioned how good I was shooting. Definitely would take another lesson if he comes back in town.

By the way , I think this has been mentioned before but watching Lee shoot, his power and accuracy are amazing! Also was surprised how long he bridges from cue ball, I was a very short bridge user and that was one of the things Lee fixed that right away.

Thanks again Lee!

Call me Captain Obvious? Title a thread "My Lee Brett Lesson Experience" with an avatar of some wanna be middle weight Schwarzenegger in a hip hung marble sack? Let the jokes begin.

Tell me that's some pic off the web....and not your real pic...Please.

Ha! It's my goal to be the best built pool player lol

After seeing some of the physiques in the pool room I should have an endless supply of clients don't you agree?

Very cool, I wouldn't mind lessons with Lee myself if I ever get the chance
Avatars got to go though, I'd rep you if you weren't in a speedo lol

Thanks for sharing it.

Not that it really maters, but did he give you a reason for lenghtening your bridge distance?

Regards to You &

Yes, with the short bridge I was not able to get through the ball and was basically poking at the ball.

With the longer bridge and elbow drop I was able to follow through completely.

Did you work on the fundamentals only, or also on the position play and mental aspects of the game?

Glad for you, a good instructor in the beginning of your pool journey is the best way to spend money.

A little on the mental aspect. We talked about competitions I have done and how to relate that to the game.

No position play, that is a little ahead of me yet. My fundamentals were in need of a lot of work and he really went through all the reasons why. So we spent alot of time on various bridges ( on the rail is a toughy for me as is over a ball ) and stance.

For example, he explained balance in my stance and when I made the change I felt much better.

Thanks Frank,

I understand.

It gave you more room for more stroke. Also, IMHO it allows for a longer sight line as well.

For what it's worth, if ever I were to sign up for a lesson, I'd only do it with a 'player'. That's just my preference.

Thanks again for the reply.

What distance is a short bridge, and what is a long one?

For the draw shots, what type of bridge Lee advised? Do you use a closed bridge?

Frank,

IMHO it is never too early to consider position, even if it is just making a decision on whether to hit the cue ball high, center, or low.

Again IMHO you should always have an intended next shot & try to get the best position you can for that next shot while still making the current one.

Agian, JMHO.

Good Luck on your Journey to Playing Better Pool &

Thanks English. True about the sight line now that you mentioned that. I agree and I do have an intended next shot. Unfortunately it doesnt always work out the way I planned. ( well for now ) He did show me a few drills to practice on to help with that.

His recommended bridge is usually 6-10 inches where I would say I was closer to 4.

Glad you liked it Frank. Next time I come down to breakers I will let you know. I will also let you know the next time he is coming in.

Frank...thanks for this thread. Lee's DVD helped me. I'm envious that you were able to get the one on one time.

Great meeting you Frank, good luck with your game.

When i am in the area on my next trip i will let you know, and we can then evaluate your game and start working on the more advanced stuff to help you go to the next level.

If you think Lee Brett isn't a player, you're crazy! He's not only a player, but an excellent instructor. If you get the opportunity, spend some time with him...it was well worth it.

Mr. Brett,

Text is a pain sometimes.

No, I was agreeing with Frank's decision to take lesson's from one that IS a player. If I were to ever take a pool lesson I would only take one from a current or former player. I've been on AZB since June 2012 & the only thing I have gotten that I can take to the table to improve my game has come from CJ Wiley & Fran Crimi. Mr. Shuffett's CTE is on a shelf for now.

Sorry, for being vague.

Was Lee at Breakers in Pittsburgh? If so, I'm sorry I missed him and hope to schedule a session next time he's in town!
