A great day of pool, pizza and cool people

What do you get when you mix 12 azers, 4 gold crowns, cold beverages and Hot Pizzza? A great F@(kIng time.

Highlights : Chicago RJ and kobachi won the tournament.

Nicest cues: Chicago RJ , kobachi quesports in a 3 way tie

Farthest traveled: tommylee 90 minuets

Bangger award: a tie between myself and tommylee. (we have no business on 9ftrs but had a hell of a time)

special thanks to Quesports and DMGwalsh who got the hook up with John and John From the Shoes

And of course John Lavin from Red Shoes Billiards . we played from 11 am to 7 pm for $10 a man. A great deal in a great place.

special note, one of Mr Walsh's friends showed up and played with us. Bob is his name and he shoots with a Gus Szamboti that has had plenty of wars on it . He is the original owner. Got it straight from Gus.

Well until the next time, just let it be know that everyone was cool as hell and we just played and played and played. I almost forgot..... A special thanks to MR. BOND who showed up with a very special gift for all who attended.

We all agreed to do it again. This time it will be on the North Side of Chicago so if any cheese heads want to come down, your more than welcome.

To all who attended , Thanks again for your company Ill see you at the next one.

Good times...

BIG Thanks to J-FLO (John) for organizing the first AZB Chicagoland meet and greet, it was a lot of fun. We had a few drinks, shot some stick, had a mini tourney, talked cues and pool stuff, ate some good pizza, but mostly we learned a little bit more about each other that you just can't get from behind the keyboard.

Everybody was cool, and the scotch doubles tourney went smooth. Also big thanks to John Lavin and John Z. for being such gracious hosts at Red Shoes.

Special thanks to a few people from me personally:

John (J FLO) for taking all the time, putting in all the keyboard time, organizing this, BIG THANKS!

Dave "Mr. Bond" the Chicago Billiard Museum, fountain of all billiard info, for very special gifts he presented to us all, very cool gesture.

Bob Cozolino (I know I massacred your last name)...for letting me take a few shots with his 60" Gus Zamboti, my first time shooting with a Gus, I made three shots, and can now say, I've never missed shooting with a Gus ...Awesome cue.

Dennis Walsh, the 14.1 ambassador, great to finally meet you and thanks for your generous offering, dvds I can't wait to dive in to.

Here's a group pic of all of us:

Sorry can't remember all of your first names:

Front row: BUGZ, Bob C. (holding that GUS Z!), DGM Walsh, Jeff S. (Dogginda9), RJ (ChicagoRJ) Me (Kobachi), John C. (Crawf i think),

Back row: Dan S. (Q-Sports), Tommy Lee, D. Bond (Mr.Bond) and John F. (J-FLO)

Everybody stay happy and healthy until next time

Kevin

PS....Freddie the Beard was in attendance, and I'm sorry I didn't get you in the picture. Can't wait for the new book!

AZ Meetup at Red Shoes!

Thanks to J-Flo for all his efforts in putting the gathering of AZ members together yesterday at Red Shoes. I got to see some old friends and to make some new ones as well which is what an event like this is really about. Thanks also to John Lavin and Red Shoes for being gracious hosts. We all had some fun with a blind draw scotch doubles 8 ball event which got us all playing and competing at a game we all love. All in all I think everyone had a great time, I know I did. Finally I want to Thank all the AZers that made the day enjoyable!

No worries Kid.... we'll get them next time. Just remember one thing, and one thing only..... stay down on your shots. You'll see some big improvement in your game !!!!

Ok, someone asked what the actual "cues" were that Jflo highliged as best in class at Red Shoes...

Well, cuesports had a beautiful custom Kikel with lots of ivory, I mean lots.
Kobachi had a 20 year (near mint condition) Schon limited edition "skull cue". I was shooting with my completely refinised Willie Hoppe with matching OB shaft.

Yeah those were really nice cues! Yeah cuesports cue was loaded for sure. It was cool to see a couple of old cues and nice customs in person. People are right you can take pictures all you want but they do the cues noooo justice, amazing pieces of work

I took pics with my phone but they didnt come out good at all. Don't do the cues justice. Will bring camera next time.

The time has come

My turn to really assess the situation that went down on the 23rd. I Was always told to open up with a joke so here it is...the guys that didn't show up stayed home because they were scared of my game*rimshot*. I joined this board because I love playing pool. I say playing pool instead of shooting because you don't shoot basketball and you don't shoot golf. It's just appropriate. Anyway J-Flo sent me a message after the original thread went out and asked me to come out. That was pretty much my welcome moment where I started to feel comfortable posting. We all bullshitted on the thread and I kept the conversation up so it would stay atop as I felt it was pretty important. I had no idea what I was in for! I made the 90 min drive out to redshoes and damn it was worth it. I showed up maybe 4 or 5 guys there I got a tray of balls and just started shooting. J came up and asked me to shoot a bit and he was good...he said he's ok but I caught him jumping when I was on another table lol. He then told me to play dan(cuesports) so I did...not to offend anyone but that's the best game I've seen in my life!!! Smooth solid finesse I mean it was all around great! Dmgwalsh is a 14.1 player who got me a game with his friend. Dennis I can't thank you enough I mean my first match the guy terry was polite, let me learn and helped me out. I couldn't ask for more. After I got whooped 100-30 lol the scotch doubles started. I got paired up with rj(chicagorj). Great guy! Nice cue lo, but it was a reflection on him. He was a gentlemen a good teacher and all around a pleasure to meet. I think his personality made his cue that much nicer. I'd also like to thank mr.bond who I only know as big b but his user name is mr bond. The picture is awesome(more so after I found out who it was, sorry) thanks to Dennis's friends for explaining and telling the story which Ill post in the 14.1 section. You guys were awesome next time I'm getting a hotel room so we can party all night! Btw just so you guys know tonight at free pool I had the table for 7 games straight! Thanks for the tips!!! RJ KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN!!!

You guys were all great..."Thanks" for coming....you are always welcome in my place. I look forward to seeing you again.

Thanks again John and JFlo

It was very cool meeting everyone in person.
I shot like a blind man missing nine fingers, but it was fun nonetheless.

my favorite part was the meeting in the conference room:

And taking a photo with everyone:

J-Flo...Sounds like you guys had a great day together at Red Shoes! I am sorry I could not make it, but I was impressed that I had worked with, over the years, almost half the people in the group shot (which hopefully helped with some of the great play that likely stood out! LOL). I would have liked to meet you, Mr. Bond, and the others that I haven't yet met! I will try to make the next one!

Not sure others have noticed but look closely at the two cues in the picture in post #222 the one on the right is a standard 58" cue, the one on the left is a 62" all original Gus Szamboti! Bob bought it himself from Gus. So no matter what anyone tells you you don't have to be a tall man to play with a longer cue. Bob plays pretty damned strong with that ol Gus!! Pretty damn cool cue IMO!
