Dennis Wins - has this been done before?

Looks like SVB beat Orcollo again in the finals ("again" meaning SVB also beat him in the hot-seat match) to win the 2013 US Bar Table 9-Ball Championship.

Yes and Dennis beat him in 10 ball. They are carving up the world and everything in it.

Wasn't Shane's B&R percentage in the last TAR over 50%?

Either way, whoever stays at the table the longest will probably be the winner. These guys are both run-out machines, and Dennis' 10-Ball break won't be an excuse, this guy knows how to get shape off the break.

It only makes sense that these two play in the next TAR, I personally think this matchup would have the highest viewership to date.

I think Dennis ran the set out on Jayson Shaw at the Swanee tournament. (or at least put a 6 on him) in the finals.

In the finals, Dennis won games #1-3, 6-12, and 14, to win by a score of 11-3. Games 7 through 12 were a 6-pack.

Yes

No, Chang Jun Lin and Yang Chin Shun play just as good if not better.

Yang, Wu, Chao and Chang have also been to USA to try their luck in the American tournaments and never even came close to winning any tournament they joined in. They hardly made a dent. Pinoys on the other hand have been successful not only in Asia but anywhere they go. That is the main difference between the Filipinos and the other top asian players. Kudos to Dennis Orcullo right now who I think have even gotten better. If Yang and Dennis face each other right now, I think Dennis would win.

I've been to pro events where they don't even announce the players

t sounds like I'm hearing everybody say that only Dennis can do this or that he is the only one that can run out over and over...., again the American players just dont want it bad enough to put in the work.

This American guy named Corey Deuel was doing this soft break thing about 10 years ago and he was very successful , this bothered people and promoters started specifying that a certain amount of balls had to pass the side pockets towards the head rail.

Nobody had worked as hard as Corey at breaking . Corey seemed to become discouraged and his game fell off .

I can't speak for all the American pros, however, there's a few that I've talked to that agree, 9 Ball has been ruined. It's just too easy and some of us play more for the challenge than the money. I know it's a "shock", but it's true. Short races with a format of a "rack running contest" is like playing on a bar table used to be.....boring.

I'm not taking anything away from Dennis and Shane because they would will be on top because they work harder than anyone else. Shane and Dennis both practice an average of 6-8 hours a day. They really want to win plus Dennis is "encouraged" by his backers at home to treat pool in the most serious way possible. Again, I think hard work should be rewarded.

I would like the game made more difficult again, NOT to see different players win, because it would basically be the same ones in the top 5.

My reasons are selfish.....I hate playing "rack running contests" because to me the game is much more than that. I've played and gambled against the very best players in the world and I really like a challenge. Pool's not a challenge right now, and it's hard to get excited about it and pattern racking, magical racks, soft breaking, gaff equipment, and fast, easy conditions make it worse, not better.

I believe if the game of pool could talk it would agree with what I'm saying, and I'm positive the greatest players would also agree. I've been to pro events where they don't even announce the players that are getting ready to play. This is the ultimate in disrespect to the players and the game. 'The Game is the Teacher' CJ Wiley

Yeah I know, I watched it.

9-ball is a much easier game than 10-ball. And while Dennis still has a strong 10B break, Shane definitely has the advantage in that department. I still don't think i'd bet against Shane if they played in the next TAR, especially if people make him the underdog.

Okay, time for my two cents. Dennis is winning on a regular basis for a couple of reasons. One he is an extremely talented player who works hard at his PROFESSION! He takes his job seriously, practicing daily for 8-10 hours! He is a dedicated athlete who is highly motivated to be successful. He wants to win and is confident that he can win! Dennis is also a good family man with a beautiful wife and two great kids. Lastly he is a smart pool player, observing what is working for other players and adjusting his game as necessary.

It's no accident Dennis keeps showing up in the finals. He is considered by his peers to be the best player right now, on either side of the Pacific! If there are currently any Asian players (and I said ANY!) who are interested in a Ten Ball match for some serious money, please look me up. It can be arranged! No one from China or Taiwan is barred, NO ONE!!!!

As for the curious thought that Taiwan can come up with a five man team to beat the five best from the Philippines, that's almost laughable. It's a short flight to Manila and if they are interested in sending a five man team to play a five man Philippine team, again for some real money, please let me know. I would be more than happy to put that one together. Say 50K per team.

Some people on here talk to just to make noise I think. I will put money behind any conversation I engage in here.

I'm thinking Dennis, Francisco, Alex, Lee Vann and Carlo Biado. Let's see who Taiwan wants to send to play these five guys. Again, please let me know asap. I'm heading that way in April and I can get the money together if they want to send a player to challenge Dennis or a team to play five on five. I think it would be a great match and I look forward to playing a part in making it happen. We're ready if you are.

that would be great to see

how good is Feliciano? Seems he can play with anybody. Seems like Alcano could also be subbed in with no drop off as well

Ronnie and Warren would be subs imo. Efren would be the coach! Michael F. is a great young player, but Carlo is rated over him.

Chao Fong-pang has won the International Challenge of Champions (an invitational event) three times.

 LOL... that was quite a long time ago and the field was less than 12. Let him try to join any of the tournaments with more than 100 or 200 entries and see if he even gets to the top 10. What about Wu and Yang's performances here in the USA?

how come Ronnies game has dropped some, he was on top a while back?

It's a fine line between being on top and being just another good player. It takes hard work and dedication to get to the top and stay there. Right now, Dennis has it!

Jay, one question... You like lee vann and biado over alcano??? I know they're both killers... I've seen ronnie finish runner up twice at the open and felt this was his year...

This 5 on 5 would make one hell of a sweat btw....

I'll take a shot with their 5....

Yang
Chang
Ko Pin Yi
He Wen Li
Yukio

Subs Fu/Wu

Captain Chao (Efren vs Chao if tie-break is needed)

Not sure what's up with Wu, but would def be in lineup if he's in gear....

P.S. Sorry for threadjack... Imo, the world gets the 8 from Dennis right now.... Svb vs Dennis old school long race would be great to see... I feel Dennis is the one man capable of fading the svb autopilot snap.... ;)

Now that's not fair!!! u just put a 5-man player from 3 different countries with a combined population of 2 billion!!! why not put SVB right there while we're at it

Chang came to the US last year and got 7/8th on his first and only attempt at the US Open. That's quite a bit more than a dent. How well did Dennis do on his first try here?

Wu came over to the US once as well and played in an IPT tournament or two, but I don't think he played in much else.

Has Yang ever actually come to the US? I'm not sure if he has.

Did Chao ever play anything in the US besides the Challenge of Champions, which he won a bunch of times?

In any case, there is a long list of players besides those mentioned that play just as good and have the tournament wins to prove it. The fact that they have never been to the US only means that US players aren't really exposed to how they really play. Frankly, they just miss less than every one. Especially Chang.

If you are that sure of the dominance of the Filipinos, why don't you send them to Taiwan? Barking about putting up $50k to send a group of players to another group of players' home country is hardly a fair bet considering the Taiwanese will have to deal with the home court advantage (humidity in the PI is not a small factor, not to mention the Filipino railbirds aren't exactly neutral) and travel costs among other things.

As far as I am concerned, saying that you will put up $50k is just an evasion of the argument because you know that A) nobody will put up $50k over an internet post, B) even if they do, the match will be a coin-flip, and C) you are giving yourself home court advantage by stipulating that the match will be in the PI. Overall it proves nothing save for the fact that you aren't willing to make a fair game and you are trying to put bravado over the importance of discussion.

Also, no one said that the 5 man team from Taiwan would beat the 5 man team from the Philippines. It would be a coin-flip possibly slightly in favor of one team or the other depending on the venue.

Indeed he did, although Jay also placed a Canadian on his team. Li, Akagariyama, and Alex can all be replaced by other players without significant loss of quality of play on either side.

Alex is filipino! He lives in Canada. The fact is you said that the Taiwan players are BETTER players than the filipinos. This would indicate that they should be very willing to go to Manila to take on the weaker filipinos. Should they lose by some miracle, we could arrange a rematch in Taipei.

My challenge extends to Chang as well. If he wants to play Dennis, we can arrange a match on neutral territory if he's afraid to go to Manila. If these Taiwanese players are so good then the crowd shouldn't really be a factor. I've been watching filipinos play in front of hostile crowds for 25 years and they manage to win anyway. They seem more immune to the pressure and imo that's why they can and will beat a team from Taiwan.

The Challenge of Champions is not an indication of anything with the one game format to win matches, or maybe you haven't been paying attention. Let them play a long match (like Yang used to do) and let's see who's really the best. By the way, the first time Dennis came to the USA, he won his first big table tournament and then he won the U.S. Bar Table Eight Ball Championship playing on a small table for the first time! There were about 200 players in the field, including all the best bar table specialists in the country.

I have yet to see one player from Taiwan play in the USBT Championships. The filipinos are not afraid to travel wherever they need to go to play pool and win money. And they face the same travel expenses and inconveniences as any other player coming from Asia. Bottom line, they're hungry to play and win! There isn't really another nation with players like that. Yes I grant there are many great players in China, Taiwan and from Europe. But if they want to match up with the filipinos, they can get action.

I'm not here to just bark. If you knew me you would know that. I like to put things together and make them happen. If there was any chance of creating a singles or team match I'm fully prepared to do my part, including put up money. Are you?

for the best results

to really see a good match up between these two that is set perfect between them is to...

Let them put up their own money, no less than 10,000 (5,000 for shorter races) they decide on the game/s, races and rules.

we call all sit here and argue for 1000+ pages about pool rules but in the end it's just ones opinion over another i.e. why was the rules changed for corey's creation but nothing has been done about Shane's. Is it fair that he get to be crowned as having the best and most deadly 10 ball break but Corey get the book. No one has a patent on breaking, let the others catch up or fall behind.

pool continues to punish the player for getting better making getting better be questioned, C+ player stay at C+ just to rob the tourney and get the 4 on 7 from the A, A's stay A's not to move to the open, and gamblers NEVER play even, everyone need a F**king spot. (hey Tiger, you have to putt lefty, drive for 20 yrds back and play with the same club, Coby, you can't shoot more than 10 times per quater and it has to be from outside the paint, Dale you have to slow down and let the guy behind you catch up to make it fair.

The same person doesn't win all the tourneys, the cream still and always rise to the top, former pro's have all fallen to the road side to a new generation of play and that's called "the dedicate". Once in a while we are graced with the face of someone who we say "OH, he's still shooting?" and heaven help is they make it in the money, cause now the fan boy and bandwagoners are claiming he's a force to be reckoned with.

Oh so dennis is the world champ now, shit i can't keep up can i really thought that it was Darren.... or wait, was it SVB, no it was busti can he rocked at DCC, FML
