It's not cut and dry.
1.) If you care less about performance and meet the following criteria you should go with the MB:
-past middle age
-financially secure
-confident in man hood
-not wanting too much attention
2.) If you live pay check to pay check OR like lots of attention go with the BWM no matter what your age.
3.) If performance is your deciding factor go with Beamer.
Note:
If you are past middle age, like speed and luxury, gamble, have a shit ton of money, and looking for young to middle age trim go with the BMW if you don't feel like buying both.
Qualifier:
If you are chasing after any trim above 45 years of age and / or 220 lbs in body weight go with the MB because the 535i is too fast for their GI Tract.
