I dont know if it is or not, but the word World champion is used a lot more then it should be in pool (nothing to do with your thread btw) especially in my old home room, This one player we had there would always say he played this world champion, lost to this world champion!
To be a world Champion to me, one would have to win a World championship pool tournament, as the U.S. open or one of those World tournaments over seas.
I dont think a player is known as a world champion pool player by winning a State tournament or regional tournaments.
Man i used that word alot, i told you it was used to much.

I believe the WPA stopped sanctioning the Dragon events in 2009.

that's kinda why I was asking as I have seen a lot of "world champions" and "worlds best" on here lately lol.
The World Pool-Billiard Association is recognized as the the official world governing body for pool. Their list has the most "official credibility". Various promoters and organizations may have claimed to be running a "world championship" before the WPA held their first (1990, 9 ball) but none of them really had any sort of internationally recognized status. For many years Brunswick organized the "World Championship" and you could argue that because the strongest (known) players were entered, it was a WC.
