What are R.A.M. shots?

It's only for a few strange coincidences....

Like, you asking about the same subject he went off about....

Like, you having a "join date" after he was banished...

Like, you and he both listing "Europe" as where you are from...

And did I say you both discussing the same subject matter? A subject (bar pool guides) that pretty much no one has agreed is a good idea, in a forum full of pool players?

Those might be some reasons why folks think that you might be Poolkiller. And if so, at least you've figured out the way the forum works now, and are far better behaved than he was, so it's really no issue. More a curiosity, or amusement.

Good luck with your project. Hopefully it makes you happy working on it.

Hmmm... I didn't know when he was banned. I'm not really familiar with what that guy was talking about, but I heard from some other people here he tried to change pool somehow or something like that. I'm not into that stuff. Actually, the fact we're both from Europe some users here used as a main arguement when they accused me of being him. But Europe is a quite big place with over 700 million people... Anyway, thanks, if I start the project, I'll do my best :)

kinda funny, what experience could an unknown, and by your own admission, a rather modest player bring to the table to write a book... I mean, your experiences playing bar pool is about the same as every APA 4 on the planet, no better, and no worse. The diff is, the APA 4's don't write books about pool, they buy them :)

Sure, but it can help complete newbies become 4's faster. And my hypothetical book will be free.

Right, the blind leading the blind. Maybe you should write a short pamplet, and list all the great pool books already written, and pass it out at your pool hall... I mean, if you really want the newbies to get better this is gonna do it..... and you can still take the credit.. it's win/win

There are lots of folks from Europe that post here, but they usually post the specific country. In my few years here, there have been two that have listed "Europe".... Note, you don't often see anyone using other continents as their location, but to be fair, I think I have seen one "North America"...surely you understand the coincidence.

Sure, but it can help complete newbies become 4's faster. And my hypothetical book will be free.

As an APA 5, I can assure you that a book on bar pool isn't going to help newbies become a SL4 faster. Books like "99 Critical Shots" will, not bar pool stuff.

Having seen your newly proposed 8-ball variants in the other thread, I am completely convinced you are the reincarnation of Poolkiller, just a more restrained version. You are playing the innocent "I don't know what you're talking about" stuff quite well, it's cute. Again, good luck.

The same way I can keep telling you that you are Poolkiller, and there would be no way you could disprove me completely, so this kind of accusations leads nowhere. Maybe I don't want to say what city or country I'm from, maybe I think that's just not important. I don't see that being a reason for ban. And I don't understand what my proposed games have anything to do with that PK guy you keep bringing up.

I heard this was a popular shot in APA League where you don't really have a good shot...so you shoot the cue ball into a cluster of balls hard with a 3 foot follow through and try and luck a ball in.

Be careful with that follow through, you'll get a double hit called on ya!

And regarding the ram shots... Not that I really have a desire to try it, but in theory, if someone practised it long enough to be able to do it consistently without failing, wouldn't that person have the most powerful break in history of pool?

But Europe is a quite big place with over 700 million people...

So you know Antony then right? Is he still working at Air2000? Let him know I said hi.

The same way I can keep telling you that you are Poolkiller, and there would be no way you could disprove me completely, so this kind of accusations leads nowhere.

Here's the thing, these accusations DO lead somewhere.
If like twenty people think you're poolkiller and it catches the mod's attention,
they lead to a ban.

So, I personally would try to avoid that.
That's just me though.
If it's super important to you to make that bar guide and defend ram shots,
then do what you gotta do I guess.

I'm just curious since I asked this on a couple of my posts and nobody answered me.

NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Not this again, anything but this. Seriously, lets start a "the best of fast larry" thread, reopen the infamous "c*nt- thread" or better yet lets all cover ourselves in chili sauce and roll in broken glass. All of those alternatives are better, way, way better than revisting this subject.

It's been discussed to death. You sir, are by far the most persistent and possibly most successful internet troll I have ever encountered. I can't believe anyone would actually make an entire pool book/manual for the sole purpose of trolling, and then bring it up over and over again under different aliases without EVERYONE understanding that this is in fact the same person. Someone please restore my faith in humanity and do something.

First off, I'm not defending the ram shot, I think it's way to dangerous to even try it. I only asked how much power you could produce in theory if you learned to shoot that way perfectly. About the guide/book, I don't understand why all the hate. If you would like to read it, I'm glad, if you wouldn't, I don't mind, but why are people threatning me with a ban for writing such a booklet?

I'm wondering... Is there a way to report posts like this to an admin or a moderator? Accusing, disturbing and trolling people this way has to be against the rules.

This guy keeps cracking me up literally lol gonna get me in trouble at work

Here we go again...

You are kinda bringing it on you man this isn't screw around billiards this is azbilliards. No question is dumb I am a firm believer in that but when keep asking the same question over and over again what do you expect. Just trolling the internet for attention. But get your video camera out and practice your ram shot over and over film it and post your progress I would enjoy watching it. Just remember this lesson from little league you can throw the ball to first much faster than you can run it there similar motion. Just saying

You are good sir! I mean it, kudos. I am the one thats trolling, thats priceless.

Ok, I will bite. Lets say for arguments sake that you are not the same person that posted "the manual". Since this manual, and the responses to it has been shown to you by other forum members, how can you still claim not to know what they are? I mean, if I were accused of being a well known forum troll and the author of a manual, I would certainly read it to see what it was all about. Wouldn't anyone?

I perfectly get it but what on Earth makes you think I'm screwing around? What question do I keep asking over and over again? I don't remember repeating myself.

RAM is Robin's Aiming Method.. from "Aim is the Game" by Robin Kelly

Thanks, but I don't think this has anything to do with aiming methods :D

When I was first accused of being the author of that manual, I was given the link, and I went there and read it. Twice. I've done my homework, don't worry. However, that was several months ago, and I completely forgot about Poolkiller, the manual, the trolls and everything and I moved to more serious stuff. But a few days ago someone mentioned ram shots again on one of my threads, and I had no idea what he was talking about. So I opened this thread to see what it actually was. Try to imagine my frustration when some guys started talking about "my ram shot"...

I'm not planning on reading that manual again, but in the meantime I've done another research. I've searched for Poolkiller's name and guess what I've found. At least 6 more "Poolkillers" are apparently active on this forum. Or at least the majority of users think they're somehow related to him. Considering the multi-alias ban, that Poolkiller guy's gotta be a CIA agent to have access to enough ISP adresses in order to clone himself several times. That, or maybe, just maybe, some of those people were accused for wrong reasons

Well, to be clear, it's not people (plural) threatening you with a ban, there's pretty much
one guy who does 100% of the banning on this forum, Mr Wilson.
So as long as you don't annoy him, you're safe.

As for the "why"... honestly I don't know, simply having an unpopular opinion normally
doesn't lead to a ban.

Maybe Wilson thought "this stuff is so unbelievably contrary, he has to be doing it on purpose to get a rise out of people".
Or maybe you (ahem, sorry, "that other guy")
got a little too heated in a discussion and resorted to some namecalling. I dunno.

Bottom line is: you CAN get banned on this site for things that may not make sense or
may seem unfair. One fairly cut-and-dried cause for banning is second accounts.
In my opinion you're treading on thin ice. Not a threat because if it were up to me,
I'd say "knock yourself out, write that guide". I personally don't mind.

Thanks for answering but what is that unpopular opinion I have? The idea about writing a booklet about my pool experiences? If everyone is against it then I won't do it. I've encountered enough hate and hostitilities so far for apparently no reason.

Second account? I guess I'd remember if I had visited this site before. As far as I know, the mods detect multiple accounts using ISP adresses, so if I used it twice, wouldn't I get banned already? Or am I wrong?

And please, will this discussion ever come to an end. I have nothing against you personally, but there are people who literally attack every single thread I post. I'm asking you as a senior member, what else should I do to stop this arguements and return to peaceful debates?

Well, playing along...

The unpopular opinion PK held was that we should promote an unusual set of rules (basically, bar rules) instead of the World Standardized Rules, or BCA/WPA-type rules.

The general attitude on AZB (and I can't say I disagree) is that bar rules are made by low level players, for low level players, and would be a joke in the hands of professionals who could exploit weaknesses in these rules, weaknesses that would basically ruin games like 8 ball and lead to stalemates or blatantly unfair situations where the game is effectively unwinnable.

There was some additional backlash because it was pretty clear PK was a low level player who didn't understand the nuances and reasoning behind these rules. His status as a banger was cemented when he suggested stuff like the ram shot, scooping the cue ball to jump it, blasting balls randomly to move them away from pockets, etc.

He added multiple baffling rules to his guide that existed nowhere else on earth, such as directly hitting the 8 ball first with the cue ball = instant loss of game.

It further annoyed people because he insisted on renaming virtually every conventional term from jump shots ("air to ground shots") to diamonds ("locators") to combos ("chain shots").

So it seemed pretty conceited for a banger to say "Here is the way everyone should be playing, using easily-exploited scrubby rules, and let's all use completely new terminology. That should fix the lack of standardization in pool rules, make it more accessible and popular, and bridge the gap between amateurs and pros."

Hope that clears up why PK was so unwelcome. As for what you can do to avoid hostilities: Probably forget writing any sort of guide, erase ram shots from your memory, and if you do decide to write something, you may want to studiously avoid echoing any of the unpopular sentiments mentioned above.

Finally someone making sense. Thank you :) Although now I see even less logic in those accusations I may be PK. I never, ever mentioned any of the stuff above. I made clear I'm a banger myself, but I never said bar rules should replace BCA or anything like that. That would be ridiculous. The only thing I'd like to see is a separate bar section on this forum for us bangers/casual players and lovers of bar rules. Using new terminology? Like this one isn't complicated enough! When I was given the link to PK's guide, I actually wasn't sure which term was right or wrong. Just added more confusion...

I did erase the ram shots from my memory (without trying very hard  ) until someone brought it up again. On some forums where I was a member a few years ago, it was a kind of unwritten rule to let trolling posts die, and nobody would bring them up again on purpose. To conclude this once and for all, regarding that guide thing, I most likely won't write it at all, and even if I do, I can assure you it won't have anything to do with ram shots!

I can't wait for an illiterate's guide to publishing books..

You can be spotted a mile away as PK or some hackjob reincarnation of him/her/it. If you actually focused on new material, it wouldn't be so obvious or at the least people wouldn't be so skeptical. But, no, you have to dredge up the same kinds of topics with no apparent objective other than fudging with the board.

Go write your 'manual' and keep yourself busy and away from.. well.. anybody.

Edit: The only reason that I think you choose 'Europe' as a location is that you'd find it much more unlikely that somebody would ask where you are and try to meet you in person.
