What are R.A.M. shots?

I can't wait for an illiterate's guide to publishing books..

You can be spotted a mile away as PK or some hackjob reincarnation of him/her/it. If you actually focused on new material, it wouldn't be so obvious or at the least people wouldn't be so skeptical. But, no, you have to dredge up the same kinds of topics with no apparent objective other than fudging with the board.

Go write your 'manual' and keep yourself busy and away from.. well.. anybody.

Edit: The only reason that I think you choose 'Europe' as a location is that you'd find it much more unlikely that somebody would ask where you are and try to meet you in person.

"Fudging with the board?" Please quote just one sentence I posted that was supposed to troll people on board. From the first day I posted here every now and then I get insults, hostile responses and my threads get literally trolled. And after that I get called a troll. I don't know why mods haven't reacted to this yet. If someone would show me just one forum rule I broke while being here, I'd ban myself.

I'm also sad I'm from Europe cause I'd enjoy meeting some of the people here in person and see if they had the courage to talk like this to me in person

So, it's just a coincidence that you post the same material and tend to act in the same manner as a troll that got banned at about the same time you started? Will wonders ever cease..

I'm sure many people would echo your last comment.

Stay tuned for McDonald's Guide to Healthy Eating.

Here's one since this is back on pg. 1

Forgive the lazy quote...

The boldened, italicized, and enlarged font in the above makes me wonder.

Lovers of bar rules ? Yes, I have a few APA brethren who make this claim, but very few people make this claim that I have met after realizing the benefits of rules. Why would you want people to remain ignorant ?

YES....fudging with the forum.

I never read any of PK's stuff either, nut some of Creedo's quotes had me laughing. G-A shots...chain shots, etc.

Well, playing along...

The unpopular opinion PK held was that we should promote an unusual set of rules (basically, bar rules) instead of the World Standardized Rules, or BCA/WPA-type rules.

The general attitude on AZB (and I can't say I disagree) is that bar rules are made by low level players, for low level players, and would be a joke in the hands of professionals who could exploit weaknesses in these rules, weaknesses that would basically ruin games like 8 ball and lead to stalemates or blatantly unfair situations where the game is effectively unwinnable.

There was some additional backlash because it was pretty clear PK was a low level player who didn't understand the nuances and reasoning behind these rules. His status as a banger was cemented when he suggested stuff like the ram shot, scooping the cue ball to jump it, blasting balls randomly to move them away from pockets, etc.

He added multiple baffling rules to his guide that existed nowhere else on earth, such as directly hitting the 8 ball first with the cue ball = instant loss of game.

It further annoyed people because he insisted on renaming virtually every conventional term from jump shots ("air to ground shots") to diamonds ("locators") to combos ("chain shots").

So it seemed pretty conceited for a banger to say "Here is the way everyone should be playing, using easily-exploited scrubby rules, and let's all use completely new terminology. That should fix the lack of standardization in pool rules, make it more accessible and popular, and bridge the gap between amateurs and pros."

Hope that clears up why PK was so unwelcome. As for what you can do to avoid hostilities: Probably forget writing any sort of guide, erase ram shots from your memory, and if you do decide to write something, you may want to studiously avoid echoing any of the unpopular sentiments mentioned above.

This is very a good summary of the PK controversy. I would also like to add that merely writing some strange manual on pool is not the only thing that made PK so irritating. If you (Push&Pool) or anyone else would like to write one, go for it. Really.

The problem with PK is that he spammed the forum with excerpts from the book, even after he had gotten an unilaterally negative response. When people criticized the concepts or pointed out absurdities in terminology, he became extremely defensive and refused to even consider that he might be wrong. He came to get opinions and then completely ignored them.

I still don't see what "same manner" you're talking about. I hate to repeat myself, but here I go again: show me just one post or even a sentence where I intentionally "trolled" someone.

I didn't get the "trolling" part in that quote. Which people do I want to remain ignorant? Benefits of what rules? APA? BCA? If, at some point in your life, you have enough time for that, I challenge you to visit the place where I live, enter a couple of bars and do your best teaching them why they should use those rules instead of the bar rules they already know. If you succeed, I'll congratulate you. In the meantime, I guess it would benefit players who are, like me, surrounded by nothing but bars when it comes to pool, to have a section where they could discuss the game when bar rules are applied and ask whatever help they need.

I just posted in a thread 10 mins ago where somebody asked how he's supposed to adapt to terrible playing conditions in a bar. Many people answered him to visit a poolhall and stop playing in bars. But what if the nearest pool hall is 300 km away? In that hypothetical "Bar Section", people would have more understanding, probably being in the same conditions their whole life, and offer some more constructive help.

I am from Europe too:smile:. My previous post should explain to you why people are beeing hostile. What we see is an almost exact rerun of PK's tactics. Which is constantly bringing up concepts from the infamous manual. It seems EXTREMELY improbable that anyone besides PK himself (or some other troll) would be interested in doing that.

That is the reason why i believe you to be him. But hey, if I am wrong I am sorry:rolleyes:.

For some reason, all that my mind can process when reading the above amounts to, "Fish on!"

Okay, go ahead and tell people about the greatness of bar pool - even though you're an "admitted banger". Even with your limited experience, you should be able to tell them how when the felt is slow you have to hit the ball harder.

I've also got this secret move that gets people every time.. when they're on the 8 and it's in the kitchen, just scratch. Don't tell anybody I told you, though, it's our little secret.

If you think that you can pull this stunt with somebody that's learned and plays primarily in a bar.. you've got another thing coming. Bar rules are fine by me.. people that troll about them are not. When you need conversation that badly, you may want to just hit up the local retirement home.

I didn't bring this up. Someone else did. After hearing the term several times from several people, I decided to ask what it actually meant. Yes you are wrong, but no hard feelings :p

Troll about bar rules I do not. Very pointless this conversation has become.

Where do you live? I have a lot of vacation time I need to take and was thinking about going to Europe. I would love to come experience your bar rules and offer alternatives. I love being congratulated too.

I didn't plan on discovering that yet. The world is a small place and sometimes it's unwise to give away your location to the whole internet. I'm not in my home town anyway because of college. Maybe we could arrange a meeting, but not very soon as I'll be busy for at least a few months.

Out loud did I laugh.
:)

Corrected I stand.

On topic, I say "Go for it!" Write the book. I actually don't play on bar tables often, but when I do, it feels like a whole different game. I could probably improve on them with the benefit of your experience. I usually skip the local bar table tournaments because I have such a hard time. I think it would be good exercise for me to jump in and adjust to the equipment. Surely, your book would give me a head start.

I'm actually playing in a bar table tournament this weekend, but they're Diamonds, so it's not quite the same experience (although the size of the table will be a challenge for me).

I'll see what I can do  But please for now don't expect any releases from me xD If you want to read a lot of good advice about playing bar pool, I think this topic is for you: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=312760 Quite a few experienced bar players shared a lot of their knowledge there.

EDIT: I just found this on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8kkjopqJhZE

oh how convenient.

I dont care if I get to meet you or not, I just want to visit your hometown. surely you know a bar owner there you could put me in touch with.

I'm in John's Creek GA and I don't care if the whole internet knows it.

If that's the case, then I don't wanna be responsible for ruining your holidays, go visit a website with best locations in Europe to travel to. Please don't bother coming to my town
