Emily Duddy Photoshoot Multiple Images

How Emily chooses to spend her money, a lot or a little, is her business. If she wants to book a flight around the world and pay for a hotel, it shouldn't be for us to judge. Just saying. Anyway, forget it. All good. And btw, the metro card is now $2.50.

Agreed. Its totally up to Emily. I'm not question how she chooses to spend her money. I'm questioning how she chooses to present herself... as a professional poolplayer. Seems to me, she has a hard time competing at the professional level.

Clearly, I'm not the only one who thinks so.

You guys are being a little hard on the girl I am thinking. I have played on a live stream many times and have played my game and it felt great, I also have played way under my speed whether it was because I was tired, something I ate or just an off day. There is added pressure when a camera and all the eyes in the room are on you at the feature table, I cant imagine playing on a true TV table where probably a million people are watching you. Some of us might rise up to the occasion and others might fold up, you won't know until you are there and some will never be there so being an armchair quarterback is all you got. ;)

Lenny,
I read and believe that you have a very strong game. If you dont consider yourself to be pro speed why should she, when she isnt shooting at A speed on her best day?

We all play how we play and love the game. Thats great. Its just that people throw the title of professional around too much. It means you make a fair percent of your incone playing. What has she won this year in tournament play?
There arent 20 guys making a living shooting pool now in tournaments, and God knows if any women are as the WPBA is about dead in the water.

So everybody not making a majority of their income from playing pool cant call themselves a professional pool player?

Reminds me of a old joke or two...

What do you call a pool player without significant other?

Homeless

She plays on the pro tour....she was rookie of the year on the pro tour...she plays in pro events...

What exactly should she call herself?

Hi...Im advanced amateur pool player Emily Duddy....

Hi...Im more serious than your average bar player Emily Duddy...

Hi...My name is Emily Duddy and people on the internet said I couldn't call myself a professional player but I play pool...

So every person trying to be a actor...who is not in a major film... they cant call themselves actors...I mean Kevin Spacey calls himself an actor...so Joe Blow wannabee waiting tables while hitting every audition...better not call himself an actor....how dare he...

Its just silly...the sheer amount of haters here is amazing....Emily might not be as good as the best out there...but she is working on it...and trying...and putting herself out there...a lot more than can be said for most

Yeah, people like that...they usually call themselves "aspiring actors", realizing that just because they played the lead in their high school play, it doesn't put them in the same league as professional actors like Kevin Spacey.

Just saying.

(Cause, using your logic, anyone who picks up a pool cue and enters a pro tournament is a "Professional Pool Player" )

Amazing you missed the rest of the post ...

But I agree with you...without a cohesive test or ranking system that is used to set what is what...anybody who played in a professional event could claim to be a professional player...

I think I've heard Japan has a ranking system that determines who can play what and where...I could be wrong... but we can't even decide which tournament decides a World Champion...

The fact is Emily does play on the tour...she was ranked Rookie of the Year for the Tour....now in the local Tristate Tour she is a B or B+ player....but that doesnt change the fact she does play on a pro tour...if every player who does not make their primary living off of playing pool was not allowed to call themselves professional players there are a lot and I mean a huge amount of extremely high level players who will no longer have that right..

Would you say Rodney Morris isnt a pro? 6500 this year...tell me he doesnt do something else...Johnny Archer...10600....owns a pool hall though...Efren isnt even IN the top 20.....

I really could care less what Emily calls herself...or how she markets herself....I am just amazed at how many people seem to take personal offense over what she does....like it demeans them that she chooses to call herself a professional player...

Makes no sense...

Very nicely stated

the fact is she is not a Emily is not a top women pro player and probably never will be.

Is she a good looking women? yes
Can she choose to do whatever she wants to do to promoter herself or make herself feel good? HELL YES

She can give Shanelle Loraine the 7 ball and some people think because Shanelle is promoted well she is a pro player also, give me a break.

I watched 3 games
He is better boderline AA player, if shes a pro he is a superpro.
She is borderline A. I would give her 8 and a game and shouldnt lose a set. In my room she would be middle of the pack, maybe , with bangers included.
This is in no way a knock, just an honest evaluation.

Who is "he"? She was playing another woman.

I'm curious...what's a "borderline AA" player and what's a "borderline A" player in your book? If a borderline A player is middle of the pack in your room, I want to make sure I never find myself there!

IMHO, an A player is pro speed, likely to cash in most regional/local open level tournaments...AA players are favored to win/place top 3. Tony Watson is an AA player, for example, and he's a monster.

I'd rate her a Shortstop, based on what I've seen...about a B (I realize some folks consider A to be a Shortstop--I don't agree)...and that's a lot better than most posting on here, I suspect.

I agree with everything you said except the shortstop part, and the A part. I don't think an A has much of a chance playing a pro. That's why they're pros and we're not. I always thought a shortstop was more like an Open - could hang with pros but you wouldn't bet on them winning.

And I'd also like to know where this room is, where a borderline A is middle of the pack, including bangers. Does that also include date-poolers?

That's the problem with ratings like these...all in the eyes of the beholder and the location/region where they're assessed. The A players in the Great Southern Billiard tour, for example, all play VERY sporty...they only get something like two games on the wire in a race to 11 with a AA player. It's a pretty fine line. Open class players, Shortstops, high B and A level players are pretty hard to distinguish. I've seen players everywhere from high C to AA referred to as "Shortstop"...I never agreed with a C player being called a "Shortstop", but I'd never call a AA player one. That's straight up pro in my book. And relating APA or BCAPL ratings to this is nuts; that's all over the map!

All good. Thanks for the civility.

Where I play we have about 50 regulars. 2 AA-1 players, 5AA, 8A, about 10 B-B+ guys, and we rate down to C, so C+ and down maybe another 25 in that. There are players I would call shortstop speed that go to AA-3, none playing here now.

I am in the AA group, at home I can beat the ghost with bih more often than not in races to 5 or 7. I have broke and run 7 on a 9 foot. I ran 116 in straight pool after playing around and working at it over the summer.

I would not even consider myself a shortstop. Guys in that category will beat me most often by a wide margin. That said I have beat several of them, maybe 30% out of 10 of so matches.

Someone who is borderline A would not beat the ghost with BIH. They probably have a high run of 3-4 in 9 ball. In a race to 7 they will rarely break and run anything over 2 racks.

I would bet every dollar I have Miss Duddy couldnt beat the ghost with BIH in a race to 7. If you cant do that the majority of the time, you are not anywhere near calling yourself a pro.

3 years back I played a female pro at a tournament near SBE. She was 20th or so on the tour. I beat her 7-2. She was a weak A at best.

Yes there are women players that can play at a high level, she isnt one of them and shouldnt self-nominate herself as a pro. I have played a dozen or so pro events, so am I a pro?

The players we have left have played for a long time and compete regularly. Very few new players, maybe 2 or so over 3 years that really apply themselves. I am talking tournament players, not league or date nighters.

A shortstop to me is a guy who can place in the top 16 in a 128 player pro event, come into your town and beat at least 95% of the players there. He could beat any top player on a good day, but shouldnt. A guy I would consider plsying 7 games to 9, but not for houses!

Not really sure people are "taking personal offense" over her marketing herself as a professional pool player. More like having a laugh at the idea that calling yourself a pro or attempting to market yourself as one doesn't keep people from realizing that your game isn't on that level yet. That's all.

If you put yourself and your actions out there for the world to see and judge, you have to expect that some of those judgements might not be what you wanted to hear.

See there's 3 things at work here.

1) Playing on a Professional Tour. Does this qualify you as a Professional player? You say yes, i say no. My example is that I can go and pay my money and play in the Predator 10-ball, a Pro event, and therefore I can call myself a "professional pool player" , using the logic you provided.

2) Do you earn enough money that playing pool is your profession/job? This, we are in agreement. If this was the criteria then not many people would be able to call themselves professional pool players.

3) Do you play "pro" speed? This is why Rodney, Johnny, Efren, etc. are considered pros. Any event, anyway, they are in the running to win it. They play at the highest level of the sport.

I think that when you call yourself a profressional pool player people expect more of 3 than they do 1 or 2.

She kind of looks like she could be about 1/8 Minbari* (the eyes/nose region). That said, I also prefer a more natural look to the caked on foundation look in the photos. I thought she looked very cute in the China match and I also don't think it was that embarrassing. Sure, she made a few bad decisions but there was only one time she came to the table where there wasn't a fairly major problem. Combine that with the nerves, not getting a chance to get some easier shots to settle herself and the fact that her opponent didn't make any mistakes and you get a 7-0 whitewash.
