salesman or scam artist??

I guess I should be a better salesman. BTW, is there some sort of Kamui promotion I don't know about? A friend(I'm such a poor salesman my friends don't buy from me.....maybe it is me..anyway) of mine told me one of the local hustlers(in sales) calls him up frequently to sell him things. A Kamui tip, chalk, and holder, all for the bargain price of 100.00.... I say "promotion" because that is what was touted. His sale was further enhanced by saying "you are basically getting these for cost"...

Let me further my angle here by pointing out this guy I know just bought a metal lathe and still has neither collets to protect the shafts, anything to hold the back of a shaft, or even a drill chuck. His first real tip job will be done on my friends custom(as in Carmelli rings matched to the butt of a 4000.00 Carmelli by Carmelli) Predator, so we aren't talking about a cheap shaft by any stretch of the imagination.

This guy even dropped my name, which bothers me. I gave him my Hightower book, some delrin(when people say they need collets I give them delrin because if you can't or don't want to make collets I don't any more interest in trying to help), and some advice. Now, I don't proclaim to be the cat's meow, not at all. However, I have a reputation for doing good work and if something goes wrong I take care of it....period(one of the first cues I did was a cheapo, thank god, and the cutter caught on the broken ferrule and snapped the shaft. I bought him the same exact cue the next day. That was the only catastrophic failure I have had). My friend said I had been showing him some things, which isn't true.

I have my own line drawn and, in my mind, everything this guy did was wrong. I don't have the pressures of a mortgage(paid for) or a family to support, but at what point do YOU draw the line?

I probably do work too cheaply right now, but I still consider myself a beginner in many ways. Wholesale prices aren't top secret, so I don't even care if someone knows my cost, I simply explain that IMO keeping several thousand dollars worth of stock earns me the right to make a few bucks on the product AND the service.

How in the world is your friend taking his shaft to him instead of to you ?
Call him ( the future ex-repair man ) and tell him flat out he's not qualified to do any repair work and not to drop your name. If he's going in the mud, don't let him take you with him.
This business requires a lot of skill, WORK and OCD.

Stay true to your own conscience.

When you tell the truth, your memory is always crystal clear and you can look in the mirror and feel good every morning. Let the BSer have their day, I assure you it will be short lived, IMO.

When your cues are as good as Erines, your prices will be a lot higher and people will know what is value.

Remember, Rome was not built in one day.
