Show us your speed

I agree and like I said earlier in this thread it wouldn't let me upload the whole thing to youtube. It said it was too long so I broke it up into a couple of videos. They are on youtube under eddie0776 I just grabbed the last four videos on there and posted them. The point of this thread was to see how everyone played not just me. There has been a lot of talk about how other people play and was curious to see how they played themselves. I was gonna try to do a ustream video last night and post it but I was too busy working on cues to even think about it. Believe me I am no champion nor ever claimed to be. I consider myself a low B player to decent B player.

You are a B+ from the pocketing and position you showed in those videos. Maybe higher if you can string racks every few sets.

I just meant of course he was right about people being able to appear better than they are by slicing and dicing up their videos. I haven't seen anybody doing that in this thread though. Personally, I don't really care because I do not base a players speed solely on whether or not the ball goes into the hole.

Post just one rack if you want. Just one rack at least gives us an idea of what someone looks like at the table. That's kind of interesting to me.

Sorry about that I didn't really mean for that to come off harsh but after rereading what I wrote I can see it may be taken that way. That wasn't meant to be aimed at you.

I actually said the same thing about judging a persons speed, it was something like, "I don't just a persons speed solely on the success of their run, I base it more on how they solve the puzzle, their stroke and how they handle pressure." I deleted it because I thought maybe I was getting off point.

Anyhow, I will try to find a way to get a longer video. I have a 16 gig card somewhere but I cant find it right now. Maybe it's time to buy a new one. Maybe I can record straight to the hard drive on my laptop. Anyone know?

I'm 15, been into the game for 4 months. First held a cue 2 years ago. here is the link to one of the many break and runs : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5t6viXiXdE

Hi Iulian, you've came a long ways since the first video you sent me. I don't know if you're working with a coach yet or not, but my best advice would be to find a good one now. You've got a lot of talent at your age and I think you would really benefit from someone who knows what they are doing. It looks like someone has already worked with you some.

I wish I had a coach at your age. It helps to learn things correctly the first time so you don't have to relearn it later.

Keep it up!

Chris

Reason #1 I haven't posted a video. Pockets so small my best so far on it is a 3 pack.
Reason #2 is the only camera I have that can do more than 5 minutes is on my tablet and it's grainy as heck.
I'll try to get something together one of these days but if anyone wants to play some cheap sets in my area I'd welcome the challenge. I miss not having a pool hall in town...

Edit to add:
Someone other than Doggin would be nice. He has enough of my money!
-but you still have action Jeff!

Thats a tough table to play the ghost on. The table is a major factor when playing. I am lucky that the pool room just recovered the tables and they stay nice.

Now that's tight. Running a 3 pack on that table I would imagine is a feat in itself. Nice job.

Here's a video of 10 consecutive racks of nine ball. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be beating the ghost anytime soon.

Nice video and nice room. You are on your way to beating the ghost, with a few small adjustments I think you would pick up a ball or two in speed. My wife is like you (right handed shooter left eye dominate) and she has a problem lining up on the shot straight. Did you have that problem early on too or were you able to just walk up without any line up issues?

Zeeder, I think you played fantasic considering that awful ear puking music they were pumping into that joint. I guess I should have muted it because I couldn't make it through the second rack.
Good shooting from what I saw.

I don't remember having difficulty lining up when I started out, though, that's been quite a while ago. I've always been a fairly natural shot maker. I definitely "feel" like I'm on the verge of jumping a ball or two. Thanks for your comment!

I liked it. I thought you shot pretty decent. I bet you probably play better against someone else than you do in practice, right?

I really think that the only way to judge a persons speed is to see how they play in competition against someone else. Playing the ghost is fine and all but it is really only offense. The ghost doesn't promote defensive thinking and doesn't allow 9 ball combos. It does however do a good job of judging your ability to run out but that's about it.

When I practice 9ball by myself I prefer to play a safety against myself if it's the right thing to do, that way I can also work on my ability to escape safeties.

Good job though, you got a nice, smooth game.

Yeah, I'm in a college town so the music can be pretty random. That said, I've got pretty eclectic tastes so not much bothers me, except when it gets to eardrum shredding volumes! I "got out" in only three of the 10 racks so I shot decent but there is definitely some room for improvement!

It depends on how much pressure I'm feeling. I sometimes play better when I'm playing an opponent for fun but I tend to fold under pressure. I've recently been working to make my game more pressure proof by not trying to slow roll everything and use more rails and angles where I can stroke the ball.

Thanks!

I think the best way to get over pressure anxiety is to play as many different people as possible. The more you do it the easier it will get.

And if you like to gamble a bit, try playing some cheap sets with people. This seems to effect most people more than regular competition. Once you have tested yourself in a few money games, regular competition will be much easier on your nerves.

I agree 100% with this. Gamble cheap and not only will the pressure get better, but so will you. Mix it up with the skill level players too. You might be shocked on how you do.

Agree with above posters...
That's why I put the offer out there to play some sets in my post.
It's a better reflection of one's all around game.
It adds that little bit of pressure (perhaps the camera does this too I dunno).
My opponent can tell me where he would rate my game.
Plus it gets me out of the house and gambling -which is always good!

I would love to play some but you are too far from me.

This video pretty much sums up my game: Had a perfectly good run going, screw up a shot and fluke it in anyway. Heh

And here's another one that I somehow managed to lose my mind and force myself into a bank (I hate banking). This one is actually a quick rack I take after playing a little safety battle, the guy leaves me a 1-9 carom. He breaks dry the next rack I run out (it's alternate break in this league format).

Sadly, my game has been stuck at around that level for the last year. These videos are about a ball or so above my "everyday/average" playing. There's plenty of full sets there, complete with ridiculous errors and everything.

And lastly, another example of how NOT to run a rack when your opponent leaves you a gift (including corner-hooking yourself)
