I sat in the 2nd. row during the final set and witnessed Earl saying the following to the crowd:

  1. 5x10's are the only way to play. The game is too easy like this. You play me under difficult conditions and I'll have my way with you!
  2. You guys love that jump stick, don't you? You think that takes talent?
  3. I am working hard to make these shots and you sit there and laugh? Do you realize how stupid that makes you look compared to my intelligence? (said to one fan in particular who seemed to think every single thing Earl said or did was funny).

I am not trying to start another Pro-Earl / Anti-Earl thread. We certainly have enough of those. I know any post about Earl runs that risk, but I thought these were too good not to share. The first quote is my favorite.

1. He wasn't complaining when he was winning US Open on generous
pockets 4 by 9's.

He is correct about jump sticks. In a big tournament like that jump sticks should not be allowed.

Pros should be able to kick.

The shortest route between two points is a straight line?

During Dechaine's time at the table, there were a couple times that I thought a 2 rail Corner 5 System kick would have been easier and defensively a superior option to the jump cue.

You want the best quote of match?

Just before Earl broke the first rack of the match, Dechaine moved his chair from one side of the round table to the other. Before he did, Mike asked the rail birds on our side if it would be OK.

He added: "I don't want to block your view. You know I have a big head, right?"

I don't see what the fuss is about. He seems like a nice guy to me. So what if he can come off as a little cocky? That comment also showed me a funny, humble side.

was watching it steaming, Al mentioned something about a table mic, but I had to turn in early (work this morning) so if one was turned on I missed it.

It always shocks me when i see Earl acting all crazy. I've met with Earl many times in SC and NC when he was with Mike G. He's really is a nice guy with a lot to talk about when it comes to the game.

Crazy how he acts in competition sometimes. I think Earl just feels jilted bc the game has kinda evolved into something that he feels isnt real pool.

I think ever since the soft break came about Earl has had a hard time dealing with other players putting packages together. He refused to conform to it. Just like the jump stick. He uses a full cue and he discredits the short jump cue.

He's still one of my favorite players bc he plays the game at an automatic pace at times. Still has one of the highest gears of all times as well.

That's just too funny...I had to read the names twice, just to make sure which one you were talking about. Wasn't Mike saying the same thing when he was losing to SVB on TAR?

He's right on all accounts. I've been saying for years that the pro's shouldn't be playing 9 ball on 9 foot tables. I'm happy that at least they've changed to 10 ball but I think the tar match on the 10 foot table proved that extra foot changes everything. They were playing safes on shots that they would have rifled in on a 9 footer and ran out.
