Forced to forefit

My buddy Steve Knoll was playing in the open and the seniors and when he had the same match time in both they made him chose one to forefit. Why would they let you play in both and not work with you knowing at some point you would probably have a conflicting match time. And believe me he had a good chance of winning the open.He was in the final 64 in the open and final 32 of the seniors.

So how would you fix this problem , Without creating mass chaos.

No offence but either the player shows up for the match or forfits, no gray areas. switching everyone around to meet everyone person schedule is more then what most people are willing to do. If it is even possible?

Talking about people who can't read Deadnutz posted the rules and I said that answers it. So I don't expect nothing to be done rules are rules. Everyones feelings would of been hurt if the old man snapped them both off anyways.

Upfront BS

Just because it was made known before the SBE started doesn't change the fact that it's still bs imo. Kinda makes it hard if not impossible to win both events, especially if there single elimination. Not the DCC I suppose.

I agree with this post....why can't a player be accommodated?

It's a bad beat

Because this could happen with 10, 20, or even 100 players with an event this big that has this many divisions.

Its easy to say "they should accommodate the player," until you're the one running the tournament and you have 85 people telling you they need to play their match at a later time......

A better computer program perhaps....Sean, get busy...:)

Yeah, it might be wishful thinking....or could it be done?
I know tournaments that have done it..but maybe not such a big field.

I have been going to the sbe for a decade that has always been the rule main reason why Dave daya has had to choose a a couple different times but he knew that was the risk he was taking many people don't realize after the first day the sbe expo goes down 60 or 70 tables because tap league has it annual rally event with about 450 people in singles and 200 teams starting Thursday night so expo already has all the matches scheduled out to keep everything on time. Between. The open, seniors, super seniors, women's,and both junior events

a tournament this large there's just not much wiggle room. How would you like to show up at your table for your scheduled match only to find out that you got bumped and have to sit a few mores hours. and then when you bump them you'll have to bump someone else to give the people that got bumped a chance to play and so on. There are no tables open! Every table is being used. Unless you want to gamble you have to leave the expo and goto a pool hall to get a table. we went to sand castle on day 2 so we could hit some balls.

Bad deal

I agree.

Reminds me of a big event I played in two decades ago, run by a famous promoter. It was on coin-ops, but there was only one change machine to get quarters and the line at the machine was at one point fifty players long. The option was to travel to a nearby bank to get quarters as everyone ran out.

The real disaster was that if your match came up and you were still in line for quarters, you forfeited the match.

Did he have to forfeit against Jeff Abernathy? He posted on FB that his morning match forfeited? He went on too win it "with his new Steve Lomax cue" is what he posted on Facebook

It's BS until you think of how many possible conflicts can pop up with that many players in a tournament. Put yourself in the shoes of the guy who shows up and gets rescheduled (possibly now making a conflict for him). I'm quite sure that player would think it was BS to have to wait.

I guess adding another day or two to the tourney wouldn't be an option. It would add to the local economy, but cost everyone else (players, vendors, promoters, etc.) a lot more money due to the price of the venue, motels, food, gas, etc. Not to mention most of the people who play or attend have jobs and would have to miss a couple more days of work.
