Uv

Here is my spinner and the UV power supply that I have:

It's an aluminum bar with two uprights, one with a spring loaded center and the other with a gear reduction motor and with 4 1 inch bearings for wheels. It rolls along a track that runs into the box containing the light that is held 3 inch from the revolving cue.

Mine is a mod 1000 and the one that is linked is a model 1100 so I guess that is the replacement. Truthfully, I like mine a little better as the high/low switch is on the power source instead of on the light unit making it easier to use as the light is sealed up inside of the box.

I just got a quote for a 400 watt system for 1400.00
Might not be as bad as I thought to get into uv.
It's terrible when I have 6 cues to finish and one set of mandrels. That's like a month of curing time :(

Where do I send the check ?
That is if that bulb really works.

I believe before purchasing you should check into this model a little deeper. I just read the specs and got the spec sheet out for mine and there is a difference. Mine is a 125/200 WPI with a total wattage for the 5" bulb at 992 watts. This model is rated at 400 watts total. It may be okay for printing or as a disinfectant but I don't know if it is powerful enough to set something as thick as a finish. Check it out before investing your money.

Thanks Dick
I will do so

Lol
I think that would burn up cuticles :)

Cuticles and more. My light is contained in a tunnel but while pushing the lathe fixture through the tunnel I have got a few pretty good sun burns on my arm. You don't need to just worry about the direct light rays but the reflected light rays are also harmful.

That would have melted Darcy.

Now, why can't they make anaerobic clear coat or epoxy ?
Put it and on deprive it of oxygen then it gets hard as a rock.

Well,
I pulled the trigger on a powershot 1100 from cure uv
I got it for 2400 and they threw in a safety kit, face shield, gloves and smock

Now to get some finish from unique

What sealer are you guys using and where do I order it?

I'm super excited to cure and polish in the same night!!!!!

The infamous Koa insulator. Spray and let sit for an hour or two then spray the UV. Dick will tell us the skinny on this.

I have a Brand new UV set up that was given to me as a trade for a cue lathe a year or so ago, its been sitting in my basement collecting dust. if anyone is interested, I will sell it for cheap. I have never used it or even turned it on. I accidentally broke the lamp last month when I dropped a small aluminum part which of course bounced of the side of the box and continued traveling sideways and hit the lamp directly. I never though this could possibly happen, but it did.
If I do sell it, I will make sure to replace the lamp and test it prior to shipping it to anyone. I will look up the model and post some pictures tonight when I get home.

Would have been nice to know yesterday!!

Great.
Looks like they have their own sealer too.

It's zero VOC ? If it works, that'd be great.
Might have to ask Dick if epoxy base coat is ok too.

Yes, I've used epoxy basecoat before but never really liked the results. The stuff is time consuming waiting for it to harden and with the lights heat and UV rays yellows it. The stuff that is the nuts is Axon's Koa Wood Insulator but it is expensive to acquire and hard to maintain a good shelf life. By the way, did you ever get it to work well with non UV finishes? This company says that their sealer seals oily woods and can be bought in much more "user friendly" amounts.

I can't tell you how much I dislike anything that is epoxy being used as a clear coat. Epoxy is glue modified to use as a finish in order to sell more epoxy. At the same time, I don't use and catalyzed urethane products as an adhesive. The fatty acids ( a chemical term) in the epoxy can yellow with time.

With UV, unless the piece of wood you are using in particular, needs a special sealer,
just spray on a heavy coat of finish, cure, sand, respray and see how it looks. An extra coat with sanding takes a few minutes. Most camatillo and some cocobolo needs something like koa wood inhibitor but with a really short shelf life the inhibitor will end up about 90% waste. You just need a couple coats to do the sealing. It is not a filler finish and the shelf life can be extended if you can replace the air in the insulator can with nitrogen gas.

I just ordered a quart of uv cure insulator And will try it out as soon as it gets here

That would be great if you post your opinion.
You will get yours way before I get mine.
Shipping to Canada is slow at best.
What about using a waterborne sealer?

I guess the one I have is identical to yours dick. I have been trying to find out how much they sell for brand new, but I got different figures and I did not want to offend anyone with my price. I remember giving the guy $1200-$1300 towards his lathe purchase for this UV system.
I found one used unit on eBay for a $1027. I think they sell for $1500-$2000 brand new. I could be wrong though.
I will sell this for $800 plus shipping for whom ever wants it.
The 2 guys whom already PMed me get first bid.
