Three Whines Regarding The Wanted/For Sale Forum . . .

Thats a good approach. I just wish that people would realize that yes, I am doing you a favor and I have to spend my time reselling it. That time is worth something. Am I going to hit you over the head and rob you? Well I won't hit you to hard. :) Seriously, no dealer is obligated to relieve someone else of their other cue. If people are realistic and have something I like, I am more than happy to work something out. But don't come to me with a beat up Schon, or Joss, or Peachauer and expect full retail on a brand new Klein.

Its not like a car dealership, anything you can push, pull or tow.. and we'll give you 500, thats right, 500 on the spot, just get it here... :) If it was only that easy...

When guys make me that kind of offer I just suggest they buy my cue now and PayPal me and that will give them at least 30 days before the credit card bill comes due to sell their cue for the "fair price" they just offered it to me for.

For some reason, nobody ever takes me up on that. Go figure.

I once put in my offering for a pretty big Gina, that I was only familiar with the values on Szams, Bushkas, Martins, TADs and Ginas so I could only consider those cues in trade. I got inundated with PMs from guys looking to educate me on the value of their whatever cue so we could make a deal.

My latest complaint is that I have sub-20-post new members PM me about a cue that I sold 4-6 months ago... asking if I'll consider a trade for their custom what-the-fcuk-ever cue.

I will agree that, as a buyer, I impulse bought far more things under the old "wild-west" format. It just seems that, for the most part, the good deals stayed toward the front and the silly deals got pushed back constantly.

Hey I don't like being asked for the BEST CASH price, only to have someone comeback and say..........

Lol, Joe.....unfortunately that's almost the standard m.o. for 'buying' a cue nowadays.

I think the biggest problem I've noticed is the large influx of new people wanting to sell and having no clue about how to describe their item, photograph it and get it online, etc, etc. Where have all these people come from all of a sudden. If only they were buyers, the market might have a chance to absorb all of the cue bloat.

That and, of course, the handful or two of people that seem feel that the community rules just don't apply to them.

... Also, just a tip; Always, and I mean Always inlcude the following when selling a cue; My top 10, I'm sure I missed a few....I mean, if you got a nice cue, sings it's praises.....

1. Make
2. Age
3. Condition (in percentages)
4. Weight
5. Length
6. Number of shafts
7. Original or Refinished
8. Joint type
9. Type of wood/wrap
10. Inlay material

And here are some additional things I always want to know in making a decision about a cue:

- Weight of butt and each shaft separately
- If it has a weight bolt, weight of the butt without the bolt
- Diameter at top of ferrule for each shaft
- Diameter at joint (so I'll know whether any of my other shafts will fit nicely)
- Diameter at bottom of butt (an indicator of how thick the cue will feel in my hand)
- Ferrule material
- Whether the cue has any ivory in it

Edit -- it amazes me that some sellers have refused to take the time/effort to supply this information or have just called me a "tire kicker" for asking these questions.

... 3. Scary Feet & Bad Bedding: Unless you are actually including in the deal, either your crazy-assed, hobbit-like feet or what appears to be bedding straight from a meth-lab hotel room, then keep them out of the photos! Have mercy!

Are reflections acceptable, because some things are tough to photograph without catching part of yourself in the pic... :grin-square:

Will you take a Abe Rich cue, a bag of Ruffles and a box of Kleenex? What if its the kind with the lotion in it? Does that put it over the top?

I wouldn't say...the only. lol

But, I agree that not enough do. Or many/some people just don't know.

I would say that the average seller of a cue that does so to simply thin the herd or to be able to purchase another cue for PLAYING cannot tell what material the ferrule is made of. Count me in that group.

How many different materials are there anyways? I know of at least 8 or 9. How is the average Joe supposed to tell just by looking???

Brian's posts have a very slight (don't effect play) taper roll.

Other than that, they are mint.

I concur on several points Brian.

But the main one is that if you are going to include pictures of your hands and feet, trim those toe and finger nails.

Some of those pics are just nasty. You can tell which ones have been in the Military. Toe nails are always kept properly shorn as to not get ingrown nails.

Working summer jobs in a motorcycle shop, I always kept my nails cut short.
Its a b itch when a wrench slips and you put your fingers into an engine casing and shatter a nail.

But I'll tell you I have heard that Brian lost to a one armed, one legged, man with a bad eye..

Plus I'll cut him some slack even though the guys he hangs with at SBE are questionable.. :)

A rant about the for sale forum in the main forum. (where it belongs). Absolutely brilliant. I agree 100% . Charlie D
