Typically, I'll play until my opponent's done, but there are times when one of us will have to leave for whatever reason.
If you don't like somebody walking away with your money, you shouldn't lose it.
Last time I saw you gamble it didn't seem like Eddie was done yet but you still quit him. Is that because you never got up from your chair in the first set?

I had a feeling there was a bit more to the story. I wasn't there so its pretty much he said/he said etc....but if I get in the box and don't set it up right from the git go, it's my own damn fault...we play until you or I are bust, OR we both agree to continue another day. The players/hustlers etc that really gamble and get in the grease understand this. Have a job the next day at 8, deal with it... it might be less sleep but also a potential epic story of busting someone to your buddies...just be prepared to take an earful of comments if you use it as an excuse to stop action ESPECIALLY starting set one at 9 PM.
So the plot thickens!
So guy, on your end did you learn anything from this episode? Like maybe if you are going to try to hustle someone it is best to hustle them on there money not yours. Stall the first set if you like but win it!
I had a funny thing happen to me in one of my One Pocket sessions. I was playing this guy I had never met before. Playing for $50 and game I beat him for double digit games then I intentually lost a game to him thinking I better pump a little air in his lungs so he might think things are finally beginning to turn around for him. To my surprise the guy unscrewed saying "I was prepared to play all day and night till I won a game". Then he showed me a bankroll that would shake the Vatican. Ouch!
No one has said your opponent didn't have the right to quit. I just want him to admit he went about it poorly. That is like pulling teeth with this guy. Suckers are suckers and will always remain suckers.
Tom
i was done a year ago, that was then this is now, so deal with it. want some?
Yes sir you are correct. Never again will I lose the first set unless the guy just outright beats me down. But it's all good, I mean it was only $50. I was going to spend that sometime that night regardless. This guy is just trying to make me look like a bum for some reason. I just wanted to set the story straight.
Just to give some of you an idea where some of us are coming from....we view quitting after one set about the same as playing poker, winning the first hand, and quitting.
Now, if that still doesn't make any sense to you, I don't have a clue how to help you understand it.

You pollute the board with your everyone is an idiot threads, everyone is a non gambler.
Oh, and yes, I want some.
Just to see where people stand, what do you do when the set goes hill/hill?
A) Whack it and split table time
B) Play out the set to decide a winner.
C) Whack that set and double the bet for the next set
If you answer is C you are the kind of player I want to match up with.
I played a guy once who wanted to quit a $100 race to 7 at 6-6, my break. I politely said no and ran them out for the cash. He wouldn't play another set even with a bigger spot, he had the 8 ball and I was willing to play him 7 games to 6 with him getting the called 8. He couldn't get beyond thinking he could lose $200. If he kept playing he may have left winner. Quitting just ensured that he would lose.
Who is this "us" , of which you speak?
1. ...no all due respect ...think about it. say we play a $500 set, and.. you beat me 11-7 ...Why in the world wouldnt you take the free shot at $1000?...
2. ...But always play a guy you just beat, its a free shot at double the cash, and the gamblers ethic...
2. So how come you aren't nitty if you win one/ lose one and then pull up?
thats a great question, it is a nit move, but you dont get labeled as bad action, so its the lesser of 2 evils. I think everyone has been called a nit more than a few times, and that fades away. being labeled as "Bad Action" that can stick.
of course i'm talking about another era when a persons reputation really mattered and you had to have a good action reputation to stay in action, like the GAL in the action room here. When you dont have any income but what you could scrape up at the pool room, you cared about your reputation and protected it. being called a nit now and then comes with the turf.
