Question about the Q-Skill Rating rules

I tried this out and really like it.

But I have a rules question: Can you use carom and combo shots on the last five balls? The rules say "If you do pocket ten balls, then the last five balls must be shot in rotation (in numerical order starting with the lowest number ball)." It's not as explicit as 9- or 10-ball rules where they say you just need to contact the lowest number ball first.

When I played it this morning I assumed I could carom/combo during the last five balls, but when I read the rules more closely, I began to doubt it.

What say you?

I sure as hell do like if the 10ball is being blocked by the 13ball as long as I'm hitting the 10ball first I still hit it in a rotational order so why not.

I have a feeling the original intent was that the balls have to be made in order not just struck in order, but it seems to me that if you're playing a strategic combo or carom shot and assuming the extra risk of playing those shots why shouldn't it count?

And that's the reason why I do that sometimes it's the only to run out the last five. I'm not trying to do it as a bangers perspective but like I said sometimes there no other way to run except to play a carom of combo.

Not saying I agree, but I think the other side of the argument is that more time should be taken to plan out the last 5 balls. I know that's what often holds me back from higher scores.

Yes I agree, In fact I really start to take my time when I have seven balls left and if the conditions are right Ill start the rotation part with seven ball left. I have been playing two sets of Fargo three or four times a week since feb and it really slowed my pace down for the better. It's really got me focused all the way thru.

It's been a while since a broke a 100 but. The errors I makes and other adjustments are being understanded in ways I was never able to understand before. For instance I would never be able to run more than two balls jumping into a match right after walking in a poolhall/bar.

Now I'm not having that issue anymore the reason for that is the way I am playing Fargo I break I leave the CB where it lies and ill try to run the balls by group like solids or stripes till I get into a jam then I shoot a different group or even the eight ball to get out that jam.

I know Fargo says BIH anywhere on the table after the break but for me it's more of a challenge it makes me feel good that I was able to break out a cluster without breaking stride. I suspect this way is underrating me. I also play two sets of the ten ball rating system right after Fargo and and the scores from both games point to the same give or take 3 balls.

Bingo! That's what got me wondering about how to interpret the rules.

"Hmmm, why did I leave those as the last five balls? Well, because they were the most difficult...and need combos or caroms just to have a chance."

I think I'll try to use the "strict" rules: no combos or caroms. That will make me think a lot more about which five balls to leave (if I get that far :D) Of course, I reserve the right to change based on situational awareness.

Well sometimes you can't control camrons and combo many times I started with a wide open but when a cluster says hey how you doing and just shows up out of thin air.

You would think it should be easy to smash the rack and run the balls randomly and the last five in order. Fargo sure is not easy as it looks there are one or two racks where I get three points it just keeps me so humble.

Then you should be addressing those problems earlier in the rack.

I could agree with playing either way, but prefer to make it as difficult as I can. Personally, although it's 10.5 straight rotation, I play no combos/caroms. In the rotation phase the lowest numbered ball on the table must be contacted and pocketed.

That's part of the point of the rating system. When you do start controlling those things your rating goes up.

i pretend the last 5 balls were like if playing 9 ball
it you strike the lowest number ball and call the carom or combo the shot counts and you keep shooting

Funny, until I read this thread I never even considered caroms or combinations on the last 5. Must be the straight pool player in me.:scratchhead:
