One pocket bar box

I've been reading a lot of threads lately laughing at the idea of one pocket on a bar table.

It's a fun game, and requires a lot of strategy.

Any of you who read the pool books or webpages of old timers, you will read about how one pocket on a bar table was a normal game for a long long time.

It comes out how popular it is in Rod's page.

Anyone who thinks it's a joke is mislead, the players you look at as the best in the world have probably played it and gambled real good at it.

I would suggest playing the two long end pockets, same side. Rack in the middle

Rod and I played a lot of 400.00 a game one pocket on the bar table with the big cue ball in the 1960's

That's like 4000.00 a game today.

If you don't think it is a good game on the bar table, try it. You will be very surprised.

Thank you Bill.

It is a GREAT game, fast paced, lots of strategy, and Bill you were one of the people mentioned.

People think it's fake, but it was a booming game and it was bet accordingly.

I watched Steve Cook play a lot of bar table one pocket. He was almost unbeatable. I remember him using a side rail kick break shot that sunk into the rack. This was with the big cueball by the way.

I'd love to have a few of the one pocket guys see how their game translates to the bar box.

We were all curious how the 10ft would work, lets see how the 7ft works.

it could be a real interesting game if you get a old Valley Cougar that aint level and all the balls roll towards one side. I might need that side to win.

Actually I think it might be better on the 7' box than the 10', lot more "Rearrange the furniture" shots I'd imagine.

Another interesting thought is play with 10 balls, less traffic, frist guy to pocket 6 wins.

carnaval game but fun to talk about.

Not bad Fatboy but I would rather play with nine balls as opposed to ten. Break the balls with a two rail kick into the back of the stack. Now that is a fast game! With a little fine tuning the corner ball can be made most of the time.

Tighten those bar boxes up and lets get to rumble playing 1 hole and 14.1 (or 9.1 ). YEEEE Haaa. Johnnyt

Mark Tadd used to play that on the 9' box. I mite start playing that game, the break sets up a "Small up table game", say small cause there is only 9 balls going up. good practice for full rack-especially uptable games and end game moves. thanks for reminding me. i had forgot about that.

best:thumbup:

I play one-pocket on a bar box all the time and I love it!!! One pocket is such a great game! Playing it on the bar box makes an even more intense game because of all the traffic you run into. Not to mention some of the "finer nuances" of bar tables (leans, cushions, and felt). Whenever we're lucky enough to get the tables unlocked and nobody's around to bother us, we play one pocket!

Of course I enjoy playing on a 9 footer too and I do acknowledge that it is a slightly different game on a bar box. Either way One-Pocket is a wonderful game of skill and strategy :ok:

Fast Paced? (I learned this from JoeyA, but I can't get the color right). :)

I hung around with Steve when he was in the Tampa, FL area and I never saw Steve get beat playing 1 pocket on a BB. He gave up some huge spots too. He played all games top speed on any size table. He was one of the best hustlers I ever saw in my 60 years around pool. Guys would come out of the walls to play him. IMO Steve never got the credit he deserved as one of the best all around players. RIP Steve. Johnnyt

I don't agree that Steve Cook never got the recognition he deserved. His game was well known amongst all the top players as well as those who followed the pros.
Maybe you are talking about the general population? Steve played all the games top notch.

My best memory of Steve Cook is when he would take time to play a few racks with me, (A young enthusiastic beginner) and never charge me. A class act in my book...

bb one hole

I play it all the time. there is a good break to the game I was taught by Shane McMinn. Also taking fouls is huge. It is so much easier to make balls that taking fouls doesn't hurt as much. I hardly ever run more than 3-4 on a 9ft but a bb I can get out if left open. Also one move almost eliminated is just throwing the cue ball up table against a player that plays as bad as I do. On a valley one thing that sucks is you can't get balls out of the pocket. way to big of pockets.

Can you draw on here how you rack your one pocket?

On the spot, or some other way?
